For those of you who answered "What is it", check out this link HERE. It'll explain it a lot better than I could. It's super cute! Has anybody else been playing this amazing game lately? it's so cute and so fun. I named my cat Peachflower. Home is Obsidian Clan. I'm in fall year 2. Beaten the first mine (100 levels), purified 2 temples. Married Zephyr and have Scorchtail, Heatherheart, Deerbrush, and Moonshadow for kits <3 It truly makes my heart happy

I’ve purified three temples so far! And I’ve only gotten to 50/100 for the first mine. I haven’t married anyone yet and working on getting everyone’s friendship to max!

Got all the achievements! It’s fun if you enjoy playing as a cat or are a diehard Cattails stan.

I think I'm still missing a prey and some predators 🤔
But you should definitely pick it back up. It's so much improvement on the original!

I was a Kickstarter backer, so I got to play the game early and completed it and earned all the achievements before launch. Keep an eye out for random cats from your colony named Alarra, ‘cause that’s me! (Would have chosen Dawnwing, but they specified that the names cannot be “two-part” names like that so I assume they were trying to avoid potential issues with warrior names.) I wanted my game to be Warriors-ish, but not completely, so my character is Dawn, queen of the Wildwood Clan, and my mate is Talon. Big protective tough guy with a bit of a soft side Our four children are Squirrel (orange coloring and green eyes with lighter paws reminded me of Squirrelflight, and her excitable personality fits too), Whisper (her pale whitish coloring made me think of a ghost or mist), Flicker (has kind of a flamepoint appearance), and Rose (a pretty calico with orange ears).

Very nice. I was a backer too, but got it on my switch so still had a delay in joining in :3
And that makes sense. I gave mine their "warrior" names in case I want able to change them later. But they're - kit in my mind. Lol
I tried not to repeat patterns/coloration for mine. But where are still two of them with one purple eye and one pink and that is pretty cool~

Finally, second mine complete!
I have yet to beat the boss because I wanted to gather up so many goldenseal’s until winter. So I’ve just been mining. (Would’ve gotten the second mine completed sooner but someone (Jag) kept dying.)
Glimmer is my first level ten. Jag will likely be my second as I want to potentially get to level 25 of the third mine before the end of Autumn. Coco will be with me for when I fight the final boss after completing the fourth temple in Winter.

ahaha. i'm befriending Jag now to drag him into the mines with me xD
i was smitten as soon as i met Zephyr so i married him before i'd even finished the temples. lol. i think i purified 1 temple before marrying him. and i def had kits before i finished the game.
since you can't level beyond the initial friendship (i believe, according to the internet) after you're married, i've been sticking to the normal 4 stars. i've got it with Talon and Krampy. I think Alabastor as well? i'd have to double check.
but i'm currently trying to befriend Umbra and he hasn't like the catnip or the mouse i brought him. kind of wondering if it'd be morbid to give him the voidmarrow xD

I liked Jag for mines, though I personally prefer Glimmer for harder levels.
Try giving Umbra trout; they love trout, for some reason. (Oh, and yeah, they hate Voidmarrow.)

I definitely prefer Glimmer for the mines, not having to worry about poison while fighting rats or the poison traps is nice.) Once Jag is level 10, I think I’ll bring in Krampy since he’s also immune to poison. (And I’ll get free heals which is hard to come by as I never bring golden seals down there.)

Had the chance to log in while on lunch break. I'm at 4* with- Alabaster Coco Ember Jag Krampy Spark Talon
Zephyr I'm at 4 rings xD
Tbh, I don't put a whole lot of effort into all of them? Lol. I talk to who I see, take quests when I can. The only time I rly seek out a cat is to give them smth on their birthday:3

I got everyone to four stars. And I have one ring with Phantom. I may have jumped the gun too quickly because I have done barely anything with the den. How do you get extra areas in the den? I saw an adding floor but that’s based on mews and I’m a bit poor in that department. Or does the married cat still sleep in their separate den?
I also defeated the Wildwoods Guardian! It is going to be a while to get the new cat though. (Going to need to do some more mining with Jag and fight a lot of Void cats.)

I think it is mews to expand. The cat you marry does move in with you! It's very sweet. I just wish I could put his den away. It takes up space xD
Since I hoarded so much stuff, I think the only thing I needed to go out and find for Umbra were the queen of the night plants :3

I remember seeing an assign bed command after the wedding.

yes. it's big enough :3 i also just renovated my den to give all of my kits their own room. i'm not very good at design, but at least they have their own spaces now also made a sort of master suite kind feel in the back

I've gotten the game.... and I'm baffled that it has "overwhelmingly positive" reviews when the first impressions are utter dogshit here and I am nearing the 2 hour window steam allows refunds for and wondering if it's worth continuing to play or going to be more of the same. Someone please inform me if there is anything with actual substance beyond the incredibly weak start.
To outline (and copy what I told my friend):
The opening plot is actually fantastic. It lays out challenge for your main character and seems to put you in a position of having ability and a strife to overcome.... to immediately solve that problem for you in the tutorial. Why are we supposed to settle here? Why are we putting trust in a spirit that is putting us in an obvious danger? Every cat just... goes with this apparently despite being threatened, there is no stakes of... i dunno, having to keep cats happy and actually making talking to them and gifting them necessary so they don't leave or something. Talking to them so far isn't really even interesting because they don't say that many different things beyond initial dialogue. Also how did cats build entire brick and completely humanly furnished structures in one day? Don't know! Don't pay attention to it lol!
I mean I can suspend some level of disbelief but this is completely immersion-breaking. In the other game they made it feel like the only manmade structures around were simply abandoned by humans there, and any other humanmade items were random odds and ends or trash they found scattered. That makes sense.
Or how do Ember and Krampy have that much crap? How did they carry all of that from the tiny camp we saw briefly here. It would make more sense to have dens and shops be upgradeable over time and THATS what the Guardian has you collect for, rather than unlocking cats. Which is another annoyance... we just summon cats immediately to the town rather than go find them even though by the guardians own words theyre solitary about the world, so why dont we go actually FIND them and convince them to join? Again, would make better use of the friendmaking system and give me a reason to go explore every part of the map.
Its such a divorce from the things I was enjoying about og cattails and feels like it somehow made everything definitely worse except plot they stole from The New Prophecy.
Another gripe... wheres the art direction here? There are a ton of world objects that look fine on their own in a vacuum but are horribly mismatched pixel art styles in the game, somehow it feels as though certain trees and plans just aren't natural in the environment. I understand why it was a little odd here and there for the original cattails since it was birthed from untold tales that just started off as forum fan game with premade assets but the sequel that people are paying for to be good should certainly have SOME form of unification here to make it visually cohesive.

imagine being the cat that gets randomly summoned because some random ass stranger drops 3 mice and a bird in front of a weird statue and you get teleported into a temple in front of a giant ghost lion, that would terrify me i'd be OUT of there lmfao.

valid thoughts i didn't complete the OG cattails. i can't recall why, but i did enjoy this one. i personally have been trying to avoid the manmade furniture in my den, but some stuff i tossed in there to fill the rooms ^^"

I wish there was a way to remove manmade furniture from all dens though.
I did figure out how to change the outside of my den to stop looking like a house though. I only wish I could also get rid of the mailbox. Cats can't write. >.<
I just really liked being able to be a PART of the old colonies and feel like i was contributing to them in a clanlike way more than i liked the leading and basebuilding of the og game, in almost all of my save files i just stay in the normal 3 colonies and ignore being a leader. I only did it in 1 because I wanted the steam achievements. So I guess I just don't like being forced to do it here.
I've decided to keep the game and just give it another go later today, maybe I'll feel differently if I can just make myself ignore the fact that it's a sequel and think of it more like how pokemon mystery dungeon works because it does sort of have a few of those elements? It's just way more believable for a pokemon to be able to craft stuff than a literal cat though.

I will admit that Cattail’s plots make little to no sense in both games; I was there for the OG’s launch day. I mean, there’s some lore, but the game’s not super heavily reliant on it, despite you having a few quests here and there (collect this item, acquire that). I guess the real joy for me was having a cat version of Stardew Valley, which I was never a huge fan of. In my opinion, the most joy in Cattails is found from stalking your prey, jumping into a random battle, exploring some caves. Sometimes the immersion is broken, I agree. But the areas where the game is lacking or seem a little sus, I can look over. It’s made by a very small indie team, so I end up looking at those shortcomings in a warming light. I think it’s a sweet little game overall.

i had a lot of fun playing so it made it easy to forget there was, like, manmade furniture ^^" and while i agree befriending new cats out in the wild rather than summoning them would have been more... realistic? and/or enjoyable (depending on the person. lol), it was still a nice game i will say tho: i wish the next-gen/portal option would let you keep other couples' kits and romance them. i really wanted my one kit to get together with Jack, they would've made a cute couple. could've been a great way to incorporate the revived forest guardian (if that's the path you took).
i could understand not going farther than that due to limitations and branching stories and the like, but if you're going to offer the opp to play as one of your kits i'd hoped we could keep other kits too..

It's crazy to look back and see that I only spent less than 60 hours to 100% the game. I don't recall spending so little time on it. I enjoyed the memories I made though. I remember marrying Coco, divorcing her because I thought a mechanic needed me to be single, and then re-marrying her. I felt so bad the whole time.
