Do you think Squirrelflight will actually, legitimately become Squirrelstar?
I'm....on the fence about it. The way Shadow ends before she and Bramble go to the Moonpool just feels...ominous. The blurbs for Thunder and Wind make no mention of ThunderClan's leadership, so it leads me to believe that either yeah, Squirrelstar happens as expected, or something else happens that they're keeping quiet about. If she does actually become leader though, I honestly can't see her leadership lasting past ASC.
That's what I think, anyways. How high of a chance do you guys think Squirrelstar has of happening?

I'm really hoping either she decides she just wants to retire with Bramblestar instead and passes the torch to someone else, or StarClan rejects her like they did with Nightstar and Owlnose and she retires that way. It could go either way, though it's definitely strange that the leadership isn't mentioned at all? Like no mention of a "new ThunderClan leader" in the slightest. I'm hoping it's not just glossed over.

Honestly, I don't really care either way at this point, tbh, but if I absolutely had to choose a side, I'd much prefer it if she just retired alongside Bramblestar.

I had a strangely ominous feeling at the end of Shadow as well and even a rather off-putting (for me) thought of "What if BrambleSquirrel go to the Moonpool but don't come back and a patrol or the medicine cats later on find their corpses lying near it?". I'm sure hoping this will not be the case though (was in a dark mood that day due to some personal stuff).
Because I would much rather see both of them rest in the elders' den at this point and have a younger leader take charge in ThunderClan (Ivypool to be more precise).
As for Squirrelflight actually becoming leader, I thought she still had a good chance/it was likely until the recent blurb for Wind spoiled a lot of stuff as to what happened in Thunder except for ThunderClan's leadership. But I guess this doesn't have to necessarily many anything and they just did not want to spoil that specifically. Things could still go either way, I suppose.
Still would rather see someone else become leader but would not be mad if Squirrelstar happens (because I love her character). It's just that she's already been through hell and back (literally, just like Bramblestar). And I'd much rather would want to see her retire instead.

My new theory is that she does become leader but ends up retiring at the end of the arc (1) to join Bramble in the elder’s den, and (2) in order to allow the next generation to take over. So books 4-6 will be about training up a deputy.

I think it is definitely likely. However, it would be cool to see Squirrelflight either retire or die leaving Bramblestar to somehow be forced get past or cope with his PTSD and train up a new deputy. It would be cool to see Bramblestar recover get his mojo back.
However, I would be just as happy with Squirrel becoming the leader long enough to train up a solid deputy.
