I think Shadow was a good book. In the early chapters I found it hard to read the Nightheart and Sunbeam romance due to it happening so fast. Later on though, with more development on both ends, it was a good read. I loved that Nightheart was aware that Berryheart did not like outsiders but he stayed anyway. Berryheart should keep her business to herself. To be honest, why did Tigerstar choose Berryheart to make up the three tasks? She's the worst cat to choose. I was convinced that Berryheart was doing more than talking to Splashtail about getting Tigerstar and his warriors out of RiverClan. About Reedwhisker's murder, I suspected Duskfur recently, but she was in camp when it happened. I'm half-convinced that Splashtail almost certainly is the one who did it. I think he is also the one who tried to kill Frostpaw. I agree with the way Nightheart went about failing his third task. There wasn't an easy way out without embarrassing Sunbeam. With Bramblestar stepping down, I don't know what to think. I don't think Squirrelflight should be the new leader for ThunderClan. Berryheart's hatred of outsiders has corrupted her so much that she'll retort to anything to keep cats outside ShadowClan away. Sunbeam being angry and turning around and being like "nothing happened, everything is fine" and going to ThunderClan seemed pretty sketchy.

What would be Splashtail's motives? He didn't step up to be the leader when the Clan felt it was in need of one, nor did he act like he wished to be one at all. It's obvious he wants Frostpaw to go back to being a medicine cat and that he doesn't want ShadowClan butting into his Clan's business, but why would he have killed Reedwhisker in the first place? I can't think of a motive for him simply due to how he didn't jump at the chance to be RiverClan's leader. He mostly supports the cats who he thinks should be the leader, which are cats who disagree the most with Tigerstar's antics.
I strongly believe he killed him as well but I can't discern why he would do that and then not wish to lead the Clan. I also don't understand why he'd kill Frostpaw. He's frustrated with her for not being a medicine cat apprentice but I'm not sure why he'd assassinate her. My only guess is that he'd be attempting to try bringing her close to StarClan in the hopes that she'll meet with them, realize she has a connection, and come back to be RiverClan's medicine cat apprentice. That would be something that would require pure luck and hope that he wouldn't actually kill her for good.
He just seems disinterested in solely being the Clan's leader. It seems like there'd have to be another motive.

I liked the way NightxSun was being developed too. It's surprisingly not a bad romance.
