Apparently there's going to be a new Ivypool SE, which'll probably be pretty decent, but what I'm more concerned about is that there are rumors of Bristlefrost returning.
What?
Hold on. I remember finishing ALitM and just staring at the pages in shock because I could not believe that the Erins had done the impossible. They'd somehow managed to make me feel sad(something only watching Bridge to Terabithia and looking at my grades does), but not only that, they'd grown a pair and permakilled a protagonist.
Keep in mind that this is the first time a protagonist has been permanently killed in their own arc. Not banished to rot in StarClan, no. They are gone, forever. Atoms scattered to Silverpelt.
I remember sitting there and thinking, that, Bristlefrost, this character we'd met and grown to not only like but love over the course of six books- was now gone. For a whole week after that, that was the only thing on my mind. Honestly, if you were to ask me, Bristlefrost's death is the most influential and important death in the series. Not Firestar, or Yellowfang, or anyone else. Her.
Bringing her back would negate all of that. Something I see Briss fans fail to acknowledge is that, although she is gone, her legacy is not. And it never will be gone. It would be a terrible idea to bring her back.
Bristlefrost, martyr of the clans, can and should rest in peace.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure speculation has technically been going on since ALitM ended, but has only reignited to such an extent when Ivypool's Heart was first (unofficially) announced months ago. Either way, I don't like it. Even if there manages to be a reasonable explanation for it, Bristlefrost coming back would really make things look cheap.

There have been multiple threads about this theory on WG in the past few months although speculation was going on ever since she died in ALitM, I'm pretty sure. Though that might've been because some people simply didn't want her to be gone forever, which I can totally understand.
Personally, I think it would take away from the utter tragedy and impact of her sacrifice if they just brought Bristlefrost back like that.
BGA, who really likes RootBristle and Bristlefrost, was not a fan of her death either and made at least one video on this theory a little while back though I don't know if she's thus the one to start or at the very least majorly supported this rumor to become a popular topic of discussion in the fandom overall.
Either way, I doubt Bristlefrost will return. Love my girl but she's gone and is instead having a weird sitcom going on with the rest of the cats who died twice. Better still watch out for Ashfur, bestie!

I’m really scared if they brought her back she’d only become new background mom or just get killed again like Hollyleaf. Idk what else they could really do that’d be meaningful with her tbh.

my initial thoughts were conflicted about Bristlefrost. While my earlier thread speculated on the possibility, it's become clearer that the chances of her returning are slim or close to nothing than I initially anticipated.
Anyway from what I see, her character's journey has concluded without the prospect of her return.

first, the se should focus on ivypool, especially with everything that's going on with her right now
and second, as much as I like bristlefrost, bringing her back would only ruin the beauty and pain of her sacrifice. the beauty of it is how she gave up her own happiness to save the clans

Honestly if the authors make the terrible decision to bring Briss back, they should do it in a way that makes her sacrifice even more poignant. Maybe throughout her SE, Ivypool could hallucinate that Bristlefrost was "back" but it's just her imagination and at the end she learns to accept she's gone. Or it could be an Orpheus type situation, where Ivypool is able to reunite with Bristlefrost, but when she tries to get her to return with her back to the clans she cannot.

-Cats of the Park (Thunder)
-Slash (RH)
-The forest territories (GV, OC, Thunder)
-The Tribe (Tawnypelt's Clan, Graystripe's Vow)
-The DF (TBC)
-ShadowClan falling apart without a leader again (AVOS)
-Another Clan falling apart without a proper leader (ASC)
-Another sign faked to get a true leader (ASC)
-Medicine cat finds out signs were fake and doesn't have a true connection with StarClan (ASC)
-Said medicine cat gets mauled by the same cat out to get them (ASC)
-Cross-Clan forbidden relationship
-Scheming brown tabby tom ready to kill for leadership
All plot lines that we thought were finished eventually ended up showing up again. So I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened with Bristlefrost. Recycling already used story lines is the only thing keeping this series alive that the editing team is using.

This is a really good point (but with the Sisters, I'm pretty sure it was confirmed shortly after Squirrelflight's Hope that they would be coming back at some point). I honestly hope they don't bring her back but I can see them doing it. But if they bring her back at all, I think it would be as a spirit, not a physical form. |
