What are your opinions on Riverstar's Home? I actually really enjoyed it. It's better then recent Super Editions imo.

Having to go on what I've heard: Dislike but leaning netural. It sounds better than Leopard's (Lack of) Honor and Onestar's Confession, but half the book being a rehash of DotC is pretty lame. Not to mention I still think it's weird that Riverstar's mate ended up having extremely similar story beats to Night(star). It feels like lazy writing.
Note that it's not lazy that he didn't get with Night. It's lazy that the two character have similar story aspects.

It was alright. Wasn’t bad, wasn’t particularly good either. I understand that giving him a backstory was necessary due to him being a nothing character until then. But wish they would have been more concise and left more room to showcase his time as leadership, and giving more insight into ancient settler Riverclan. Not spending 2/3rds of the book building up his character through mostly rehashed material. And then when he’s finally made leader, he’s almost immediately whisked off to help the Cats of the Park. And then there’s more time spent on the journey to get to them, than it takes for Riverstar to neutralize the threat once he gets there. Then afterwards he camps out waiting for the weather to improve, and so that his and Finch’s romance can develop. And once he finally returns to Riverclan, there really isn’t much space left to delve into Riverclan’s earlier culture all that much. And with what little is left of course is used on making Skystar an antagonizer yet again(no surprise) and having him subsequently knocked down several pegs yet again. Best highlights would be the some of the friendships. Riverstar’s earliest days in the first couple chapters, his Leader ceremony. And the new confirmations to family trees, and information tidbits on certain characters, and other such things that’d appeal to lore enthusiasts. But the overall story was pretty meh, and was certainly a downgrade from Onestar’s Confession imho.

I am only on chapter one, so harsh take incoming that may change later. It’s really boring so far. I’m not really surprised though since I expected a Riverstar story would be boring when it was an option to pick from alongside two far more established and interesting characters in a poll.
Edit: I don’t really remember this in dotc but if it wasn’t, I immediately disliked that they gave Riverstar a love interest in this. I thought he didn’t have any interest in taking a mate in dotc ever, and that was one the few things that made him unique and interesting imo.

I’m liking it so far. I really enjoyed Onestar’s Confession and Leopardstar’s Honor though and I know a lot of people complained about them but I really enjoyed them. The only super editions I didn’t care for were Tigerheart’s Shadow due to the Rippletail/Slatefur fiasco and Squirrelflight’s Hope due to everyone being out of character like they were in The Raging Storm which in my opinion was the worst Warrior Cats book ever written and made AVOS one of the weakest arcs.

Neutral, but I definitely would've liked it alot more if it got revealed that Riverstar had been doing things behind the scenes while DotC was happening so it wouldn't have been a complete rehash or if it had actually taken place after MFV.

Neutral leaning on like. I am not done yet, but so far the first part that is DOTC but in Riverstar’s pov is my favorite. They had so many opportunities to make it good, but I think they wrote themselves into a corner. Seeing how far RiverClan becomes from what River Ripple originally wanted it to be is depressing, but they also needed to defend the clan’s crappy ways and change his POV. The meditation / cats coming and going as they want but still being a close knit group is nice. His peace ideology and feeling like he never quite fits in anywhere because his mindset is different was relatable to me, and I enjoyed that a lot.
Other than that, I feel like they ruined the mystery to him and didn’t do more with it like they could have. How he knows so many things is either retconned or given weak excuses. I think I would have liked if the river “spoke” to him the way the earth does to Rootspring, but he can sense the uneasiness about it. (I guess kind of like in WOF how Sundew’s leafspeak works). It could have set up something interesting and how meditation can bring all cats more in tune to their environment and understand it instead of just a magical power like Rootspring. At first I was disappointed him and Night didn’t become mates, but I ended up liking the platonic relationship between them too. We don’t get platonic love outside of familial bonds in warriors, so it was good. Finch being a rewrite of Night is boring, and her whole personality is boring. Their relationship felt very rushed. I would have preferred if she was either a cat who lived in the forest already, or someone he’d known from the Park before it was destroyed (but did not love like he did Flutter. Rip flutter.)
I dunno. I enjoy Riverstar, but he deserved a better second half of the book and it feels like this could have been a novella. Skystar is as awful and annoying as always, still think he belongs in kitty hell.

I just finished it, and I actually enjoyed it a lot. Many people don't like Finch, but I like her a lot. I also like how the cats in early RiverClan all had personalities.
Drizzle was pretty cool too, and I like Arc a lot as well. Overall pretty good book to me.

Honestly idc if this book was mostly recap and filler. I don't know the last time I really enjoyed reading a super edition. It was just mostly cute or funny shenanigans and Riverstar being just a nice, sometimes dumb, sometimes wise, sometimes extremely goofy guy. I like slice of life so I didn't mind the lowish stakes. I actually didn't mind the RiverFinch stuff; I actually thought Finch had an established personality to be honest. I love the scene where Riverstar comes back to life after Snail kills him and everyone starts freaking out. I really like Night, Drizzle and Arc now, and more Dappled Pelt is always good. The humor was there and I was all for it. There wasn't much Rainswept Flower but we had Tall Shadow mourning her and her giving Riverstar a life and any crumb will sustain me a little. I love Riverstar and Night's friendship and like that they were just friends without becoming mates. I also don't know how they managed to make Riverstar so gay for Gray Wing when he had two female love interests but I'm not complaining. Love beating up Skystar and the ever so slight Moth Flight shade at one point. Also that Dust Muzzle and Spotted Fur are just always seen together in like every book they're in, and how Dew and Drizzle are mostly seen together; I love more friendships.
Maybe it was disappointing for the book to have not too much new to offer. I do kinda wish they kept Riverstar single and without kits, or at least elaborated a bit more on post-Shadowstar's Life era (I just want to see Ravenstar). But even if it wasn't the best book they've made, I thouroughly enjoyed it.

Listen, he doesn't get with Gray Wing but I have never shipped the two more than I did reading this book. give me one good river x gray quote/moment from this book, and i'll consider it I've bookmarked 5 lol, but I'll give 2. River Ripple finding out Gray Wing died: 'Was the mountain tom sick again? Really sick? He waited for the familiar tug that always drew him toward the gray tom in his darkest moments. But he felt nothing. He looked toward the moor. Snowcapped and glistening, it looked bleaker than ever, and River Ripple felt its emptiness as though a hole had opened beneath his paws. His heart dropped like a stone in his paws. "Is he dead?" Riverstar's nine lives ceremony: He shifted his paws self-consciously, his heart quickening as he saw Gray Wing. His throat tightened. "I've missed you." "But I haven't left you." Gray Wing padded forward, his golden eyes warm, and stopped in front of him. "I'm here. I always will be." His eyes shone. "Thank you, River Ripple," he mewed. "For taking me in when I needed help and giving me a place to grieve. You are a good friend." "I-" River Ripple tried to speak, but his throat closed as emotion overwhelmed him. "You have a kind soul," Gray Wing murmured. "And I'm glad of it. The Clans need your gentleness and wisdom." River Ripple was lost for words and could only gaze back at him, hoping the gray tom knew how much his words meant. "Are you ready to recieve your nine lives?" Gray Wing asked. My nine lives! River Ripple had forgotten for a moment why he'd come. His chest tightened. He dipped his head. "Yes," he mewed huskily.
It might not be much for a hardcore shipper but I thought these were cute. But I wouldn't buy a book JUST for like 5 RiverGray scenes lol. Sorry!

I've read about nine chapters at the bookstore after work so far. Dawn of the Clans really isn't doing anything to clear itself of my accusation that it's aggressively mid. At best I take a slight bit of sadistic pleasure at River/Gray fanon getting dumped on, but that's hardly enough to make the book worth the paper it got printed on. The book overall makes me hope they choose to not revisit DotC era in the future.

This is a really bad book. I literally couldn’t finish it, which is a first for a warriors book. Waste of paper. Oh yeah, forgot to say this. Outright just dumped the book. There are some books that I just outright never read, like Leopardstar's Honor, but this is quite literally the only Warriors book that I actually started reading but couldn't be assed to finish.
