Unfortunately thats true. At the very least I can console myself with the fact that he has, by the point of TPB, faded from StarClan because surely he would have been forgotten at that point

Thunderstar's Echo
BORING BORING BORING. Waste of time tbh. Thunderstar has kits with his mate Violet Dawn. there are some dogs causing trouble for the clan and him and Lightning Tail go looking for them to get rid of them.
Honestly as BORING as this novella was Lightning Tail's death was awful and I was so sad. Goodbye to my lil gay baby.
I will die on the hill that Lightning Tail and Thunderstar should have been together. They have much better chemistry than any she cat Thunderstar has been with!!!

Shadowstar's Life
I liked Shadowstar's Life a lot more than Thunderstar's Echo. I love me a bit of murder plot. Shadowstar's character was very consistent from the arc to this book. I enjoyed that the most; she remains closed off to others and the death of her deputy and her being down to her last life pretty much from the get go is great as it raises the stakes especially compared to Thunderstar's Echo.
Much better than the previous novella

Cloudstar's journey
Finally in this novellas I felt free haha. Free from the DoTC cats. Seeing how the clans had progressed was great, and interesting that a lot of the rules and ceremonies that we are familiar with have started to become established- like border patrols and the clan Gatherings being a bit more than a gathering to just remember the dead. And of course the original founders of the Clans have become legends. Skystar was mentioned in the book but as with most things, time tends to glorify things and Skystar was set up on a bit of a pedestal which is heckin nasty.
'Skyclan cats know how to respect borders' -Cloudstar Do they?? Do they though. Your Clan's founder caused a whole lotta problems lol.
And the leader before Cloudstar, Duskstar, was responsible for the rule in the Warrior Code that says the leader's word is law. Man the Warrior Code is ancient and honestly I'm totally game for the god to change in the recent arcs.
Anyway, this is the book where we see SkyClan's downfall- which was mildly touched on in the previous Novella with Skystar mentioning that twoleg activity has become more frequent in their territory, but here in Cloudstar's Journey we see the full effects of it. Cloudstar's struggle with wanting to keep his clan safe is covered so well, and the fact that his mate is pregnant with kits raises the stakes for him. Not to mention the fact that the previous leader's decision to give some of their territory over to ThunderClan probably also contributed to their downfall- it would have happened eventually but tbh that extra strip of land probably would have been good. SkyClan does try to take it back but at that point they are too starved to actually win a battle and so they lose. Speaking of kits, I honestly feel like there's been a lot of she cats being pregnant and then suddenly wailing 'the kits are coming!" Since about book three of DotC? Was a bit annoyed by that but Cloudstar was a good supportive mate and stayed by her side through it.
Too bad though that they have to leave their camp because their territory has been so developed by twolegs that they are about to have their camp destroyed. The entire Clan rocks up to the gathering and as we know, the other cats decide not to help SkyClan and kick them out. This was quite a stark comparison as here I think it becomes apparent the shift from the bonds between the cats in DotC to the rivalries and clear borders of the Clans towards even Tallstar's revenge.
Cloudstar has to leave with his clan but the TunderClan medicine cat, seeing how young Cloudstar's kits are, offers a place for them and their mother in ThunderClan. They stay, and the rest of SkyClan leaves the forest.
This is so ironic to me as through out the previous books we see how Skystar fights so hard for his cats to be protected and that he is the one that establishes borders but the fact that this comes full circle to become the detriment of the clan he founded is absolutely hilarious to me. I have no issues with SkyClan itself, in fact I feel for the cats that had to leave the forest, but it does feel like retribution for Skystar's cretinism and sheer ugliness in previous books.

Mapleshade's Vengence
I LOVED THIS NOVELLA. MAPLESHADE IS ONE OF MY FAVS NOW. Her commitment to her cause is *chefs kiss* and see her mental decline was great, but sad. Also Mapleshade is such a sick name real mad I didn't think of it!
Seeing how much she loved her kits, to the point that she lied by omssion in the hopes of protecting them, but still loving the RiverClan father Appledusk is just amazing. Her story is a stark reminder of how harsh the Clans used to be; being kicked out of ThunderClan for her half clan kits, attempting to go to RiverClan thinking Appledusk would help her, but her attempt resulting in the death of her kits is heartbreaking.
Not to add on to that but basically immediately after her children dying, being taken to the RiverClan camp where the cat she loved disowns her to his leader, and she finds out that he has a mate in RiverClan as well....... bro I would have gone off the rails too. Poor, poor, Mapleshade. To have so many bad things happen to you one after the other is truly terrible and I just wanted to hug the poor thing!
She winds up at the twoleg barn where a barn cat whose name I cannot remember feeds her. It is here that she hatches her plan to take the lives of the cats who hurt her, and she starts to hear the voices of her kits talking to her.
So she takes the life of the Tunderclan medicine cat, Ravenwing, who outed her to Thunderclan. Afterwards, only two of her kits 'appear' to her and so she thinks that she has avenged one of her kits and is doing the right thing.
Next she targets Frecklewish, who initially supported her through her pregnancy but after finding out the truth about Mapleshade's kits, she followed them to the RiverClan border and watched Mapleshade's kits drown and made no attempt to help (which Mapleshade found out about and is why she targeted her). Mapleshade kills her by openeing the rock blocking an adder's nest, and a snake bites Frecklewish in the eyes or something idk all I do know is it was cool but Mapleshade almost got caught. The last of her kits appears to her and she only hears one of her kit's voices. The second kit has been avenged and Mapleshade is ready for her next target; Appledusk.
She does manage to kill Appledusk, but his RiverClan mate appears as he is dying, and his apprentice attacks her from behind and fatally wounds her with a neck bite. I think here Mapleshade obviously wants to kill the RiverClan mate but can't because she is.... dying. But the RiverClan she cat spitefully tells Mapleshade how Appledusk will live on through her kits, but Mapleshade staggers off.
She manages to make it back to the barn I think- or at least the barn cat finds her. He tries to stop the bleeding but knows it's futile so he lays down next to her, offering to be with her in her final moments. Mapleshade declines (quite rudely so, but fair enough) And he comments that it didn't have to be that way, but obliges and leaves her.
Mapleshade wakes up in the Dark Forest, alone and confused. A voice from the bushes quickly hisses at her that this isn't StarClan, and Mapleshade remembers what the RiverClan she cat said to her before she died. Seeing as she isn't going to have peace in StarClan, Mapleshade vows that her quest for vengeance will never cease, and she will make the lives of Appledusk's descendants miserable.

Cloudstar's journeyAnd the leader before Cloudstar, Duskstar, was responsible for the rule in the Warrior Code that says the leader's word is law. Man the Warrior Code is ancient and honestly I'm totally game for the god to change in the recent arcs. I just want to point out that the leader before Cloudstar was actually named Flystar. Darkstar (his name in COTC) is just a former SkC leader who gave Cloudstar a life.
