Whispersong blinked in surprise when she heard her name, standing and moving to greet her new apprentice, “I’ll be sure to pass everything I know onto you.” She murmured in her normal quiet and reserved tone, meeting Ravenpaw’s eyes before touching her nose to his.

Swiftstar turned away from the new apprentice and mentor as another cough wracked through his body. He shook his fur out, pretending nothing happened as he turned to Ashenkit. "Ashenkit, from this moment on until you earn your warrior name you'll be known as Ashenpaw. Your mentor will be Thorndash. He has much to teach you in the coming moons. Thorndash, you have shown yourself to be a loyal and dedicated moor-runner, please pass down your skills to Ashenpaw."

Ashenpaw had been quivering with excitment. Finally! An apprentice! When her name was called she stepped forward. She looked towards Thorndash, taking a step up to touch her nose to his.

Ashenpaw had been quivering with excitment. Finally! An apprentice! When her name was called she stepped forward. She looked towards Thorndash, taking a step up to touch her nose to his. Thorndash perked brightly as his name was called to mentor. He padded up to Ashenpaw, purring out. “We’ll have you running circles around the Clan in no time!” He promised. Ravenpaw nodded with a serious look at Whispersong’s quiet but honest assurance. He supposed her more reserved nature was much better than an overly energetic or excitable one when it came to training. All he wanted was to keep his father’s legacy alive… even if he would never truly know him. The anger fueled him, and he vowed to make it work. |

Swiftstar paused a moment before looking down at Beankit. “Beankit from this moment on until you earn your warrior name, you will be called Beanpaw. Your mentor will be Palegaze! He will teach you the ways of tunneling with his whole heart. Palegaze, you demonstrate the heart of a true tunneler, gentle but strong, show Beanpaw all there is to know.”

Palegaze's ears pricked up as he was called forward to mentor Beanpaw. He smiled warmly, fondly recalling how he'd watched him scrabbling in the dirt as a kitten.
He padded forward, stooping to gently touch his nose to his apprentice's. He hoped his appearance wasn't too off-putting. "I look forward to teaching you," he meowed. "Congratulations."

Palegaze chuckled warmly, beckoning Beanpaw to his side with a sweep of his tail. "If you'd like, we can go out right away after Swiftstar's adjourned the meeting. For now, you can sit here with me."

Beanpaw sat pretty close to Palegaze, to the point where their fur was touching. Beanpaw vibrated with excitement, partly hoping some of Palegaze's skills would transfer to him through touch. "That would be great! I want to get started right away. I'll dig tunnels all over WindClan's territory!"

Palegaze felt his heart squeeze a little at Beanpaw's eagerness, equally as excited as he to show him everything he knew. He allowed their fur to brush, smiling down at his new apprentice before directing his attention back to Swiftstar.

Swiftstar turned his gaze to the last apprentice, "Dreamkit, from this moment until you've earned your warrior name you will be known as Dreampaw. Your mentor will be Slushfur. Slushfur, you are known for your unending loyalty to this clan, I know you will pass on everything you know to Dreampaw."
My cats cheered, "Ravenpaw! Ashenpaw! Beanpaw! Dreampaw!"
Eclipsesky cheered half-heartedly, knowing it would be his turn next.

Palegaze lifted his voice alongside those of his Clanmates, casting a sideways glance towards Eclipsesky, feeling his light heart sinking back into his paws. Oh, Eclipse...

Cobblepaw cheered loudly for the new apprentices, while Rookpaw was alot more quiet at his side. The dark furred she-cat seemed a bit distracted, blinking tiredness out of her eyes.
Grasslight cheered warmly for the new apprentices, still saddened and amazed at just how much Ravenpaw looked like his father, her uncle. She hoped Beetleclaw was watching his kits from Starclan.

hey vixen! good to see you  hope you're doing well! ) Swiftstar waited for the crowd to finish their cheers before speaking once more. "I have one more announcement to make today. Eclipsesky has come to me and revealed that Starclan has given him a sign that it is his time to step down as medicine cat of Windclan. He has served our clan for many moons and has shown intense dedication to his role. We honor you for your service. Eclipsesky would like to learn the ways of a tunneler. He already has basic warrior training, so I will not assign him a specific mentor. I ask the senior tunnelers to aid Eclipsesky in his new endeavor. Dawnshadow has served under Eclipsesky for many moons now and shown herself to be just as skilled, she will continue to care for us in Eclipsesky's absence." Sagefoot frowned, blinking at Eclipsesky in confusion, had he broken the medicine cat law? Her eyes flickered to Silverspirit, her frown deepening. Fallowmeadow looked at Eclipsesky with pity, knowing the tom would hate the attention about to fall upon him. Wolfstep immediately turned to Yellowmoon, gossiping quietly about reasons Starclan wouldn't want Eclipsesky to be medicine at anymore. Ivyvine spoke quietly with Daisyglow, this was definitely not where he thought the rest of the meeting was going. Larkpaw turned to Juniperpaw with wide eyes, "Why would Starclan do that? Eclipsesky loves being medicine cat!" Sandfall shook his head looking crestfallen. He muttered under his breath, "Silverspirit, this better not be because of you." Eclipsesky's eyes locked with Palegaze's and then Silverspirit as the whole clan turned to look at him. He would not crumble in front of them. His tail twitched nervously as the crowd began to whisper and speak, noise echoing throughout the clearing like the loudest storm. |

“I… I have no idea!” Juniperpaw exclaimed, eyes wide with shock as she looked at the now stepping down Medicine Cat. “Can he say no, if Starclan themselves say his time is done?”
“Can he do that?” Antbite whispered curiously, earning a small flick of a tail across his ears as Soarshadow whispered quickly. “Why not? It’s not like there’s any code that says Medicine Cats can’t step down.” He seemed to have a soft and curious look. The matter of why was more interesting than the matter of if Eclipsesky could.
Clovekit watched curiously from the nursery entrance, something pulling at her chest as she looked at Eclipsesky. She had begun to realize that he sometimes looked at her like Ravenkit- now Ravenpaw- had before. She didn’t know why, but she did find herself entranced with the stories of the medicine cats and their herbs. She flicked her green eyes over to Dawnshadow.

Dashclaw tilted his head. Eclipsesky was stepping down? He looked over at the medicine cat and followed his gaze to Palegaze and Silverspirit. Did they happen to know why?
Beanpaw peered around his new mentor at the medicine cat. He didn't know Eclipsesky that well. He looked up at Palegaze. "Why does StarClan not want him to be a medicine cat anymore?"

Palegaze gave Eclipsesky a soft, slow blink, ignoring the Clan's muttering and curious looks. He twitched an ear, looking down at Beanpaw.
"That's something only he and StarClan know," he said lowly, not letting on that Eclipsesky had shared their reasoning with him. "Who knows, maybe sometime you'll get to train with him."

Eclipsesky smiled nervously at Beanpaw, dipping his head to the young tom. "We can learn together. My mother was a great tunneler just like your father."
Swiftstar cleared his throat to call attention to himself once more. "Please do not bombard Eclipsesky with your questions. If it is Starclan's wish for him to step down, we must respect it. He will move his nest out of the medicine cat den at moonhigh. Lastly, tomorrow will be the next gathering. Those of you who are coming, please be prepare to meet at sunset for the journey. Thank you." he finished, before starting to climb down from the rock, dismissing the meeting.

Palegaze padded quickly over to Eclipsesky and Beanpaw, smiling apologetically at his cousin. It seemed he would have his paws full with this energetic apprentice.
"I think you're right, Beanpaw, it will be fun," he meowed. "Why don't you go see the other apprentices for a moment while I have a word with Eclipsesky? Then we'll go for a tour of the territory. Sound all right with you?"

Sagefoot shook her head, "I'm not sure, but I know they've been spending a lot of time together and sometimes Eclipsesky looks guilty when he's speaking with her. It's a good thing that Dawnshadow is an excellent medicine cat as well. She will take care of the clan."

Whispersong waited until Swiftstar had dismissed the clan before she turned to Ravenpaw, "I can take you to see the territory now, and if we have time, I can show you some hunting techniques while we're out of camp." She said to him quietly, turning to lead her new apprentice towards the camp entrance.

“I have faith that she will.” Stonepath nodded before he grew silent for a moment, before finally admitting. “I have seen one of the kits often staring alot at the medicine den… but… I only wonder at the irony of it.” He glanced towards the nursery, where Clovekit was indeed looking intently at Eclipsesky and Dawnshadow from behind Ashsong.
Ravenpaw nodded curtly. “I’m ready for anything you have to give me, Whispersong. I won’t let you down.” He promised, dutiful and driven to finally be able to prove his worth. He pushed the nursery out of his mind, trying not to think about Jaykit and her sisters.
