As the course of Warriors has gone on, one of the most notable villains in the series seems to get worse and worse with every passing entry.
Reflecting on the first series, there are many holes in his logic, not to mention the plot. Now that we have expansions and tales based on characters around him, they want to show he is evil but failed to remember that his betrayal was meant to shake ThunderClan to the core.
To fix these plot holes and make him a better-written character, how would you "fix" Tigerstar?
I would have made sure he was manipulative from the start, knowing when to act violent and ambitious and when to act like a loyal warrior. He would not have attacked Tiny/Scourge, as there was a witness to see him break the code. If he did, pin it on his mentor and thus throw Thistleclaw under the bus.
He also would not have pushed the debt on Redtail as much, being more of a manipulator than just hounding it into Redtail. It's poor writing on Redtail's part not to warn Bluestar. Tigerstar could have taken the opportunity to ensure Redtail was wounded enough to make it believable that he died in battle with Oakheart, not so much as Oakheart killing him.
Oakheart's death would still be confirmed from a rockfall, but Tigerstar would frame it as he was battling Oakheart and the rocks fell. (Which would be a partial lie that Mistyfoot would expose.)
I think Tigerstar taking a life from Bluestar instead of one of hers being taken by greencough and maybe another character being killed by Tigerstar would have added more shock.
Perhaps instead of Sasha as a mate, he could have taken a RiverClan she-cat as a mate to maybe strengthen "TigerClan" as a whole, resulting in Mothwing and Hawkfrost dealing with his legacy all the same. It seemed very weird that he went around prosecuting half-Clan cats and had some himself. Yes, he makes the rules apply to others, but if he was truly smart, he wouldn't have opened himself up for ridicule in the way he did.

Tigerstar taking another mate has always been so interesting to me but I couldn't agree more that I think him becoming mates with a (former?) kittypet is so wildly out of character. Instead I think he should have become close to a Shadowclan or Riverclan warrior, and maybe unbeknownst to him said warrior used to be a kittypet. Then when that information is revealed to Tigerstar he isn't happy about it. It's just so weird to me that he would be okay with being in a relationship with any cat not born within the clans.

Super interesting! Never thought of him having a RiverClan mate besides Leopardstar!

Yeah, it really made him feel hypocritical more than anything else. Which we know he would use the code in his favor if he could, but that was.. interesting.

Pretty sure Tigerstar taking a former kittypet as a mate and having half-Clan kits with her was just simply supposed to showcase/illustrate his hypocrisy in regards to his hatred of kittypets (and outsiders like rogues as well in general but him having no qualms to use them for his own gain when it suited him like during the planned attack on ThunderClan with "his" rogues). There was a point to it, in my opinion. Even though I still also do think they could've just made Leopardstar be the mother of his second litter of kits instead and did not need to create a whole other character and storyline for it with Sasha (no hate to her though).
He was basically a "the/my rules apply to everyone else but me" type of guy (just like his namesake grandson is currently a "my way or the highway" type of leader). This is the same cat that said "All traitors deserve to die!" after all (to Lionblaze in Long Shadows, page 50). He was incredibly delusional, like a lot of villains tend to be.

i dont really have any improvements to his character but i wish that he'd mentioned pinestar more often. also id like to mention i never really thought of him as the best villain or really a good villain at all. weak motives, boring backstory, didnt do the "is evil because of the people who influenced him in childhood" trope that great and brokenstar did it better. i was in the fandom before i started reading the books and everyone hyping up tigerstar made me so excited to finally read tpb and when i got round to it? disappointed. his character was super underwhelming

I wish that we'd seen more of how Thistleclaw influenced him as an apprentice, but for his character I'd probably make him more serial-killer-y, and honestly just make him more of a psychotic villain in general. I'd also make him have directly killed more cats in TPB just to make him more of a threat

I honestly did think it was odd how he took Sasha as a mate. I don't think it ruined his character. At the time, it added some allure to it. But his relationship with her only seemed to exist to create Hawkfrost and Mothwing and for a fluffy little comic series.
