ArtichokeLocation: The Forest (Artichoke and Caci's abode) With: Caci ( soot ) Artichoke nodded with minuscule movements in thoughtful agreement. It was to be expected that they’d need a little extra insulation, especially around this time of year. He blinked when her head vanished back into the den, the entrance slipping closed behind her. After a moment’s pause, he leaned forward to nose it open, but it pushed open before he could. Caci was already propping it open from within. With a soft huff, he slipped into the den, brushing past her as he did. It already felt warmer sheltered from the breezy outdoors. His paws sunk into soft moss, and he looked down and around to admire Caci’s deft handiwork across the entire floor of their den. He stepped inside, padding around and he nosed the moss here and there as if checking its depth. This… This was far more than he would have ever done on his own. She must’ve spent lots of time gathering enough moss for this. At last he finished his exploration of the den and stopped face to face with Caci. His copper eyes gleamed with warmth. “It’s perfect,” he purred, leaning forward to lick her cheek. “You’ve outdone yourself.” He turned back to look at their blanketed nest and gave a long stretch, his white fur looking almost ghostly in the carefully designed lighting above. “Mmmm… There’s nothing I’d like more than to slip into that lovely looking nest with the most beautiful and talented molly at my side.” Artichoke rose from his stretch, and glanced back at Caci when he spoke of her beauty and talent, his tail rising to brush against her neck and chin. Then a pretend look of woe crossed Artichoke’s face and he slowly swung his gaze back to the generously padded nest. He gave his head a small woeful shake. “But I’m afraid that once we get in, we won’t be able to get out again. So first-“ Artichoke dropped his woeful facade and swiftly brushed past Caci to the entrance, which he nudged open with his head, one ear flattening as it pressed against the curtain of twigs and vines. He propped it open with his body, leaving a space wide enough for Caci to exit unhindered. “Let us eat, so we can come back and give this nest a try.” His copper gaze glittered and gleamed with his words, much too excited to look very tired. After such a long and busy day, he was indeed quite eager to slip into that nest-like mass of comfort. A new nest all their own, and they’d be sleeping in it for the first time! He was sure Caci must be getting tired hungry by now as well. They'd been working hard for most of the day, prepping the den and securing the boundaries. It was about time they spoiled themselves on some of their efforts. (That's perfect! ^^) (This move has put Artichoke in a very good mood. :3)

(Hey Myst! Just a quick question, haha ^^’ I was wondering, if Binx is going to be staying at the Barn, would you want to have an interaction with Zee sometime? Before or after the storm, whichever. He’d likely he happy to greet her when she first arrived to the Barn. Only if you’re up for it of course!) I’d be down for this! Honestly she could use some socialization lol she’s in desperate need of it lol so I’m down for here to meet Zee - likely after the storm so that they can be up to speed time-wise with everyone else c:

Caci Location // The Forest (Artichoke and Caci’s abode) W/ Artichoke (@Light) Caci’s ears perked up to as sharp a point as they could, happy he likes her work, leaning forward perfectly willing at the open affection. She lightly nudges her ode to his again before he turns. “I’m right happy you like it. The moss took some time to get back and fourth.. but it was worth it, I think.” She says, giving a slight but happy smile, left ear flickering.
Caci gives Artichoke an amused look, her own tail flicking, grazing along his flank. She let him speak, a quiet chatter at the ornate compliment before Caci looks clearly cheered at the prospect of prey. “Those sweet words of yours only work after I’ve eaten.” She replies, standing with with a curl of her tail, following him with a small leap, slipping out of the politely held open entrance, nudging the flat of her head against the crook of the white tom’s neck as she steps out. Her paws light and careful on the cold, still snow sprinkled ground. Caci turns after she exits, waiting for Artichoke.
A small, sudden flash of anxiety crept up the tip of her tail to the base of her neck. Shifting on her paws, trying to keep the eager look in her eyes, glancing to the side.
To be frank, she’d almost suggested taking their prey inside to the nest to eat.. her paws are aching fiercely, which she’d been ignoring carfully before, doing what she knows she can, but pushing it just a bit. Carrying kits is no easy feat, she’s seen plenty of others doing so in her life, so Caci isn’t inexperienced with symptoms in any regard..
She just somewhat forgot how sudden it can feel. Brushing her tail against her back legs, Caci leaning down to stretch before trotting alongside Artichoke. Caci’s practically sure she’s carrying.. but how exactly does she tell Artichoke, is the question? Caci vividly remembers with mildly visible amusement how her own mum told her father. He was flabbergasted, and proceeded to trip on the walk they’d been on.. and subsequently sprained his paw.
It was eventful. With a curious glance to her mate, her amusement sheening some, she certainly hopes Artichoke doesn’t sprain his paw with the news.
(I’m not the biggest fan of my writing on this one, but I attempted ^^’ And haha, I can see why! He was very eager to move further into the forest. I’m thinking of, well, thinking up a few places in their territory to have for when the kits come along!)

Alice »
New cats came and went from the barn all the time; it was a way of life here, cats knowing now to get attached to newcomers too quickly lest they end up with broken hearts and unfulfilled friendships. Alice knew that by heart, and while she would admit to not being super attached to Binx, she did find a source of comfort from the black molly. Binx was of no threat to her and her barnmates, and Alice was finding that she was enjoying Binx’s company. The tortoiseshell would have no qualms if the black cat decided to stay, but she also wouldn’t force Binx to stay if she decided to leave back for the pines. Either way, Alice felt she could trust Binx around her little sister. When it came to Wonder, Alice was fiercely protective - not that she wasn’t protective over all her barnmates, she was the cat in charge around here after all, but with Wonder it was different. The other cats were like family to Alice, but Wonder was family to Alice. And she wasn’t about to let just any ol’ stranger come around and make contact with Wonder.
The trepidation Wonder was expressing around Binx was a good thing in Alice’s eye. This meant the calico wouldn’t be overly eager to greet newcomers. Hospitality was important, especially for a place that was a safe haven for travelers, but wariness was just as important. To Alice it was important that Wonder stay safe, and this confirmed to the tortoiseshell that Wonder knew how to do that, but in this instance, having deemed Binx safe, Alice wanted her sister to ease herself and get to know Binx.
Once Wonder had managed to pull herself up and come to sit beside Alice, the tortoiseshell leaned over to give the calico a nose nudge, purring softly in welcome. She then wrapped her tail gently around Wonder, subtly offering the younger molly comfort. Even with the other barn cats Wonder sometimes had a hard time getting comfortable with social interactions. It was easy to see that she was ruffled by Binx’s presence, unsure of herself and uneasy as she spoke, but Alice would be there to comfort and guide her. And while being cautious around newcomers was something Alice wanted her sister to practice, getting used to being somewhat at ease with new cats would be a good skill to learn as well.
Alice remained silent as Binx spoke up, giving the black molly a chance to say what was on her mind and introduce herself to Wonder in her own way. She didn’t speak back up until Binx asked a question, a question that Alice hadn’t expected, but she hid her surprise and merely turned to look at the other molly, head tilted ever so slightly. ”The twolegs probably won’t swing by until the morning,” she replied evenly. Alice noted how anxiety crept into Binx’s voice like tendrils of ivy; getting used to twolegs hanging around and there being dogs was hard for some newcomers, and Binx was no exception to that. If she decided to stay she’d have to either learn how to avoid the humans and dogs - avoiding the dogs was a rather hard task to accomplish though - or she’d have to learn to be okay with their presence. But that was a problem that could be resolved at a later date.
”The dogs, though… who’s to say with them. I wouldn’t be surprised if at least Bo came out here one last time to check on us.” Bo was the oldest and most experienced farm dog. Just as Alice was the unofficial leader of the barn cats, Bo was the unofficial leader of the farm dogs. If any dog were to brave the winter storm to check on them it would be Bo. ”But it’ll be fine if they do,” she added quickly, knowing that Binx’s nerves could easily become frazzled at the thought of one of the dogs being around.

WonderLocation: Barn With: Alice and Binx ( Myst and Feathertalon ) Alice’s dark tail brushed against Wonder’s side. Some of the young molly’s tension eased at Alice’s touch and she looked up at her with a grateful blink. Thanks to Alice’s supporting presence, Wonder managed to raise her spring green eyes to meet Binx’s orange gaze as the black cat responded. Wonder’s eyes widened when Binx mentioned coming from the pines and she quickly glanced at Alice. Alice had come from the pines as well. She had heard how inhospitable that place could be. She looked back at Binx, her ears perking as the molly continued to speak. The tension in Wonder’s frame eased further as the topic changed and Binx started to talk more about herself. This was Binx’s second cold season? Wonder followed Binx’s gaze to the snow outside the door. It was Wonder’s second cold season as well, though this would be the first time spending it outside. It was much colder than she’d thought it’d be. And the snow…. Wonder’s jaws parted a little as she watched it fall. Behind a window, that was all she could do. Just watch it fall. Now that she was outside, she could get up close to it and see what it was really like. Until now, she’d only heard stories. Perhaps she could ask Alice if they could go and check it out together later. She glanced back at Binx, blinking as she realized what Binx must mean by what she said. From what little she’d seen from the window, the snow could get pretty deep. The barn cats had the barn to keep them safe, but she had to wonder how they got by through day to day life. Now that she was one of them, she was sure that she’d find out soon. But if Binx came from the outside… Out where fox and coyote roamed waiting to snatch up unsuspecting cats… Out in the wild where there was no barn-like shelter… Where food was scarce and cats had to struggle and fight to catch anything… She had heard that all these things became far worse in leafbare. It was no wonder Binx was glad to have Alice lead her to the barn. Wonder’s gaze turned sympathetic, and she gave Binx a more soft and genuine smile. On the discussion of dogs and twolegs, Wonder’s ears perked and her spirits lifted. She noted Binx’s nervous tone and felt the need to further assure her. If there was anything she knew around here, it was the dogs and the twolegs. “They are really nice,” she added after Alice had finished her explanation, her eyes bright~ a stark contrast to when she had first arrived. (Myst: Ahh, sorry. XD Just noticed your post on the last page. Yeah! It might be a fun plot to see through. Largely depends on how Alice and Killer meet and their first impressions. ^^ There is a historical based plot planned for later between Killer and one of the cats who kind of dwells at the barn.) — ArtichokeLocation: The Forest (Artichoke and Caci's abode) With: Caci ( soot ) Artichoke prrowed a low laugh at her words and watched Caci step out, leaning into her nudge with a warm smile. He slipped out after her, his copper gaze carefully observing her as she stretched. Was it just his imagination, or did she seem to be favouring her paws? She must be tired. She did say she had travelled back and forth several times. His own paws were still a tad sore from digging in frozen soil. When she started forward, his tail swished before her to halt her step. “This looks like a good spot right here. The sun is bright and we have a nice clearing on this side, within easy view of the entrance. Wait here. I’ll go and bring our feast,” he meowed with a wink. With that, the white tom padded around the tree trunk to the other side. A minute later, he came back carrying the raven in his jaws. He set it down before Caci and settled himself across from her. “A prime feast, as promised,” he said with a smirk. “And the first feathers to add to our new den. Not that it needs any more padding.” Taking the blankets over was enough of a task on its own. It had been decided that it was far too difficult and impractical to take the feathers along as well. Artichoke had assured her that they would find more for their new den~ and so he had. But as he looked down at the large black bird between them, he swallowed a grimace. He knew what must be done next. Leaning forward, he carefully closed his teeth around a small bunch of feathers on his side and he tugged them free. He should be used to it by now, but the feeling of feathers in his mouth was revolting. Every time, he had to use much of his concentration to refrain from gagging, making him terribly slow at the job of defeathering. He released the feathers in a small pile beside him. (Looks good to me! ;3) (XD Yeah! Ooh. Perfect. ^^ And they could come up with all sorts of names for these places, hehe.)

Caci Location // The Forest (Artichoke and Caci’s abode)
Caci paused her paws, ear quirked as she looked to Arti. She hummed before realizing, giving a small, amused smile. “Oh, a whole feast?” She replied amusedly, looking around the area happily. They chose an excellent spot- it took days (days) to find, but it was really worth the time. Especially the territory in of itself.. they were lucky to have stumbled upon this log, fallen, and perfectly sized and hollow to fit them inside of it. Warm when insulated, and nice and cool during the hotter seasons when they move the insulation. It does tend to get cold at night anywho, even during the blazing seasons. So, convenient! One of her particular favorites they found while making the borders of their territory, was an absolute monster of a tree hidden in the more densely forested art of their territory. It was taller than all surrounding it, and with a tiny, barely perceptible hole where Caci reasons another animal of some kind took residence. Caci twirls softly, carfully of her tender paws before she sits down, tail swishing lightly at its curled tip end. Like Arti says (he’s not wrong, all that often. Mostly morally-), it’s warm and sunny, and it mixes pleasantly with the cold chill lingering in the air, likely to get colder the further into the season they go. Hopefully there’s not too bad of another storm.. thankfully their log is on a bit of an incline, so that shoulder helps some, the largely packed snow hopefully getting pushed down and away. Caci glances up as her dearest morally challenged tom’s scent comes back more strongly, and with his caught feast in maw. “A prime feast, yeah? Well I can say you didn’t disappoint!” Caci says, ears perked up, giving him a smile. She’s only a little bit ravenous. Shuffling her front paws forward, she leans down, her eyes happy and wide as he sets it down. Her ears flicker. “There’s nothing that couldn’t use more padding.” She says, giving him her smiled mixed grin. And she’s perfectly dead serious. “It’ll be nice- warm, and good for future reference.” She says, not really thinking her sentence through as she licks her dry teeth. She snorts at the absolutely discomforted expression on Artichoke’s face, leaning forward to licked at his ear before she set her gaze onto the bird. His distaste for feathers will never not be funny. With carefully teeth, she starts plucking feathers from the top of the bird’s head, and moves further down to the base of the bird. You always pluck from the spine, right where it connects. The silver moly sets about putting them in a neat pile to the side, sharing with Artichoke. With their combined efforts, the black bird is fully defeathered, Caci glances up patiently (slightly), brow quirked. “Does the hunter want the first bite of his well earned feast?” She asks, tone light, her ears pinned straight. Caci’s trying to keep polite while also being absolutely ravenous. Shifting on her belly, paws tucking under her chest fur, head tilting, and nose twitching. The molly is still heavily considering how exactly to bring up the topic that’s giving her more anxiety than anything has in recent times. (mhm! That’s what I was thinking, and so they could have little places for the kits to explore! And laze around at, haha. Oh, and nice profile photo! I like it ^^]

ArtichokeLocation: The Forest (Artichoke and Caci's abode) With: Caci ( soot ) “That’s right! A prime feast for a prime tom such as myself and his everlovely mate. Let’s call it a celebratory feast for our new home,” Artichoke meowed with a flashing grin, his tail flicking high before settling back upon the ground. At Caci’s response to the padding, he let out a chuckle. Of course Caci would think that. Artichoke didn’t mind all that much, as long as he didn’t have to do too much of the cleanup of said padding. He had come from simple roots. A simple, yet comfortable grass or moss nest had been plenty enough to keep him happy within his den. But since meeting Caci, now his old style of den seemed more like sleeping on bare rock. Though he sometimes would bring up Caci’s seemingly excessive appreciation for comfort in tease, he had to admit that he actually enjoyed her luxurious taste. If given the choice, he didn’t think he would go back to the old simple grass nests. At her mention of ‘future reference’, he gave her an odd look, chose not to think much of it. Caci’s amused utterances at his struggle with feathers only deepened his sulking disdain for the art of defeathering. Artichoke’s white ear twitched under Caci’s warm tongue, and his prickled pride eased at her touch. He let out a disgruntled huff and reached for his next pick of feathers. Perhaps he should just be glad she derived some amusement from his attempts at this insufferable task. He set the last feathers on the pile with a pleased look that clearly said ‘good riddance’. He knew well enough that they were going to pick them up again to take them into the den, but for now he wouldn’t think on it. He’d much rather enjoy the fresh featherless pink meal before them. “Don’t mind if I do~!” Without hesitation, he dug into the juicy meat of the thigh. The taste of warm delectable meat and blood on his tongue quickly worked to dissipate all of the negativity that had built during the defeathering process. His copper eyes slid over to his mate, his brow doing a short dance. He wondered if she was enjoying the bird as much as he was. Bird after all~ was her favourite. After swallowing down his first bite, he deemed to ask Caci a question. "So how do you feel about it so far?" he asked vaguely with a gleam in his eyes. He meant the new territory, the den, the future that they would have here, but he knew very well that his vague question could also be taken to be asking about the raven meal before them. Even so, he did not clarify. It would be interesting to see which it was that Caci thought of first. He tried to hide his smirk by taking another bite of bird. (Totally! I might throw in ideas in the future as I think of 'em. ^^) (Thanks! XD Tis my early spring edition!)

Comet »
That made sense. What was their luck hunting in areas that they already knew were devoid of prey? In this weather the prey wouldn’t be running well - leaving cats skinny and hungry - but prey had to eat too. Some of the more desperate ones would be out foraging in hopes of finding their own food. Comet and Jack Frost just had to be lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.
”I don’t hunt the moor a lot, either,” Comet admitted with a lopsided smile traced with embarrassment. He and his littermate didn’t live too far from the moorland, so hunting there should be a more prominent task in his life, yet it wasn’t. He enjoyed the taste of rabbit, they were plump and rather juicy, but Comet did prefer the taste of woodland prey overall. There was a certain muskiness to it, a smoky flavor, that Comet preferred. Even still, in a winter like this one, food was food and a full belly couldn’t distinguish mouse from rabbit unlike the tongue could.
Even still, his skills were honed better to the undergrowth of the woods. He looked out further into the deep bushes where brambles and vines still clung to life in the snowfall. ”We could try further in the woods,” he suggested with a gesture with his head. ”We may get lucky with a mouse or squirrel.” Luckier yet and they got both, but Comet was smart enough not to push his luck in speaking those wishes aloud. Jack Frost sighed at the suggestion of squirrel. He always struggled to catch the dang things, him being much too heavy to go carelessly chase them into their tree top homes. "Let's give it a go." Padding into the woods, the large tom slowed his pace to avoid stepping on anything that might crunch under his weight. If he were prey- Jack Frost was glad he wasn't- he'd been working hard to gather food before the everything died off and it was roots for days. Since neither cat seemed to have an exact location in mind, Jack Frost led the way to a berry bush he remembered passing before. (just out of curiosity are there plans in motion/mind for getting all the cats together? are 'the voice' directing them somewhere special/specific or...? )

Binx -- The Barn, Before the Storm | With Alice and Wonder - Feathertalon Light Whatever tension had hung in the air seemed to dissipate on its own, at least on Wonder’s end, though she was sure that due in part to Alice’s presence. She could really only imagine the true extent of how close the two were to each other, but she was sure they were extremely close. That much was clear with he calico managed to meet her gaze. Despite this, she herself found she could not maintain it for long and turned her attention to the outside as she spoke. Talking about herself was much easier than coming up with questions on the fly – she wouldn’t even know what to ask Wonder without seeming disrespectful. She was the most curious about if she ever thought of exploring places outside beyond the fences.
Those kinds of questions could have their time later, if at all. Right now, Binx was focused on the storm and what it may bring in terms of visitors. The dogs were one thing in her mind – they seemed friendly enough. If they weren’t, then so many cats wouldn’t stay here, at least, not for long. The twolegs, on the other hand, were another. While it was completely out of her control, she wished they wouldn’t come at all. She’d already survived one leaf-bare, she’d surely survive another just like the other cats here. Though, she couldn’t exactly remember how harsh the season had been at that time, the molly liked to think it wasn’t any worse than it was right now. Or perhaps it was worse and she simply wanted to believe it wasn’t.
Alice’s confirmation that the humans would likely come the next day did little to soothe her nerves. She didn’t have many options of avoidance in her mind considering it would be unlikely that the weather would allow her to leave in the morning. She could always hide somewhere, she was small enough, but surely the humans knew this place better than herself. Frowning just a little, Binx only listened as she continued on about the dogs. Right – Bo had been that larger gray dog. He seemed… well she wasn’t sure, having been too focused on how much smaller than him she was. “Right, it’ll be fine…” she echoed.
When Wonder spoke up, she finally looked back to the pair, noting immediately the other seemed to have brightened up. Alright, if it hadn’t been clear she was the only cat having trust issues at the moment, then it was now. “I’ll take your word for it, then. I’ve not had the best experience with twolegs.” She paused, frown deepening just so at the thought. Shaking her head a little, she offered the pair an apologetic grin. “Sorry – I don’t mean to bring the mood down. The dogs seem really interesting – Bo especially. He does seem nice, which I wouldn’t have expected of such a large dog.”
As if on queue, the canine in question made his way into the barn, a layer of snow clinging to his fur as he made what would be the first of many rounds to check on the animals. Orange eyes had flickered to him with the new movement and her ears perked with interest, watching as he stopped briefly to check on whatever cats he found. “Do they have jobs? Like Bo, does he do something specific or does he just live here because he can like the cats?”
(Work had me slammed this whole week ;-; very much hoping to catch a break this weekend tho)

Caci Location // The Forest (Artichoke and Caci’s abode) Caci’s ears flick in an obvious amusement at the confident grin, her eyes lingering softly for a few moments. Caci’s very happy to report that his absolute distaste and hatred for feathers is everlastingly amusing. “And such perfecting from her ever-adoring mate, as usual.” She replies, paws carefully and softly tucked into her chest fur, comfortable. Caci’s shoulders droop at the relief of being off of her paws fully after the morning passed and the day flew by a little quicker than she’d thought it would. Not yet nightfall, a bit past midday. Caci’s yellow eyes look at the soft, neatly stacked feathers happily, already thinking of plenty of ways to put them to use before her attention drifted (snapped) to the bird in front of her and her loveliest, ever confident mate. The moment after he’d taken a bite, she sinks her teeth into bird, savoring the metallic and oddly airy flavor. Crossing her paws, Caci glances up to Artichoke with a quirked ear at the question. How does she feel about it so far. What exactly? The new den, and territory? The prey in front of them? The work they’ve done today? She chatters quietly, ears perking up with a smile. “It’s just lovely. I have a hard time choosing what to spend my time looking at or exploring.” The silver molly says, head set on her paws for a moment before she brings it right back up. Her tone fully genuine, and gleeful, her eyes flicking around at the little cleared area around their new home. “I’m excited to use the nest, probably more than I should with everything to do around.” She adds, mildly amused, her ears flicking at a thoughtful question. Maybe now is a good opportunity to.. nudge the subject? Head tilted the tiniest bit, paws flexing for a moment as she stares directly to the snow bright tom. “A safe place so far- from what I’ve seen, for kits to bumble around as well.” She says lightly, tail flicking behind her, the smile still gracing her face as happy as she was moments ago. Innocence and not quite offhandedness in her tone. (mhm! I’m trying to think of a few things more naturey! But I’d do think of there maybe being an old tree house per se, more of a platform up in a tree than anything ^^’ sort of like those camping things, or hunting perches? Oh! And an area that they might adapt to help train the kits. Once they’re older. Like loops and dips and arches in the ground and rock that they race around in like an obstacle course?)

Comet »
An important thing about hunting that Comet always remembered to do was checking the wind for any scents. He had his doubts that he would pick anything up, but he knew he needed to try. Stepping to the side and shifting his head in the direction of the wind, Comet parted his jaws and drew in a deep breath, curling his nose upward and drawing his whiskers inward to help bring the wind to his scent glands. The sharp scent of snow was prominent and intermingled with the fresh cat scents of both him and Jack Frost. But, if he concentrated just hard enough, Comet was sure he could pick up the stale scent of something feathery - a sparrow perhaps? A cardinal? It was too faint to distinguish what exactly species the scent was from, but there was prey sign. As stale as it was, it gave Comet just a twinge of hope that they could end up successful.
Snapping his jaws back together, Comet followed after his newfound friend, not wanting to get too far behind Jack Frost. The other tom’s pelt blended in so well with the fallen snow that Comet didn’t want to lose sight of him. ”It was faint, but I picked up bird scent,” he called out to the other feline, curious to know what Jack Frost thought of that. Birds were tricky, as were a lot of tree-bound prey, but if that’s all they had the chance at getting, it was better than nothing, and if they managed a catch then at least some of their hunger could be sated.
Alice »
Alice could see that while Wonder had relaxed and eased, Binx was now going rigid, tension sparking underneath her pelt now that the twolegs and dogs had been brought up once more. It wasn’t odd to find an outsider to have difficulties with wrapping their mind around coexisting with both humans and dogs. When she had been younger the tortoiseshell herself had been confused by it all when her mother had first brought her to the barn, before Wonder had been born, but she had grown used to it and now couldn’t imagine life without the odd bond she had with the farm twolegs and the dogs. There was a respect there that went unspoken, but was clear in every action made. Not many outsiders understood that at first, and Binx probably never would if she was only a temporary guest. Even still, Alice wanted to make her stay as comfortable as possible.
The black and orange furred feline shook her head. ”No need to be sorry. Barn life can be odd to those who are new to the concept.” Binx wasn’t the first cat to be put off by all of this, and she most certainly wouldn’t be the last.
As if he had been summoned, the large figure of Bo came padding into the barn. Alice glanced down to watch the canine for a moment. Her whiskers twitched in amusement at seeing all the snow that had piled atop his back; it didn’t look comfortable, but she knew that it was a good sign to see snow piled up on him - it meant the snow wasn’t melting down and freezing his skin. So long as it stayed on him like that he would be well insulated and warm. And if he did start to get cold, he was smart enough to either stay inside the barn and lay down on some of the hay or head back to the twolegs’ place. Bo was dedicated to his job, but he wasn’t an idiot when it came to preserving himself and the animals he was meant to protect.
”Bo has a job,” answered Alice matter-of-factly. ”He’s a guardian of all the animals here. Should a pack of coyotes, foxes, or some other wily creature try to go after any of the livestock here then Bo takes care of it. He’s a softy to all of us here, but I’ve seen that dog tear the hide right off a coyote before.” It had been quite the interesting sight, and Alice had almost felt bad for the coyote after watching it limp off bloodied and torn, surely running off to die somewhere. The mangy thing had it coming for thinking it could get away with stealing a newborn calf. ”Spark and Confetti tend to help the twolegs round up the cows. Confetti’s still pretty young and has some training left to do, but she’s made progress. I think the twolegs will end up keeping her.” There had been a few dogs on the farm that hadn’t been allowed to stay; Alice recalled a time when the humans had brought back another dog like Bo’s breed. She had only stayed for about two moons, and when it was clear that she wasn’t willing to learn how to become a guardian, the twolegs had taken her away. Where they had left her, Alice had no idea, but the twolegs had never shown themselves to be cruel to their animals, so Alice was sure the she-dog had been taken somewhere comfortable to live. ”The twolegs also have Spark do other things as well. Some sort of competitions, but I don’t know much about all of that. Wonder?” Alice cocked her head as she turned her gaze onto the young calico. ”Do you happen to know more about that?”
[ im really interested to see how alice and killer interact when that time comes! O: ]

Quinn // with spackle soot The tabby opened her jaws, preparing to deliver a rebuttal, but Spackle had already dismissed their debate. For whatever reason. So, she only grunted in reply. It was best to drop it before things got too... heated. What was his fixation on life and death anyway? Why couldn't he understand that it differed from cat to cat? Quinn was raised and taught to survive. That's what life was, according to her single, rogue mother. About survival. Alone. She may not have agreed with her mother's tactics, but some of her teachings had stuck. She'd made it this far after all. And what about housecats? To them, life was about being pampered and pleasing their twolegs, raising kits that would go off to live with their housefolk. Or maybe they'd escape and find a life roaming the streets of twolegplace as strays or off to live in the wild as feral cats. It was all up to the eye of the beholder. And, yet, Spackle couldn't put his paw on that- simple to Quinn -fact. Toms. She thought with a sigh as her paws continued to squelch through the melting snow.
She couldn't wait for the warmer weather. When birdsong echoed off every tree and house, and squirrels chattered. Sunlight beaming down and tempting cats out of hiding to sunbathe. But instead, they had the cold, wet, unforgiving snow. And the cold call of crows was the only birdsong that echoed through twolegplace. Peachy.
Huntress? Quinn quickly glanced over her shoulder at that name. How'd Spackle know she called herself that? Did I say it out loud? She couldn't remember... The only other cat that called her huntress was her mother. She physically cringed, quickly averting blue eyes back on the path ahead. Instead, she eyed a particularly uninteresting fence as they passed by. "Who, Harley? She's fine, I guess." Did she really consider the dog a friend? Maybe a denmate, but friend was a bit much. Quinn snorted, "She doesn't do much of anything. Suck up to our housefolk, sit, stay, roll over, the usual dog thing."
"What about you? Your kits? How'd they find an old coot like you." She purred, humorously flicking the gray-speckled tom with her tail. Two could play this subject-changing game.
✰✰✰
Smoke // with percy Feathertalon Smoke never wanted to come back here again. Not even dipping his head could protect him from the winds that constantly threatened to push him off his paws. He wasn't sure Percy could hear the amused purr he rumbled over the whistling winds. But the ginger and white tom was right; they had arrived. The gray tabby paused to look up at the looming mountains. Tufts of grass and shrubbery peaking out on the rocky landscape here and there. But where did they go next? They'd followed the treeline to the moor instead of following the water, the fastest route they'd decided. But where would they find a puma from here?
Smoke's ears strained to hear any signs of life over the wind, but it was no avail. The only remote sound of movement was the familiar gurgle of the stream as it snaked along in the distance. "Perhaps moorcats have excellent hearing as well," The tom joked, turning to his companion. His expression clouded with uncertainty, "Do we climb?" His stomach churned with anxiety. They had made it. They were getting closer and closer to uncovering the truth about Smoke's ancestors. About SylvanClan and EtherClan.
(percy and smoke aren't aware of the cave yet, right? i think thats a thing but my mind could be fuzzy)
✰✰✰
Lotus // with vixen Myst Grudgingly, Lotus followed after the slender cat. Her hare dragged along beneath her, held firmly in her jaws. Her ears rotated at the smallest of sounds, the last thing they needed was another ambush. The tortoiseshell let the cat lead her to their den, her amber eyes never leaving the path ahead. If looks could kill, her amber eyes would surely burn through the cat's russet pelt. They'd interrupted her solitude, she'd have gotten away and avoided that fox if they had never intercepted. But then again, she probably would have lost her meal if they had not approached her. Stupid cat. She thought with another growl. And why were they going so slow! Lotus's tail lashed with irritation as they trekked from the marshland to the pines. And just as she was about to spit out her hare and a nasty remark, the cat beckoned to a tree trunk not too far away from them.
It was then the molly realized this area reeked of her companion's scent. She'd been so lost in her rage, she hadn't even noticed. With a curt nod, Lotus limped to the small hollow, scowling as she passed the meager fresh-kill pile. She offered this cat her prey and they accepted, knowing they'd already had some. Lousy piece of- She grumbled to herself as she delicately grabbed the cobwebs and began to dress her torn claw. They sat in silence as she cleaned and then wrapped her claw. Once she finished, she pressed her throbbing foot down on the ground, growling satisfaction at the numbed pain she felt. "Thanks." Lotus forced out, her mew tainted with the slightest growl. But she was grateful. It would be sunset by the time she would've made it to her den if it hadn't been for this awful cat. "For the fox. And the cobweb."

[ i’ll have Percy spot the other group! And i like to imagine that Puma knows they’re coming. She doesn’t know when, but StarClan has told her a group will arrive in their own starclan way ] Percy »
By the stars Percy couldn’t begin to imagine how a cat could comfortably live in these conditions. Leaf-bare was sure to play a part in all of this, and the snowstorm was not helping one bit, but even on a perfect day the ginger and white tom didn’t think he’d be able to handle not living where the trees made enough cover to hide a cat from the elements. To each their own, he supposed. Moor cats were sure to feel uneasy in the forest just as he felt uneasy at being on the moor.
Mountains high above stopped Percy in his tracks. His tail flicked in discontent as green eyes gazed upon the steep slope and perilous rocks. A pit grew in his stomach the size of the mountain he was staring at. He could climb trees with ease, but a mountain? Percy glanced at his paws? Could they handle such a climb? Green eyes found their way back to Smoke. The snowy wind was whipping the other tom’s gray fur around furiously. Specks of fresh snow dappled Smoke’s pelt, creating the illusion of stars in his pelt. Percy paused. Did the cats Smoke spoke to in his dreams look like that? It couldn’t be too different of a sight, for in this moment Smoke truly did look ethereal.
Steeling his nerves and calming his doubts, Percy stood tall. He’d climb this mountain and all the rest if it meant helping Smoke achieve his destiny. He was just about to speak up and voice his newfound bravery when a flash of something in the corner of his eye grabbed his attention. Percy turned, the fur along his spine bristling in sudden curiosity. ”Hey, Smoke,” he meowed, stretching on his tiptoes to get a better look through the snow just across the stream. ”Are those other cats?”

Mist In the forest With no one
Mist followed the scent of a magpie, she dropped into a hunter crouch, the magpie pecked the ground, hoping for a worm to sprout up, the magpie noticed Mist and got ready to fly when Mist pounced on the bird, giving it the death blow, she smirked "Caught you!" she picked it up and wandered, she stopped and noticed a fox set the entrance draped in lichen she thought for a moment than entered as it started dripping rain, she smelled the scent of stale fox, she was about to jump out before she realized it was stale, thankfully abandoned, she dropped the magpie and thought for a moment, she could use this for a den! she picked up the magpie and set it in the food storage that the fox used to use, she then curled up, having she ate earlier in the day as the moonlight shone in from a hole above the den that was slightly covered in lichen, she curled her tail to her nose and drifted to sleep as the rain poured and the moonlight shone through the hole
Fox In the twoleg nest With no one
Fox gently leaped onto a twoleg bed and purred as the twoleg ran their hand along their back and signaled him to lay, he curled with the twoleg and listened to the pounding rain on the roof as he drifted to sleep

ArtichokeLocation: The Forest (Artichoke and Caci's abode) With: Caci ( soot ) “We’ll have plenty of time to explore.” Artichoke licked some blood off his lips, and watched Caci look around. His ears were held tall, and his tail flicked with barely concealed excitement. “Tomorrow morning, when the sun just starts to shine through the tops of the trees~ let’s go on a hunt. We can further familiarize ourselves with our local landmarks and explore all the nooks and crannies. How about it?” Artichoke’s teeth gleamed as he spoke. His gaze had flicked this way and that, but on his final question, his powerful copper gaze settled back on Caci. A wide grin grew at the mention of the nest. Ah yes. That was something Artichoke very much looked forward to as well. Caci’s nest-making skills were top notch and this nest looked to be one of her best, certainly fit for cats as important and refined as themselves. “The nights aren’t at their coldest yet. We’ll be plenty warm enough tonight with the two of us.” Artichoke emitted heat like a miniature sun in the winter, and ever since sharing a nest with Caci he very rarely found himself too cold. “After everything we’ve done today, I think we’ve earned ourselves an easy afternoon. After all, it doesn’t pay to overwork ourselves when we’ve only just arrived, am I right?” He lifted his head proudly when she mentioned the safety of their new territory. “Yes. Though it is rich and spacious, and may be coveted by less fortunate creatures~ in our capable paws, we will be able to protect it well. A part of the reason I liked this section of land was the advantageous terrain,” Artichoke rambled with knowing nods, his eyes closed as he recollected some trees, hills and barriers that would prove as useful in the case of an attack. “It will most certainly be safe enough for…” Artichoke stopped and suddenly opened his eyes, meeting Caci’s steady gaze with vague confusion. “kits..?” (Ooh. That sounds awesome! My sister has something like that in her backyard. Just a platform in a tree and some wood blocks screwed into the trunk.) (I’ll try to do some brainstorming as well as we go. ;3) (Aw yeah. Artichoke would most certainly love having an obstacle course to entertain/distract/train the kits. He’d be like: “Aw yeah~ adding this to the track will keep them busy for a while. Heheheheh.” ) —— WonderLocation: Barn With: Alice and Binx ( Myst and Feathertalon ) Wonder was happy to let Alice answer the questions. She didn’t at all mind hanging out with other cats when Alice was present. Alice always knew what to say and how to keep things going smoothly. As long as Wonder didn’t do anything too crazy and didn’t speak out very much, she wouldn’t end up causing too much embarrassment. At least that was the hope. Wonder peered at her sister as she answered the visitor’s questions. Her older sister was talented at so many things. If she could even be just a little bit like Alice someday, surely everything would be so much easier. Maybe she could pick up a thing or two if she concentrated more on how Alice interacted with the cats around her. Binx still seemed to be somewhat tense. Wonder hoped that her presence wasn’t crowding the poor black molly. She had been quite overwhelmed when she had first came to the barn. In the beginning, spending time alone with Alice seemed to be the only thing that could bring her back to her senses. A small shiver rippled through her pelt at the thought~ or perhaps it was from the slight breeze coming from the door of the barn. Wonder glanced down to the doorway and her ears stood up straight at the sight of Bo. Her eyes gleamed happily as she watched him cross the barn checking here and there. She always felt much safer in the presence of the gentle giant. She flinched a little at Alice’s description of Bo ripping the hide of a coyote and glanced timidly at her big sister. Coyotes were terrible creatures that could kill cats with a single bite, but Alice’s description of what happened sounded so… vicious. Perhaps such measures were necessary to get rid of the beast, but she couldn’t help but feel bad for it. It must be awfully painful to have one’s fur ripped out. Wonder cringed at the thought. No… She mustn’t dwell on it. And she couldn’t hold it against her dog friends. It was thanks to their efforts that the farm was a safe place, free from all those frightening creatures who wandered about the wild. Wonder’s ears had flattened during her previous thought process, but now they once more rose as Alice went on to describe the dogs. She flinched with a small jump when Alice spoke her name, her green eyes meeting her own. She opened her jaws, closed them, then opened them again, almost looking like a fish out of water. “Uhhh- Ummm. Well uh. Spark. We are talking about Spark right?” Her mind had blanked in her initial shock. Her pelt warmed increasingly in accordance with the time she took hesitating. She lifted a paw and tilted her head so she could bat gently at her own ear. Then the young molly shook her head a few solid shakes. “Ahah, sorry about that.” Her ears tilted slightly back as she glanced at Binx, her eyes meeting the molly’s orange gaze. But if she ever noticed any discomfort, she would avert her gaze downward. “Spark gets to go into the farmer’s den often, and I used to see him around most nights as a kit. He would get all cleaned up for the competitions Alice mentioned, and would go away from the farm with the farmer for a while. Sometimes he’d tell me stories of these competitions. Like herding sheep and getting awarded if he could control them better than the other dogs. Or sometimes he’d mention having to go through a some sort of trail filled with obstacles~ he has to do that one as fast as he can.” Wonder chirred softly as she thought of how Spark used to tell her those things. As she spoke, her ears had lifted back to a comfortable position. “He came from a family of sheep-herding dogs. Did you know that?” The young calico looked up at Alice with bright eyes at her last question. It really felt great to talk about something she actually knew the answers to. (Totally! ^^)
