I'm really starting to think, for the most part, this is the case.
I know it's not always the case, and there are some exceptions, so don't go all "well no cause people loved soandso after they left the POV-" cause I know, some don't apply to this.
I'm just saying generally, once we lose the POV of a character, people's opinion on that character generally declines. Why? Cause we can no longer see their reasoning. One of the only reasons some people tolerate Needletail right now is because of the traumatic experience she had as a kit. But how do we know of that experience? Her POV. If we hadn't had that- most likely a load more people would hate her- or hate her more.
Seeing things through a character's eyes really affects people's opinions on characters. If we're just looking at what characters are doing, we have to just assume and guess- and most of those assumptions are extreme- either the worst, or the best. If we see what's going on through the character's eyes- our assumptions are a lot more accurate and moderate. Things make at least a bit more sense when we have a POV.
After all, what happened when we lost Firestar's POV? And Bramblestar's? And Squirrelflight's? Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, ect.
Did they really change, or do we just know less? Just words to chew on.

Well every character that had a p.o.v. that I liked I still like. Every cat I disliked (Squirrel flight, Hollyleaf,Ivypool) I still dislike.
But I'm a minority most of the time so that doesn't surprise me.

I definitely agree here.

I agree.
Generally we also see less of the character so our liking for them can wear off and be replaced by the characters we see more of. For example, I really liked Sandstorm in the first series but I've found as the books went on I kind of didn't care as much but if I went back and read the OS again, I'd find myself still liking her as much as I did when I first read the OS. If you get what I mean.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed this, and this seems to be especially true for Jayfeather. Of course, how another character perceives them is effective as well. This is why I always try to see the PoV of that character even when we don't have it since most of the time (in this series at least) there's often more to the character than just what's on the surface. As they say, there are two sides to every story. In this case, it's literally.
