Prologue:
(DiamondScales)
DiamondScales sliced soundlessly through the rainforest, stalking her prey.
“Ack!” Her prey said as she pounced
“Hah” The prey panted “Get off of me DiamondScales!” She panted
“Haha! Only if you admit I’m da bounciest and most amazing hunter ever!”
“Fine! Fineeeee!” She yelped
“Say it” Cale grinned
“Alrighhtt! You are the bounciest and most amazing hunter ever.” She said quickly “Happy now?”
“No, but ok.” Cale smirked
“GIRLS!” Their mother called
“IT IS IMPORTANT! QUEEN WATERMELON NEEDS TO SEE YOU!”
Cale and Night rushed over to their mother, who was standing outside the palace.
“Good morning.” Night dipped her head and bowed to the queen.
“Hi! Your Majesty!” Cale nodded her head quickly.
“I have chosen you two, to come to my friend’s academy.”
“Woo hoo!” Cale said under her breath
“You will leave to go there tomorrow, with the other Rainwings and Nightwings”. So excited!!!!!! DiamondScales thought ecstatically. “Woah really?????!!!! That’s sooooo cool!!!”
Watermelon smiled and nodded
“Isn’t this great, Night?”
“Of course it is little sparkling gemstone”
“Huh?!” She exclaimed
“Hah my new nickname for you.” Night grinned
“Well YOUUUUU’LL need to get less shaky around OTHER people!” Cale countered
“I know” She sighed back.
“I’ll try”
Chapter 1:
(Dewdrop)
Dewdrops wings felt like rocks where holding her down, the rain pattering on her head making it harder to fly. “Almost there” Dew said under her breath. As soon as Dewdrop saw Light Mountain Academy she collapsed on the floor. “Don’t worry I won’t tell anyone” Said Ink.
“Tell them what?” Dew asked flopping over on her back.
“That you’re a horrible lander” Ink smirked then grabbed Dew’s talons and brought her to the hybrids cave. Once Dew walked to her cold mossy bed. She one second later closed her eyes and fell into a ‘GOOD’ sleep.
Dewdrop’s talons scraped against the hard floor, her eyes locked on the flames that was right in front of her eyes, she took a step back and the flames followed her. She started walking backwards very quickly and the flame opened red burning eyes with ashes as the pupils. It started swallowing up dragonets from Flash Winglet and Sun Winglet. Dewdrop winced at she saw the flames munching and then swallowing Ink, blood dripping down before bursting into flames in a bloody mess. Dewdrop looked around and saw wings chewed off and on fire turning to ashes. Dewdrop tripped over the bell which made a loud ’CLANG’. The Flames turned toward her, stuffing Wake’s head into its mouth. A second later Dewdrop heard a scream coming from somewhere. “Dew!!!” The ground under her talons shook. Her heart pounded, What was happening? And who knew what her name was? It sounded like Ink. Dew loved saying Ink’s name, Ink makes her feel safe and warm, but WHY was Ink in her SUPER-AMAZING-HEROIC-DREAM where she BEATS THE BAD GUYS!?!? “DEW!!” She felt her chest have a slight tug, did the flame dudes shoot an ARROW AT HER!?! She turned her head on side then the other, why do I feel… more… dizzzzzzzy…? Suddenly Dewdrop opened her eyes.
Chapter 2:
(Ink)
Oh! I’d better wake Dew up! She’s always a late riser Ink thought, laughing silently. She prodded over to Dewdrop’s mossy ice bed. “Dew!!!” She prodded Dewdrop with her talons.”DEW!”
“I’m up!” She said, promptly sitting up. She blinked sleepily at Ink with affection in her eyes. “Come ON you lazy lump!” Ink teased. ”Our winglets have a library lesson from Rusty. RIGHT NOW!” She exclaimed, not joking this time. The hybrids shared a few caves because the other dragons weren’t too comfortable about them but it might change in the future. The second gong rang. Dewdrop glanced at Ink and they both dashed to the library. ”…The library” was all they caught when they got there. We’re late. Ink thought miserably.
“Oh is the rest of your winglet with you, Ink?” Rusty asked, clearly showing that he didn’t approve of Ink
“No? I thought the Sun winglet was already here!” She told him. He shot her another disapproving glance then wrinkled his nose. “You’d better find them then.” Rusty gazed haughtily at Dewdrop “You too.” He said, voice dripping with scorn.
So it’s all hybrids he doesn’t like! Hmf! It’s not like we could choose! Also I get the best of Nightwing and Seawing this way! I can breathe underwater and breathe fire! Not underwater though… “Ok.” Dew’s reply snapped her back into reality. They padded, without speaking, out of the library and towards the cave with a sign painted on it saying SUN WING ET as if the L had been scraped off. Ink squinted and saw claw marks where the L was supposed to be. She shrugged. As they walked through the entrance rocks showered down onto them, trapping them inside. They could hear Shine whimpering “It’s dark down here!”
“Cold too!” Patches added, hearing a shiver in his voice. Ink saw Dew treading away and followed her. Dewdrop peeked into a crack in the rocks ahead and saw all of the rest of her winglet there. All the seven tribes were there. Sapphire was laying in a pool of water, Hight was pacing his rocky bed, Patches was pressed up against Shine, both of them shivering, Hare was trying to start a fire to keep them warm, Paincaller was laying in his downy feathered bed and his claws were flailing around, slashing the air, in his sleep. and Frozenheart was grumbling “I don’t see why you’re complaining. It’s the PERFECT temperature in here!”
“I don’t see how you stand it! Even though you’re a uh Coldwing?” Shine queried
“I think she’s an Icewing, Shine” Patches answered quietly.
“Oh.” She looked a little deflated. “I hoped that Coldwings were real” He nudged her softly
“Hey, you never know, they might be.” Ink felt it was a little wrong to interrupt on their little conversation. She had figured out by now that they were pretty close, that they may even like-like each other, but she couldn’t assume anything. A few golden brown pebbles fell onto her head and she glanced at Dew. She was scanning the rocks for something. An opening? Before she could say anything Dewdrop stuck her snout through a small gap in the rocks. ”Hi? I’m Dew and this is the hybrid of your winglet, Ink.”
“Can you get us out of here?!” Squeaked Shine and Patches at the exact same time. “We can try!” Dewdrop called back. Ink tugged at one of the larger rocks at the bottom and fell over backwards with an “Oof!” She placed her talons on the rocks again a sighed quietly “I wish this rock were lighter!” Then she tugged at it again. It came out! It felt as light as a feather. Was that a…
“Ink!!!!” Was the last thing she heard before the rocks fell on her.
Chapter 3:
(Captain)
“You must have brought a lot of sand on your trail here! No wonder your scales are yellow!” Said FirePoison,
“Yeah! Your scales would look better if they were black!” RaggedStone said, while walking over the top of Captain's tail.
Captain flicked her tail so hard that RaggedStone tripped over it, trying to avoid the barb.
“Yeah! Your life would be so much better if you weren’t so clumsy!” Captain copied.
Chapter 4:
(Dewdrop)
Dew was tossing in her mossy nest. She couldn’t sleep. Her mind was buzzing with questions. Will Ink be ok? How were the rocks so light? Wasn’t it hard for her to pull the rocks out until she muttered something? Does she have magic? Is there something she wasn’t telling me? When will she be ok? Am I allowed to go to the infirmary to see her? Dew sighed. I think that I need to go to see her or I’ll never get any sleep. Dewdrop padded tentatively towards the Infirmary, careful not to wake NightSprite. She had been up late, trying to teach DiamondScales how to read. It hadn’t worked, of course. DiamondScales just pounced on her and practised hunting for the most the night. It was nearly sunrise. The teachers luck was just the same. The healer, Mango the RainWing, was probably awake already, checking on Patches and Ink. Patches got a nasty cut from a sharp rock.
