Miranda was born today. This diary will be hers when she turns 14.

I am almost 15, as I will be turning that old in March. That is only one-third of a year away. My chores seem almost continuous, but Mother can always seem to find me some downtime. Lisa turned 8 about a month ago, so she started helping with small chores. Mother dug up this old diary for me. She said she wants me to record whats happening around America. Many colonists are very angry with Great Britain and wish to rebel. Mother says my writing about this war could be useful. I wonder how. Mother is now calling me to churn butter.
Writing later,
Miranda Stewart
Annotations: Her mother gave it to her late.

I must rush today because it is time for butchering. We need to stack up forbeef winter. The almanac says we will have an exceptionally hard winter. If this war takes place, and England stops importing food, we will be suffering from deprivation of food. Father will leave us to join the New Jersey Militia Regiment once the butchering is done. Mother is worried, but I am not. I will write less often because I have more tasks today. Springflower, our cow, will be mine to watch over and milk.
Wishing to write later,
Miranda

Today, we had mass. My scratchy petticoat and thick cotton skirt were displeased. I don't believe a petticoat even has a purpose. It would be worse to clean the lou then to wear a petticoat. Lissa, the lucky one, doesn't have to have a petticoat. If only I were 8 again. We were making soap yesterday, but today is Sunday. I can't cook play or knit. I only seem to be allowed to write and read the bible.
Bored as always,
Miranda

Monday Chores
1st December, 1774
Thursday is laundry day. I have free time on laundry day. Lissa will take care of Springflower today. This is because Mother wants to make her grow up. We are missing father since hunting season started. Lissa misses him the most since she was his favorite. John, our neighbor, will bring us some spoils from his hunting. Our rifle is low on ammunition and Mother can't get anymore because of this war. I must go. John is knocking.

Hi, this is the most hilarious thing to reread for me, but its not over! No, I'm just too lazy to type up the whole thing. I'll probably update it soon, so I at least have the entire story saved.

Monday Chores
- cooking
- laundry
- farmwork
- shopwork
- sewing
- so on and so forth
These are the most awful, boring, and slightly useful chores. I snuck out my diary instead of reading a passage of scripture. Effects of this war have already hit us.Coffee and tea have hitten very high prices. Our meats our being taken quickly. We have to work twice as hard with father gone, but we only get half the profit.
These are bad times,
Miranda
