physics 1 lecture and lab x-x the lecture part is online but i have to be on campus for the lab once a week. usually lab is easy for me, but i swear this professor is asking way too much for each lab report, like to do them right it takes 3-4 hours also, i said it before and i'll say it again, i love Fernpaw and her thinking about how floofy Icetail's tail is makes me so happy and i hope icetail's implied crush on frost is okay |D Icetail »
On a normal day Icetail’s sharp sight would have caught the way that Fernpaw was looking at him, specifically his tail. This would have sprouted some annoyance from the white tom, but he was running off of fumes right now, barely able to keep himself from falling asleep on his paws let alone be able to notice exactly where an apprentice was looking. At this point in time the guard cared little about his shockingly white pelt and his extremely plumy tail - which were both two very annoying qualities to have. His white pelt had been a subject of contention when he had first decided to try out for the night guard - how could a solid white cat effectively hide in the darkness of the night? And while his tail had not been much of an issue with that, it was certainly an issue on the matter of keeping it clean and tidy.
Fernpaw’s voice snapped him back to reality. No longer going on a mental tangent about his appearance, he focused back in on the other two cats that had been treated before Oakshade and he had. Some weight loosened from his shoulders as relief swept through him when Fernpaw filled him in on Bearpaw. ”Good,” he murmured more to himself than the spotted apprentice standing before him. Icetail was certain that Honeystream was beyond worried for her daughter, and was it not for the fact that Dimstar had told the warriors of the Clan to give the guard some space right now, he was sure his littermate would be begging to see Bearpaw and to make sure that she was alright. The black apprentice’s scarring and potential hearing loss was bound to worry Honeystream, and perhaps even Beesnap - Beesnap’s mother as well, but Icetail knew that receiving those types of wounds was a blessing. It could have been worse. A lot worse.
A twitch of his tail was the only indication that he felt something other than relief when hearing about Frostfalcon’s injuries. He was relieved to hear that she was alive and not on the brink of death, but her having a broken leg… That still worried the tom.
”I’d say most of the injuries are concentrated on my flanks,” he answered Fernpaw as he followed her into the medicine cat den. Injuries dotted his face and along his limbs as well, but most of those had been caused due to blindly trying to get away and running into a patch of briars here and there. They stung, but they were shallow wounds. Even the ones on his flanks where he was sure he had been nipped by the creature a few times weren’t deep. The stung if he moved too quickly or turned a certain way, but nothing was life threatening. In fact, he was almost confident enough to say that he’d be given the clear to report back on patrols after a good long rest, but he wouldn’t speak those words aloud just yet, not until he was medically cleared.
Pebblepool »
Having been a medicine cat for some seasons now, Pebblepool had predicted the first questions Oakshade was going to ask. It was always the same; when multiple cats got injured together, the current cat Pebblepool was working on would be asking about the others rather than themselves. The blue-gray molly couldn’t count how many times that exact scenario had played out, whereas she could easily count how many times that hadn’t happened. Knowing what the tom was going to ask, Pebblepool already had the answers prepared and ready. ”Both will make it. Bearpaw had some shock and a nasty injury to her head, but she’ll be fine. Some heavy scarring and potential hearing loss, but Fernpaw and I will be keeping an eye on any problems. Frostfalcon…” Her words trailed off as she glanced toward the nest her sister was currently sleeping inside. Her tail twitched. Odd to believe that it had only been a few moments ago that her sister was throwing a fit over the idea of being confined to camp for two moons.
A sigh released the tension that Pebblepool had been holding on to. She then continued, ”Frostfalcon has a small break in her leg, which is the worst of her problems. She needs to stay in camp for two moons at least, but she’ll live.” Though Pebblepool wouldn’t be surprised if her littermate’s upcoming annoyance at being in camp would make her act as if she were dying. The medicine cat huffed inwardly - night guards, and warriors too, could be so dramatic when they didn’t get their way.
The molly slowed her steps, sweeping a paw over an empty nest. ”Get settled and let me know if you’re experiencing any pain.” Pebblepool stepped to the side to give Oakshade enough room to settle himself into the nest. Her green eyes narrowed in though, going over a list of what she planned on doing - clean his wounds, apply poultices, then cobweb. She suspected that was all he would need, but she kept her mind open just on the off chance that she discovered something more than just some scrapes and scratches.

[ oh god, that sounds like a pain :/. anything science related + labs sound difficult. why does it take solong to do a lab report? I'd think it would be a shorter amount of time to do one, but the last time I took a science class was biology and it was online lol. Fernpaw's trying to gain some positivity, we know she needs and somehow Icetail's tail gave her that I'm totally good with it o: it's a great idea ] Fernpaw medicine cat den — accompanied by: Icetail To Fernpaw it was clear that Icetail wasn't his usual self. She didn't know much about the tom and how he operated, but he was not in any good shape right now. He may have avoided life threatening injuries, but he looked exhausted and drained. She couldn't blame him for that, Bearpaw was in a similar state earlier and so was Oakshade. However, she felt a bit guilty for making Icetail wait so long when she could have cleaned up his wounds faster than she had done with Bearpaw. The only factor that remained was because Bearpaw received worse injuries that he had.
His gaze almost appeared glassy to the medicine cat apprentice. When he had heard her update on Bearpaw, she could barely hear his response. For a moment, she thought of the apprentice's mothers. What would they think of Bearpaw's state? She hoped they wouldn't be too worried about their kit, but being worrisome over a cat's injuries seemed normal. Her ears pricked up, wondering if he would mention anything about Frostfalcon. All she saw was his tail tip and nothing more. Whatever kind of relationship the tom had with Pebblepool's littermate was slightly intringuing. She wasn't going to pry, but she pondered if both guards were hiding something. Quickly, Fernpaw brushed off the thought and headed into the medicine cat's den.
The grey spotted tabby wanted to watch the white tom as he followed her into the den, but she couldn't really observe him if she was in front of him. She decided she would get a better look once he would sit down. Her left ear tipped to the side, listening to Icetail's reply. "Alright! I can take a look in a moment. Do you have a lot of pain from your wounds?" she mewed, pausing momentarily as they reached an empty nest. "Oh, and you can sit down if you'd like!"
Fernpaw came to a halt, glancing around the empty nest before her gaze made its way to the herb storage. She wouldn't need as many poultices as she did with Bearpaw thankfully. She was sure that Icetail was used to the questions she was asking along with the herbs he would need. He didn't seem so difficult compared to Frostfalcon, although the blue-grey guard was a pawful. Hopefully she could patch his wounds up and then allow the tom to get some rest. Oakshade medicine cat den — accompanied by: Pebblepool It was typical for any cat that was involved in a deadly patrol to ask about the others. Oakshade was no different from that. He was worried about Bearpaw the most, considering she was his apprentice and she had been battered up due to the creature and what may have hit her in the darkness. It was hard to see how she got the injuries she had, but that didn't matter as much as it did before. She was going to live and he was grateful for that. It was no surprise that Pebblepool was prepared for his slew of questions. "Oh, thank StarClan," he mewed, gasping a bit. "I wish I could have taken the blows for Bearpaw, she doesn't need to have such terrible injuries at her age. I know it's part of being a guard, but I hope she will recover well. Honeystream and Beesnap must be worried sick. Do they know anything about Bearpaw's injuries?"
The brown tabby tom's ears pricked up when Pebblepool suddenly went silent after meowing her littermate's name. He knew the two weren't close at all, but it seemed that Frostfalcon was a bit difficult. He'd never speak ill of his patrolmates as he didn't really get to know Frostfalcon that well, even though he was older than her. She always seemed to have her guard up and wasn't exactly the kindness cat in the clan. He glanced at the medicine cat, noticing she was tense. "Good. She got lucky, but I doubt she's pleased about being unable to patrol for two moons," he replied, padding slowly after her. Frostfalcon's already insufferable as is, I can't imagine how Pebblepool will deal with her, he thought briefly.
Once Pebblepool had swept her paw over an empty nest, Oakshade gave her a nod. "I will, don't worry," he told her, settling down in the nest carefully. His flanks had some minor pain due to scarring, but it was nothing he couldn't handle. There were some fresh scars near his chest and one of his front limbs. He felt the urge to lick at his injuries, but the brown ticked tabby knew better. The guard felt partially tempted to make conversation with Pebblepool, but he was unsure if the she-cat would prefer to focus on her duties instead of conversing. Nonetheless, he was going to try. "I assume Icetail and I will be medically cleared after a few days of rest?" he inquired, trying to make some small talk.

[ all my other lab classes have had super easy lab reports - like I just have to write down what I did in the lab and what my results were. This professor wants super detailed charts and graphs and deep mathematical analysis for every lab report and just all these small details that I feel like is irrelevant. It’s super annoying. Since I’m trying to finish up the last few reports before this class ends on the 3rd, my next reply may take a bit, but I’ll get it up as soon as I can!
That’s super cute honestly ;v;
Heck yeah, I was thinking about it and thought it would be interesting regardless on if it goes anywhere or not. Icetail is usually so focused on his work and pushes himself to be the best that it would be surprising to most that he’s developed feelings for another cat

Icetail »
Icetail had to stifle back a yawn as he waited for Fernpaw to start cleaning his wounds and assessing the injuries that had been given to him last night. Never had he felt so inclined to just fall asleep on his paws then and there, but he knew that if Fernpaw wanted him to be asleep for this assessment then she would have mentioned it, or at the very least, would have slipped him a poppy seed or two by now. Considering neither of those scenarios had played out, the white tom knew he would just have to toughen it out and force himself to keep his eyes open and his body alert. Surely he'd be able to sleep soon.
He settled himself down into the nearby nest. The movement caused a dull ache to settle against his left side, telling him that the injuries in that area were perhaps a little bit more than the ones he had received on the other side; even still, the pain was nothing more than a reminder that he had been on a deadly patrol last night. He was lucky - incredibly so. The fact that he was still alive to have even been on last night's patrol was a miracle. Last night had not been the first time a night guard patrol had been attacked ever since he had joined the fleet of fearless cats who set out every night to protect TheliaClan. Hollyheart was not the first death he had been privy to, and while every death he hoped to be the last, he knew that there would always be another one right around the corner.
"Not much pain," he replied to the apprentice, voice heavy with the yearn to sleep. "The injuries ache, but there's no excessive pain, and the bleeding has stopped as well," he added the last part rather hastily, as if he had just thought about that fact as he was speaking. If Icetail's white pelt was good for anything, it was for seeing blood from wounds. Red did smear across his fur here and there, but the redness to his fur was already brittle and dark. Already it had dried up, showing no signs of anything bright or fresh. For that, again, he realized just how lucky he was. He would get to live to see another day, and knowing that Hollyheart never would only made him all the more grateful that he had been spared this time around.
Pebblepool »
There were only two cats in the Clan that ever saw a somewhat different side to Pebblepool. Most cats experienced an efficient medicine cat who did her job well despite being stand-offish and a little odd what with having the ancestors whispering in her ears more often than not. She was an eccentric molly with an unnatural connecting to StarClan. Her paws were closer to the edge of death then they were to the fields of the living. This was why she did not have many friends, if any friends at all. She was simply the Clan's medicine cat and nothing more, unless she was dealing with Fernpaw or Frostfalcon. Over time she was growing closer and closer to Fernpaw, warming up to the idea of having the spotted tabby around. Fernpaw was becoming a friend rather than just another Clanmate.
And then there was Frostfalcon. She was Pebblepool's littermate, and while the two looked almost identical, they could not be any further apart. Pebblepool was cold and distant with her sister. Usually this was something she could push to the side when others asked her about her littermate, but after having dealt with Frostfalcon, her answers about the other molly to Oakshade were a little shaky. "She's not pleased, but she'll have to deal with it if she wants to recover." It was all she said before she circled back to Oakshade's earlier statements about Bearpaw and the black apprentice's parents.
The medicine cat answered his earlier question as she gathered the supplies she would need. "I'm sure word has gotten to them by now, and I'm also sure that they will both visit as soon as visitations are allowed." Right now the last thing the medicine den needed was more cats inside, especially when Hollyheart's body was still stretched out lifelessly in the back. Her corpse would be brought outside to allow the Clan to properly mourn her later, but that would only be after her and Fernpaw had tidied Hollyheart up and cleaned her up. No cat needed to gaze their eyes upon her while she was still ragged and smelled of death. "Your apprentice is a tough one, Oakshade. Bearpaw's the first apprentice in some moons to be accepted as a night guard. I'm sure StarClan has achievements yet for her." Being a mentor herself, Pebblepool now understood the bond that a mentor had for their apprentice. She was certain that Oakshade worried deeply for Bearpaw even in his sleep deprived, injured state. Reassuring him that his apprentice would be fine was the least the medicine cat could do.
Pebblepool settled herself down near the tomcat as she began to gently wash his pelt with a moss ball. She concentrated most of her efforts around his flanks and chest where she could see a larger concentration of dried blood and torn fur. "Your wounds look minor so far," she told the ticked tabby. "Icetail's wounds also looked minor from what I assessed earlier, so the two of you won't be off patrols for long." Setting down the moss ball, Pebblepool grabbed an oak leaf where more poultice rested. "This will sting a bit." Quickly she began dotting the tom's new injuries with the poultice, insuring that they were all covered so that the possibility of infection would decrease. The last thing they needed was a night guard with infection infested wounds.

Fernpaw medicine cat den — accompanied by: Icetail As soon as Icetail had settled down into the nest, Fernpaw was quick to gather a soaked moss ball along with some poultices and cobwebs. Compared to Hollyheart, Bearpaw and Frostfalcon, Icetail and Oakshade were probably the luckiest cats in the clan right now. Both had minor wounds and they didn't look infected or concerning to Fernpaw. She let out a sigh of relief, knowing that Icetail would be easy to take care of. It was obvious to the grey spotted tabby that the white tom was exhausted. He had stifled a yawn and hadn't moved too fast to the medicine cat's den. She could only imagine how he he felt about the fatal night patrol, but she wasn't going to pry. She needed to assist** him quickly. As he mewed, the medicine cat's apprentice ears pricked up. "That's good then. You got lucky," she replied before picking up the moss ball. Images of Hollyheart's stiff body flashed in her mind. She shook her head, wishing for the thoughts of the deceased guard's death to disappear. "Um, you know, you can try to sleep if you want. I don't have anything else to ask."
Fernpaw began to rub it against his wounds on his flanks and anywhere else where she saw dried blood. It was easily removed thanks to the soaked moss ball and luckily the blood wasn't caked on to his white pelt. Once she had washed all of his wounds, the young she-cat picked up two poultices. "I guess you already know how this all works," she muttered, mostly to herself. Fernpaw preferred to talk as she worked, but with Icetail's exhaustion, she didn't want to annoy him. Maybe for once she could adjust to working in silence. "The poultices will sting."
She carefully smeared the poultices on to his wounds, making sure every wound was covered. She then leaned over to her pile of cobwebs and picked one up. The tabby placed the first cobweb on to Icetail's left flank, then placed another on his right, and so on. Since Icetail didn't need anymore cobwebs, she wondered if he needed a poppy seed. She quickly glanced at the guard before looking back at the herb storage. "Do you need a poppy seed?" Fernpaw asked, trying not to hesitate. "If you don't, then you're free to finally get some sleep."
Oakshade medicine cat den — accompanied by: Pebblepool Oakshade had considered Pebblepool to be a great medicine cat, even when she was young. There was something about her that seemed a bit different, but he didn't mind. Not all medicine cats were as efficient or knowledgeable like Pebblepool was. TheliaClan was beyond lucky to have such a skilled healer in their clan. However, he had never understood the relationship between Frostfalcon and the medicine cats. The two littermates were so unalike that he sometimes wondered if they were related at all.
He wasn't one to pry, but Pebblepool's response to his question was a bit surprising, shaky even. It was clear that the grey she-cat didn't want to discuss her littermate, who wasn't too far away from him in the den. Although he didn't have any littermates of his own, he understood why. It was very obvious; the two sisters didn't have a relationship nor did they speak. Frostfalcon always seemed cold and guarded to Oakshade, despite patrolling with her for moons now. He knew that Icetail got along with her, but Oakshade did the bare minimum with her. A small chat was enough interaction for him. "To be fair, I'm not too surprised. It is how Frostfalcon is," he told the medicine cat, lowering his voice. "Maybe the next two moons will allow her to recover and do some hard thinking. She has to learn about being patient."
His yellow-green gaze was slightly blurry due to exhaustion, but he slowly came to when Pebblepool mentioned Bearpaw. The brown ticked tabby could only think of Bearpaw and her mothers at the moment. His apprentice was one of the best in the clan, at least in his own biased opinion. Pebblepool had a point, Bearpaw was the first apprentice to be a guard in moons which filled him with pride. He was grateful to have her as his apprentice even though she made a dangerous choice. One that would impact her entire life. "I sure hope so. She's been great! It's nice to have an apprentice. I'm proud of her and I know Bearpaw can achieve anything," he mewed joyfully before he began purring. "You have a good medicine cat apprentice, Pebblepool. I don't doubt that Fernpaw will follow in your steps. She seems to know the some of basics already."
Oakshade felt less worried now thanks to the medicine cat's reassurance. He was exhausted and he kept blinking repeatedly, trying to keep his eyes open. The sound of the grey she-cat's voice shook him out of his sleepy state momentarily. "Oh, that's... that's good to know. At least he'll be okay," he mumbled. He was glad that he, Icetail, Bearpaw, and even Frostfalcon would survive. At least they didn't have to face Hollyheart's fate this time. As soon as he felt a small sting, the tom grumbled, noticing that the feeling wasn't too strong. Maybe it was the exhaustion that was hitting him again, but everything felt dull in a way. He couldn't explain it. "It's fine, it doesn't sting too much. Thanks again, Pebblepool."

Icetail »
Lucky indeed, Icetail thought as he settled himself for the treatment he was about to receive. StarClan must have been watching over him for him to have come out of last night’s patrol with only the scratches that he had. So easily he could have ended up in Frostfalcon’s or Bearpaw’s position, or even worse. The tom’s thoughts drifted to Hollyheart. It was hard to imagine that the ginger molly was no longer with them. She had been a fierce warrior, eager to defend her Clan and serve without a second question. While fierce she had also been gentle, a caring feline that uplifted others when they needed it. She had a duality that not many others had, and Icetail would be lying if he said he wouldn’t miss that. The death of Hollyheart would affect every cat in the Clan in some way, of that Icetail was sure, and he was sure that the emptiness her loss opened would stick with him for some moons to come. Once he refreshed himself with some sleep he was bound to feel a pang of loss for the ginger warrior, but right now that was numbed by a mixture of being tired and the shock that naturally occurred after such a harrowing night.
Once again sleep tried to overtake him, and while he had acknowledged that Fernpaw told him he could sleep now, it was the faint tinges of pain that followed after his wounds were tended to that kept him from falling asleep on his paws. The pain wasn’t terrible, just a reminder that he was being treated and that this pain was only due to the open wounds being cleaned. Icetail kept silent though, knowing that this was something Fernpaw needed to do and that this was the only way to keep his injuries from becoming an actual problem.
It was only until the spotted tabby inquired about poppy seeds that he spoke. ”I’ll be fine without one,” he told her with a nod. His pain wasn’t immense, and now that the wounds were cleaned and slathered in herbs they were becoming numb as the poultice took hold. He was tired enough without any sleeping aids. Fernpaw could save the seed she would have given him for a cat that would actually need it later on. ”Thanks, Fernpaw. If something comes up I’ll come back.” The chances that his wounds would get worse were low, especially since he knew not to overdue it for the next few days, but he wanted to soothe any anxiety the young tabby may have. Before padding away to curl up in his den, he decided to soothe any of his worries as well as he looked back and, in a quiet voice, mewed, ”Let me know if Frostfalcon needs anything. I…she’s a good night guard. I’d hate to see her stuck in here for longer than she needs to.” The white tom stood just inside the den a moment longer, body language unreadable with tired eyes that gave away concern, before he turned and padded off, ready to curl up inside his nest for sleep.
Pebblepool »
There was a lot that Frostfalcon could do with learning. These thoughts remained inside Pebblepool’s own mind, the words silenced by herself knowing that they would be better left unspoken. Her jaw momentarily clenched as she held her tongue. Oakshade did not need to get involved in the strained relationship that the two sisters had. He wasn’t here for trivial gossip, either. So she said nothing about his comments on Frostfalcon. There was nothing more to be spoken to, so nothing more was said about it.
Pebblepool did, however, continue on the conversation of Oakshade’s apprentice. ”It’s good that you feel that way about her. The bond a mentor has with their apprentice is important, and something that only a few night guard cats get to have.” Pebblepool glanced over at the ticked tabby for a moment, her gaze steady while her words were full of a deeper meaning. Oakshade was lucky in that he had been chosen as a mentor. Many night guard cats never got the chance to train an apprentice, mostly due to the scarcity of night guard apprentices and that many full fledged guards did not live long enough to receive an apprentice.
This bond was something that even Pebblepool herself was new to. Realistically she has known that a day would come in which she’d get to train an apprentice, but the molly had never put much thought into it. She had simply believed that all she would be doing was passing down her knowledge to a younger cat, but she was learning that it was so much more than just ensuring that knowledge continued. The bond she was forming with Fernpaw was unlike anything she had ever experienced before, something that was different even between what she had had with Smokedapple. Pebblepool had fond memories of her mentor, but if she had to be honest, what she felt for Fernpaw was much more than she had ever felt for her own mentor. ”She has a good head on her shoulders and learns quickly. I have no doubts that the Clan will be in good paws once I am no longer here.”
Soon enough the medicine cat had cleaned up the tom’s wounds and had applied poultice around them. She finished with a fine layering of cobweb, and soon stepped away to take a look at her handiwork. Giving it the all clear, she looked up to Oakshade’s tired gaze and gave him a dismissal with a flick of her tail. ”You’re all done. Would you like a poppy seed for sleep?” Pebblepool doubted he needed one, especially considering he was practically falling asleep on his paws already, but she decided to ask anyway. She may not think that he needed one, but Oakshade knew his body best and would know what would work for him.

[ 10 years later... my set of rough replies are finally posted. ] Fernpaw medicine cat den — accompanied by: Icetail Fernpaw kept glancing at the cobwebs on Icetail's flanks, wondering if they could have been better placed. They appeared to be decent, the webs creating a tight yet effective hold on to the poultice and the wound. As she cleaned up the rest of her supplies, Fernpaw wondered how long Icetail and Oakshade would have to wait for their injuries to heal. She knew it wouldn't be as long as Frostfalcon or Bearpaw's recovery time. Yet part of her still felt shocked by Hollyheart's death, especially when she had first seen the she-cat brought into the medicine cat's den. Unlike the other guards, she would never return to TheliaClan. Instead, she would join StarClan. She hoped that Hollyheart would find peace there.
The grey spotted tabby didn't mind that Icetail was silent. After all, he was exhausted and there wasn't much for them to discuss. She wouldn't even know where to start besides asking about his injuries. For a few moments, she actually liked the quietness. It was rare when Fernpaw liked silence as she was a very talkative cat. She was always asking questions and making comments. Surprisingly, the apprentice wasn't feeling the itch of talking with Icetail about anything that she could think of. Maybe she was tired too.
Suddenly, she heard the white tom's response to her final question. It didn't completely surprise her that Icetail didn't need a poppy seed. She assumed that having his wounds cleaned and patched up was consistent for him. Icetail didn't seem like he was older than most of the night guards, but she was unsure. Not that his age would matter, though it left her to wonder how long he would last as a guard. The medicine cat apprentice nodded quickly, acknowledging his response. "Oh, you're welcome, Icetail. I'm sure your injuries will heal well," she mewed, dipping her head.
Fernpaw had expected for Icetail to leave the den as fast as possible, but he lingered as she noticed he was looking back. There weren't many cats behind her except for Frostfalcon, who was on the brink of snoring loudly, Pebblepool, Oakshade, and Bearpaw. She blinked momentarily before gazing at the white tom. Frostfalcon? I wonder why he's so concerned about her, the feline thought with curiosity. Fernpaw still had other things to do, but for now, she was curious about Icetail's comment. It kept her busy as she cleaned up the unused herbs, her mind whirling with plenty of thoughts. Oakshade medicine cat den — accompanied by: Pebblepool Oakshade wasn't surprised that Pebblepool kept silence and didn't bother to entertain his opinion. He respected her decision. Plus, considering that Frostfalcon was a few pawsteps away, he didn't want her to hear in case she did wake up. His gaze flickered over to Frostfalcon, who was fast asleep.
As Pebblepool changed the subject, the brown ticked tabby listened carefully. The medicine cat was wise and her words rung true. Not all night guards would receive an apprentice, let alone survive long enough. He was lucky. His ears twitched as his gaze met Pebblepool's, knowing that her words would always be important. The bond he had with Bearpaw was something he would never give up, even if it meant his own life. "I'm very lucky to have an apprentice like Bearpaw. StarClan knows I'm even luckier that I have lasted this long," he mewed in response.
In Oakshade's mind, it was no surprise that the grey medicine cat had an apprentice of her own. TheliaClan always needed a medicine cat as it was imperative for the clan's health. Without Pebblepool or Fernpaw, they would have been doomed, especially on a day like today. No matter what happened to Pebblepool's clanmates, she was there every time. For all that she did, he admired her deeply.
He turned his head around sleepily, ears pricking up as the she-cat spoke about Fernpaw. "That's wonderful. Fernpaw seems to be a well behaved apprentice. I'm sure you must be proud of her," Oakshade purred as his ticked tabby tail curled around his paws. "You'll be here longer than you think, Pebblepool. No need to think so far ahead."
I'm sure she will live longer than I will, the brown tabby tom thought to himself. He noticed that Pebblepool was checking on her work which covered his wounds quite well. His gaze brightened a bit as she flicked her taill. Finally! Upon hearing her question, Oakshade already knew his answer. "No, I'll be fine without a poppy seed this time. Thanks, Pebblepool," he mewed, dipping his head towards the medicine cat. "If I need anything, I will be sure to return. I hope you and Fernpaw can get some rest soon."
With that, the guard padded tiredly out of the medicine cat's den. He made his way towards the guards' den, following the same path that Icetail had.

( all good, take as much time as you need. I hope that your lab class went well in the end. good luck with your school year! I do not miss school lol
late response:
Icetail doesn't seem to be the type to have romantic feelings for another cat, so it'll be cool to see how he and Frostfalcon will interact. Frostfalcon is not the nicest cat around obviously, but I think she cares deeply for the other night guards. she might care more for Icetail than she'd be willing to admit. )

[ thanks! i passed it at least, and that's what matters in the end. this semester doesn't seem to be too bad so far, but man if i didn't have to go to school for what i want to do then i wouldn't be going still also since these scenes are pretty much ending, i was wondering if you'd like to start up a new scene? and if so, im down for whatever and whoever~ ] Pebblepool »
Oakshade was indeed very lucky to have been given an apprentice. It was not something that every night guard had the chance to do unlike the Clan’s typical warriors. There were some warriors that would receive multiple apprentices in their lifetime, passing down their knowledge and wisdom to the Clan’s youth more than once, but a night guard did not get that chance. Most night guards were killed before they could even begin thinking about training an apprentice, so the fact that Oakshade had been given Bearpaw was an incredibly high, and rare, honor.
The opposite was true for medicine cats. For a Clan to survive, a medicine cat needed to have trained an apprentice before they were called to join StarClan. A medicine cat was expected to train a successor so that the next generation of TheliaClan cats could have somebody to come to and rely on when they were injured or sick. This was how it had always been; the knowledge that Pebblepool had had been passed down to her by Smokedapple, who’s knowledge had come from her mentor, and so on and so forth. The knowledge that Pebblepool carried with her had been passed down for generations, the flame burning brighter rather than dying out to mere cinders. This blaze would continue on for as long as TheliaClan survived, never to die and always alight. Every day Fernpaw managed to stir pride from within Pebblepool. The spotted tabby had not been an apprentice for long, but she was learning quickly. StarClan had picked well when they decided Fernpaw was to be the next carrier of TheliaClan’s medicinal knowledge.
It was Oakshade’s next statement that got a reaction out of the medicine cat. Her whiskers quivered as if expressing a laugh that she did not let make any noise. ”One must always look ahead,” she told the brown ticked tabby before her, ”only StarClan knows when a cat is destined to take their last breath.”
For what it was worth, the blue-gray molly did believe she had seasons left on this mortal plane. Her ancestors had given her no indications that she was to join them soon. Then again, they had not directly warned her of Hollyheart’s death. In a way they had prepared her for something, but they had not specified that they would be losing a Clanmate this morning. Would they warn Pebblepool of her death when it was to come? The molly couldn’t be sure as StarClan could be rather vague at times. But this was also something she didn’t need to focus her attention on at the moment. Contemplating her own death was something that could be saved for later, perhaps right before she curled up for sleep tonight.
As Oakshade stood up to take his leave, Pebblepool gave him a nod of farewell. While she said nothing, it was clear in her gaze that she was relieved to know that he would come see her if his wounds began to act up or if he did need any poppy seeds to help him with his slumber. While she would soon clean everything up, she would have the poppy seeds on standby just in case he, or even Icetail, needed some.
Now with all the patients tended to, Pebblepool got up to her paws. Now all she needed to do was finish up with getting Hollyheart ready for her vigil.

( I'm glad you passed! hopefully your semester will go well this year. I probably wouldn't have gone back to school.
sure, we can start a new scene! I'm not sure what cats we should move on to though. I suppose having the clan at Hollyheart's vigil may be an option? or something else? )

( that's a mood.
I'm good with either of those. If we do the vigil, there's the chance we can role-play basically any of the cats involved who were closer to Hollyheart than the med. cats. if we go to another day, we can start with other characters and explore that way? )

[ hmmm how about just skipping to the next day? The vigil would be interesting but it wouldn’t be a very long scene I don’t think so we could go ahead to the next day for a more fruitful scene? ]

Oakshade medicine cat den -> guard's den — accompanied by: Pebblepool Oakshade knew at a young age what he was getting into as being a night guard apprentice. He knew he was putting his life, however long or short it would be, on the line. He felt that he needed to be a guard, no matter what. He knew it would affect his littermate, Hickoryburn, who took the less... dangerous route of becoming a warrior. Oakshade loved his brother dearly, so much so that he hoped to be around for as long as he could. The honor of having Bearpaw as his apprentice brought brightness to his life. He was so lucky to have an apprentice unlike many other night guards. Bearpaw was the first cat in moons that chose to be a guard apprentice. He cherished every moment with her because any of those could be his last. He would teach her everything that he knew, even if it was little details or instructions. He could only hope that Bearpaw would use them best to her ability.
The tom's ears flicked gently as he grinned, noticing Pebblepool's whiskers quivering. Despite not laughing outright, he knew she found his statement to be a bit funny. "You're right though. There's no need to do dwell on the past," he mewed, nodding in agreement. For a night guard, he did believe in StarClan. Though they seemed cruel at times, by taking guards away, he knew that it wasn't StarClan's fault. It was simply the cat's time to go or the monster had defeated them once again. "I wouldn't doubt that."
He carefully got to his paws and nodded back to the medicine cat, his tail twitching as he padded out of the den. Oakshade would return to the molly's den if he needed to, but he hoped this time, he wouldn't need a poppy seed. Once inside the dark den, he yawned before tumbling into his nest. The brown ticked tabby rested his head on his paws before he quickly drifted off to sleep.

Beesnap clearing — accompanied by: open After Hollyheart's vigil, most of Beesnap's clanmates seemed to have drifted off to sleep. However, she lied in her nest, staring at her clanmates who surrounded her, some of them sleeping peacefully in their nest. By the time dawn came around, she was pacing restlessly outside of the warrior's den.
It was safe to say that Beesnap was feeling so many emotions at once that she didn't know what to do with herself. She wanted to check on Bearpaw, but she knew it wouldn't be good to disturb her kit's slumber. Grumbling, the black she-cat continued her pacing with her claws unsheathed. She dug them into the ground beneath her. Maybe she needed to speak with Honeystream to make sure she was okay too. Although she had duties to complete, Beesnap didn't care one bit. She wanted to be there for her kit and partner instead of wandering aimlessly around the territory.
The black furred warrior forced herself to sit down. She didn't want to feel so anxious yet angry inside, but Beesnap couldn't help it. It was eating at her more than she ever thought it would. She turned her head towards the warrior's den, trying to see if Honeystream was still inside. Even if she wasn't, Beesnap would find the white and orange she-cat no matter what. Or maybe she'd have to settle for some other cat as company.

[ super sorry for my awful spottiness, school's been kicking me hard these last few weeks - we love midterms ;w; ] Honeystream »
Oh, life just wasn't fair, not fair at all. First her brother, her only littermate, had to go off and decide that he wanted to serve his Clan as a Night Guard, and then later on Honeystream's own daughter, her only kit with Beesnap thus far, had to take a liking to her uncle and decide that she wanted to follow in his pawsteps. And then said kit had to go off on a night patrol and get banged up and beaten viciously. What if she didn't make it through the night? What if Pebblepool and Fernpaw couldn't actually heal her? Honeystream couldn't bare the thought of her precious Bearpaw dying so early, so young. Bearpaw had so much life to give. StarClan couldn't take her now. StarClan would have to be heartless to recruit the apprentice.
Yet, the same could be said for Hollyheart. The ginger molly had been older than Bearpaw. She had served her Clan as a fully named night guard for some seasons now, but that didn't mean she had been old by any means of the word. Hollyheart had still been so full of life, so full of energy that could help her serve her Clan for many more seasons to come, but there she lay out in the camp, lifeless and cold, a battered corpse with no breath stirring in its chest no longer. Honeystream stared at the once alive figure that lay stretched out in the camp, only a few cats left sitting vigil beside her. Most cats had slowly made their way to their dens to attempt to sleep, yet after such an eventful day it would be no surprise if hardly any cat slept a wink.
Honeystream knew she would not be able to sleep even if she tried. All she wanted to do was check on her daughter, but she knew better than to disturb the medicine cats and the patients that lay inside - Bearpaw wasn't the only cat resting in there right now. Frostfalcon had returned with some serious injuries as well. Earlier Icetail had found Honeystream, telling the fretful molly that Bearpaw would be okay after some rest. Her brother's words had eased the white and ginger warrior to some extent, but a mother's worry for her kit could never be fully extinguished.
While she knew there was no use in trying to check on Bearpaw herself, Honeystream's copper gaze scanned the camp in search of one cat in particular. Between the chaos of the morning and her worry for Bearpaw, Honeystream had neglected to search out her mate, but now Beesnap was the only cat that the warrior wanted to be in the presence of. Fortunately it didn't take her long to locate the familiar sleek black pelt of Beesnap. Without missing a beat the warrior rushed herself over to the other molly, pressing her muzzle deep into Beesnap's shoulder fur for comfort; she breathed in deeply, drawing in the warrior's comforting scent before she pulled away, fur slowly easing back down onto her frame. "There you are," Honeystream breathed softly, worry still clear on her face, eyes flashing with hope that Beesnap could calm her frazzled nerves.
