Shadecreek - with Pebblepaw - bluewonderShadecreek saw his apprentice’s effort from the corner of his eye as he pulled in a small fish. “Aww too bad, but good effort. You got it to ripple, which was good. Try again, remember to use your tail! It helps telling your brain where you want the wave to go,” the older tom encouraged. He gave another demonstration and made sure to emphasize his tail movement. He didn’t bother catching a fish in the process. Once the wave settled he nodded again to Pebblepaw for him to try. “And remember, relax. This is just practice and it’s your first time doing this. I’m not expecting perfection, okay?”

Patchpaw brightened at the mention of his mother, Frecklecloud. She was a gentle mother, and he couldn't wait to report back to her about whatever they did today. "Okay, great!" He mewed. He glanced around, surveying the landscape, but didn't see any signs of prey on the rolling hills. Not to be dissuaded, he opened his mouth, breathing in the smells around him. He picked up the faint trace of rabbit, off to the right. Rabbit was his favorite prey to try for- it's speed ignited something primal in the air-elemental tom. If they were stealthy, they could follow it's trail and locate it, and from there they could track it down. Angling his ears towards the smell to inform Greenthorn of his intentions, he began to inch forward. Mouth still opened, he continued to creep forward until he crested a hill, seeing the twitch of brown furry ears at the hill's base. There. Keeping his ears low and his tail to the ground, Patchpaw gave one glance to his mentor for confirmation that he should go for it.
Shadecreek's positive affirmation was perhaps the best feedback for young Pebblepaw, but even that didn't change his general sour attitude. Stupid, I'll never get it right! He gave another sigh and resituated himself on the shoreline, flicking his tail out beside him as a physical reminder to use it when it became time. Once more, he concentrated on the water, focusing on a single spot. As ripples began to build, Pebblepaw began to move his tail in a flicking motion, beckoning the water forward. The ripples continued to swirl for a moment, before slowly, but surely, moving forward in a medium sized wave. It was choppy, contained no fish, and he lost the direction from time to time, but he had produced the desired effect. He let out a small laugh of amazement and relief, his eyes brightening. "Hey, I did it!" He mewed.
Alone Waspfang patted dirt over his most recent kill, feeling very proud and self-important. Since they dispersed, he had managed to track down two moles by smelling them through the ground, and had dispatched them quickly and efficiently. His spider totem glowed around his neck from where his powerstone was illuminated by its use. He wasn't sure how the other groups were faring, but he was certain that even though he was hunting solo, he would be doing better than either of them. He took a deep breath, inhaling the scents once more to look for more prey, when something else caught in his nose. An earthy, musky scent... more sour than that of the moles he had killed, not as gamey as a rabbit. He stood, confused for a moment, trying to identify the smell.

Greenthorn made sure to follow at a distance, keeping his body low as to not disturb the rabbit. He was proud of how his nephews were coming along in their training. At the young tom's glance, Greenthorn nodded to him, wanting him to do it on his own, though ready to hope in if the need arised.

Shadecreek - with Pebblepaw - bluewonder “Hey, look at that! Way to go! That was really good,” Shadecreek beamed with pride, nudging his apprentice on the shoulder, “A little choppy, but a perfect start. Take a little rest to get you energy up and we’ll try again. Want me to teach you how to fish like the other cats?” Shadecreek was not one to push a cat as young as Pebblepaw past his limit. He knew from experience that a first wave can take a lot out of a cat and though he didn’t know how his apprentice’s energy level was, but he wasn’t about to over work him.

Owlfoot Returning to camp, with Mothdapple Dark Owlfoot padded into camp carrying two mice in his jaws, he had woken up early as he did most mornings and decided to go on a hunt by himself. Owlfoot was happy enough with his haul, and dropped the two mice on the fresh-kill pile. He was hungry himself, but, even though it was greenleaf and prey was plentiful, he refrained from taking prey for himself until more of the hunting patrols had returned. He noticed Mothdapple in the clearing and flicked his tail in greeting. Mothdapple w/ Owlfoot- 🐦silvermoon2🐦The tom rolled his shoulders in a shrug. "I'm sure we'll have plenty of prey, considering the number of cats who went out hunting. If the pile still looks pitiful after they come back, then I'll go out as well," he replied. He reflected on his word choice and decided that 'pitiful' was probably not the best word to use, but he shook it off. "I might also see if I can help around camp in any way."

Patchpaw readied himself to launch after the rabbit, but couldn't help a quick excited wriggle of his hindquarters before his attack. That was enough to alert the rabbit, who immediately started bounding away, towards a mound in the ground that must be it's burrow. Patchpaw, however, rushed after the rabbit with a burst of speed that more likely was attributed to his general energetic nature than even his natural air-elemental quickness. Just before the rabbit made it to the burrow, Patchpaw gave a mighty leap, landing on it with outstretched claws. He killed it with a quick nip. "It nearly made it, but I got it!" He chirped happily back to his uncle. "I can't wait to show Frecklecloud. This thing is huge, isn't it?" The rabbit was a regular size, but compared to Patchpaw's still growing body, it did seem a bit on the larger side.
Pebblepaw beamed, appreciative of the prey. His usual grumpy nature had melted away for the time being, and he couldn't wait to bring the news back to his brother about his accomplishment. If he could manage to catch a fish, then that would be even better. Surely that wouldn't be anything for Thistlestar or anyone else to turn up their noses at. Perhaps if he was stronger with his powers, they both would have a decent catch of fish by now, but in this moment, it was enough to just be able to accomplish the task Shadecreek gave him. "Sure, that sounds good." Pebblepaw replied, more enthusiastically this time. He twitched his whiskers as he sat down by the pond once more, preparing for his mentor's lesson. His enthusiasm abated slightly... something felt off. He twitched his whiskers, drawing in the scents around him. There was a new smell in the air, close enough to overpower the fish-smell of the pond. He curled up his nose in disgust. "Yuck, what is that?" Pebblepaw complained. He personally didn't care for the smell or taste of fish either, but at least understood it's appeal to his clanmates. But this was different. Earthy, and musty. Was there an earth elemental here? He stared over at his mentor, uncertain what to make of it- it was a smell he was certain he hadn't encountered before.
Lizardeye continued, figuring Thistlestar wouldn't dare reprimand a warrior for speaking with a respected elder. She closed her eyes for a moment, enjoying the warmth of the greenleaf sun on her old bones before speaking. "Now it's your turn to tell me something." She mewed, looking at Mossyleap with her bright amber eyes. "Your totem. It's a bird, isn't it?" She reached a paw out and gently caressed the small wooden icon hanging from Mossyleap's neck. "Totems are so important to our clan. They connect us with Starclan, you know. They're proof that Starclan not only watches over us, but knows our futures and our deepest desires. Through it we channel our powers, but through them we also see a reflection of our own hearts." She smiled and looked down at her own totem, a beetle. "You know, when I was recieving my totem, everyone thought I would get a bird, or a lizard, or something similar. Something more fitting for a.... troublemaker, I guess you could say. But then they gave me the beetle." Her eyes darkened for a moment. "I didn't understand it until I became a mother, and I realized what being a protector meant. I realized that in my own way, I had been protecting my clan throughout my life. Sometimes through claw, but mostly through words. And when I had Blacksong... I felt that fierce motherly protection become my identity. When we lost her, we lost everything. Until I saw Dapplesky, just a tiny kit in need of a mother, and filled that role once more." She brightened again and looked at Mossyleap inquisitively. "So I suppose my question is, how do you feel about your totem? What does it mean to you?" Her voice lowered mischievously, "And do you suppose Starclan might have a great adventure or life planned for you because of it? Because with a totem as freeing as the bird, I might would think so!"
Dapplesky nodded, happy to have a small group of relatively like-minded she-cats. She led the way out of camp, heading towards the Willowclan border. "With any luck, this will be just a quick border run." She called back to the two cats following her. "From yesterday's reports, it seems like Willowclan is enforcing the border between the Rolling Hills and their Boneyard, but haven't been trying to fight to reclaim any of the territory we took from them."
(Junospower, annnndd cue elemental badger! lol! I figure after the fight starts, the other members of the patrol will hear and head that way, and Dapplesky's patrol might hear it too since they're naturally going that direction too. But let's get it started with our lil water elementals at the pond. Seems like a good place for a mama badger to nest, with a source of water nearby for her cubs. )

( Sand Hollyfeather is open in the med den if you want Cedarstorm to interact with her!) (Sand and Dark - So, considering Cedarstorm and Hollyfeather are somewhat similar in age, I was thinking canonically maybe there was a med cat who died not too long ago and both of them were that med cat's apprentice. Cedarstorm, being older and apprenticed for longer, took the official med cat position, but training wise he and hollyfeather aren't that dissimilar. Andddd maybe it's a bit awkward now bc he is now her superior, whereas before they were equals? Just a thought lol, literally yall know yalls characters, do what is natural for them. Also, whatever med cat apprentice we get last to round out the three I wrote that I'd like it to be officially a 'paw still, like less than 12 moons. So if we ever get another med cat apprentice it'll be a younger cat. )

Mossyleap w/ Lizardeye- bluewonderMossyleap listened intently to what the molly was sharing with her and nodded along. She understood most of what the elder was saying, about how her totem connected her to Starclan. She believed the totems could connect her clanmates together as well, especially if they had an equal spread of different totems around the clan. It could create harmony of some sort, diversity in a way. When Lizardeye was done speaking, Mossyleap thought for a moment. What did her totem mean to her? The she-cat's whiskers twitched. "I agree with what you said, Lizardeye. But what my totem means to me... I'm not sure yet, to be honest," she said truthfully. "I guess it reflects our personalities in a way."

Shadecreek - with Pebblepaw - bluewonder Shadecreek gave the air a sniff and immediately felt his heart sank to the pit of his stomach. “Oh foxdung…” Badger. There was no mistaking it. Normal a badger wouldn’t be too much of an issue having his clan mates at his side to help drive it out, but he was alone with his barely trained apprentice. And from what he could smell, there was something…off with it. Much, much more earthy than a regular badger scent. The creature lumbered over the hill, heading straight for them. He scanned the area, looking for somewhere Pebblepaw could be safe. He spotted a bush close to the water’s edge. That’ll have to do. Quickly he turned to his apprentice. “Stay behind that bush over there and do not attack it directly. Stay as far away as you can, hide if you need to and use the water to attack it. Do not attack directly, do you understand?” Shadecreek hissed desperately to Pebblepaw and without waiting for a response, charged forward. “Over here you great brute!” he screeched, try to pull the badger’s attention towards him and not at his young apprentice. He drew water from the damp earth beneath him and created a tendril to whip at the intruding animal as he continued to run at it. (Let’s do this! I’m excited! I figured Shadecreek is going to take a bit of a beating since one cat can’t take on a badger by himself until the others come in)

Cedarstorm medicine cat den — accompanied by: Hollyfeather As the sunlight shone into the entrance of the medicine cat den, Cedarstorm padded inside. His pawsteps were quiet and soft against the smooth floor. He had left the den earlier to retrieve some moss from the camp's grounds. He knew that the herb storage of moss has gotten low which surprised the tom. It was unusual that he and Hollyfeather had forgotten it. After all, finding it was easier than most herbs. The lush green plant hung from his jaws before Cedarstorm dropped it on the cave's floor. "Morning Hollyfeather," he greeted quickly before picking up the moss.
He made his way over to the she-cat, carrying the plant tightly in his maw. "How did you sleep?" he asked in a muffled voice. The umber tabby placed the moss besides the herb storage, reminding himself to put it in its correct spot later. There were better things to do with his time right now. ( tags: Dark )

Lizardeye nodded. "There's nothing wrong with not knowing for certain what your totem might say about yourself. Like I said, it took me moons to figure out what Starclan had in mind for my destiny, and even then, I tried to rebel against it at times. You have time. Just let your heart guide you, and you'll be alright." The old she-cat gave the younger warrior a comforting stroke on the side with her tail.
(I love Mossyleap's thought on the harmony of the totems, lol, I hadn't even thought of that!) Pebblepaw's eyes widened as he saw the badger for the first time. He had never encountered this creature before, and only knew what it was from the nursery tales he used to hear as a kit. The great black and white brute came lumbering towards Shadecreek as his mentor pushed him aside towards the aforementioned bush, and feeling in full flight-mode, Pebblepaw found himself allowing Shadecreek to herd him to safety. As soon as he was within cover, Shadecreek had turned to run towards the badger full speed. He watched in fear and shock as his mentor called upon his elemental power, striking at the badger with razor-sharp water whips. The creature roared in outrage, cuts appearing on it's body from the slices of water, but did not slow. With a great huff of fury, the creature reared up onto it's hindpaws in a terribly intimidating display before slamming its mighty fore-paws into the ground. Cracks shattered the earth around the badger's paws and shot out towards Shadecreek, threatening to unbalance him or perhaps twist an ankle. By the ancients, that's an earth elemental! Pebblepaw realized, stunned. It was rare for animals other than cats to receive the blessing of elemental powers. He willed himself to use his powers, to help his mentor in the fight, but he was frozen, unable to think of what he could do to help.
(oh no! Not our lil shade boy!! xD I'm so excited to RP some powers, but Pebble boy gonna be a lil statue for a moment lol )

Shadecreek - fighting a badger - bluewonder The moment happened so fast. One second he was charging forward, the next he was almost stumbling around, trying to keep his balance as cracks in the earth formed around him and caused him to fall harshly on his side. He stayed there, dazed for only a moment. Did that badger cause that earthquake? StarClan no, this badger is an elemental! Shadecreek checked over his shoulder, Pebblepaw was still under the bush. Good. Shadecreek picked himself up and again charged forward, managing to clamp his jaws around the beast’s forepaw while he continued to assault it with water whips. He knew he shouldn’t be wasting precious energy on using his element, but he had no other choice. His only priority was keeping the badger away from Pebblepaw and buy themselves time until the rest of the patrol finds them. (poor shady’s gonna take a beating, but he will protect the child gosh darn it!)

Cedarstorm medicine cat den — accompanied by: Hollyfeather Being the eldest medicine cat by only twelve moons, Cedarstorm found his dynamic with Hollyfeather to be awkward. He wasn't completely sure how to navigate their work relationship. He much preferred when the two were equals, but that was no longer the case. Their former mentor's death left him perplexed, mostly because of how he and Hollyfeather would work together. Maybe their ages played a role, although he was skeptical of that. If it were really an issue of age, then he was a fool.
There was one thing of Hollyfeather that the tabby had always liked; her cheerfulness. As long as she wasn't going to be a heavy anchor he'd lug around, he knew he could make this work. "Mostly well thankfully," Cedarstorm responded.
When she commented about the moss, he nodded back. "Sure, go ahead. By the way, do you know if we are missing any herbs? It might be time for us to refill the storage soon," he meowed, glancing at their herb storage briefly. ( tags: Dark )

Mothdapple w/ Owlfoot- 🐦silvermoon2🐦 Mothdapple nodded at Owlfoot’s response. “I know you just went hunting, but you’re welcome to come with me,” he suggested. Although he appreciated his alone time, he would prefer to have company today, especially with a fellow senior warrior. He also wouldn’t mind spending the day with Owlfoot, who was a well respected warrior. Hollyfeather w/ Cedarstorm- Sand The molly gently grabbed the moss in her jaws and placed it where it should go, frowning at the meager supply they had. She faced Cedarstorm and nodded in response to his question. “I was just about to go collect some more herbs, it looks like we’re down on mostly everything, though we do have a good amount of poppy seeds and cobweb. We definitely need chervil, and basically everything else we could have more of,” she meowed. Though there wasn’t a decent gap in their ages, Hollyfeather ignored that fact. She preferred to act like everything was normal, and, to her, it was.
