Personally, I still prefer LeafSorrel as well as BrackenLeafSorrel over HawkLeaf (or Hawkpool) and I'm fully aware that MothLeaf (or Mothpool) is way more popular than the ship of Hawkfrost x Leafpool.
That being said, I still think this ship is very interesting or at the very least entertaining. Just imagine Hawkfrost being the father of the Original Three and them finding out that their dad is a Dark Forest baddie. Like damn, that's some GOOD DRAMA. I for one still would've preferred that over the mess that is CrowLeaf even though that was also full of drama (but then again, most fanon Leafpool ships are better than CrowLeaf, in my opinion).
And also, this fanon ship definitely would be rather toxic if it still followed the canon storyline of Hawkfrost being a manipulative Tigerstar clone schemer who ends up getting himself killed via the foxtrap stick by Brambleclaw. There's no doubt he'd manipulate Leafpool too in this scenario. And that's interesting and would've most likely (hopefully) been portrayed as a bad relationship that ended due to his villainy (just like with GoldenTiger and TigerSasha like father, like son).
But there is also the possibility of giving Hawkfrost a fanon redemption arc or change of heart before going down that path of darkness (sounds dramatic just like him, so it fits). So either in TNP before he decides to go all out and attempts to murder Firestar (to test Brambles). Or in OotS (so after he already died and went to the DF). Which would thus be an actual redemption arc since he would have to work hard on taking down the plans of the Dark Forest and gaining the trust of cats he hurt (Firestar, Leafpool, Mothwing, Brambleclaw and so on). I like Hawkfrost redemption stories or just AU ideas but also don't mind ones where he's even worse than in canon (as in more evil, not just wasted potential in terms of his writing).
TL;DR Here's just a few examples of this ship for those who don't want to read through my ramble. Either for those who don't understand why people ship it and want to "learn" or those who already ship it and want to see some content. Either way, enjoy (or don't lol)!

(A spoof MAP, so not serious at all but still fun)
(A PMV, kinda giving early 2010s edgy fandom vibes but only came out a few days ago, utter meme potential)

Bi Leafpool (just had to include this one because it's so true and Hawkfrost is in the line-up)
Also lmao at the caption: 'this is leafpool’s shoujo anime and we are all living in it' again, so true fr
Hawkpool vs. Mothpool (as a sidenote, this artist ships HawkLeaf ironically, and I respect that)
Original Three redesigns if Hawkfrost was their dad instead of Crowfeather (just fun to imagine)

All in all, I think for most people who ship HawkLeaf, it's moreso just a fun edgy bad boy x good girl ship that would make for some good drama. In fact, most people I've seen, ship it ironically or just don't take it too seriously while still appreciating the possibilities this ship has to offer despite coming off as cliche (which is what makes it rather charming in that aspect, I think).
