For some reason, when I first read that part in the series, it was in Jayfeather’s pov. I remember it being Jay’s pov and he was arguing with Rock, trying to save Flametail but then agreed with Rock and let him go. Now when I read the books, it’s in Flametail’s pov. Did they change it or is this a Mandela effect type thing or something?? Confusion. But yeah I preferred the Jay pov instead of Flame cuz I found that part boring.

I loved Flametails POV and it was so exciting at the time to have a Shadowclan POV.
Things I liked: -seeing shadowclan in a new light for the first time -flametails relationships with everyone including littlecloud toadstep blackstar etc. A lot more but writing on my phone is so annoying so I'm gonna stop. But I loved it. It's one of my favorite parts in the whole series (everyone boos)

I didn’t like his POV too much.

Annoying and unnecessary in hindsight.
Like yeah, him getting the first main series ShadowClan PoV was new and exciting at the time. But he literally only got 5 chapters in Night Whispers and was a bratty, little hypocrite almost the entire arc with his "I'm so glad to not be related to a murderer!" to Lionblaze in that book (when he's literally the grandson of Tigerstar I) and him wanting Jayfeather to feel the same way he did when he drowned when Jayfeather got stuck in the mud during The Last Hope even though Jayfeather had tried to save him but only stopped when Rock told him to.

It was okay. I just liked seeing a non-ThunderClan POV.

Useless and dull. He amounts to nothing except being a red herring before dying and then used as a cudgel by his sister to whack Thunderclan with.

It was nice to see a ShadowClan POV, but he didn’t really do much except die.

I greatly enjoyed the ShadowClan POV, but Flametail opening his role in the book by acting like a little shit soured my opinion on him.
Though really, the entirety of ShadowClan decrying Lionblaze as a murderer really rubbed me the wrong way. They were acting like he was slaughtering old grannies in their sleep. He threw off - didn't even really attack, just threw off - an active, willing participant in a battle that was in the middle of killing his leader. I'm no Lionblaze fan, but it's slanderous as shit towards him, and actually pretty ****ing insulting towards Russetfur to have her agency take away like that and treated like a mere victim when she was literally stomping a Clan leader who was younger than her, more fit than her, and had more lives to blow than her.
But back to Flametail... he's pretty eh as a character, but the dive into ShadowClan from a native's POV was pretty enjoyable. Helps that Blackstar is one of my favorite leaders and seeing him from the POV of a character he likes and respects and won't treat with suspicion was enjoyable.

But I vividly remember reading Jay’s POV on Flame’s death…like he witnessed the event happen and he dove in to rescue him. I remember him thinking “Gotcha!” When he grabs hold of Flametail and tries to bring him up. I remember reading his own thoughts, his conversation with rock: “Let him go, it is his time but not yours” “No! I will not let him go! I must save him!” “It’s his destiny to die. Not yours. Let him go”. I remember reading this very vividly, and then when Jayfeather lets go of Flametail, he swims up and cats from his own clan help him out. He’s then guided back to the hollow, his fur soaking wet. I vividly remember this from 6th grade, as that’s when I started reading this series. So either it’s Mandela Effect or my brains messing with me cuz I do remember that happening
