Swanpaw remained quiet for a moment, though he nodded with a quizzical understanding of Brindlepaw's unique situation. He's always found the lack of fur odd compared to his own thick coat of fluffy white, though not necessarily in a bad way. If anything he just figured it must get cold sometimes, but it had never been something he felt like inquiring about. After all, It wasn't as if Swanpaw's own pelt helped him any when it came to hiding in anytime but leafbare, but that simply meant he had to try that much harder to show off his own value. "I suppose that makes sense, and a good catch at that." he replied with a lackadaisical shrug as if not to be TOO forthcoming with praise towards the more experienced apprentice.

However, he couldn't hide his own pride over being provided the praise he tended to seek from just about anyone, even if this time it was only an apprentice a few moons his senior. "Yeah, well, I am going to be the best there is. That starts by fixing my mistakes." he exclaimed proudly, though pausing in an awkward, "Er, well, the mistakes of others rather." as if to reclaim his misplaced dignity in that brief moment of accepting losing the mouse was in fact his own fault.

As the proceedings went about with Hail being accepted into the clan as Hailpaw, the deputy had remained silently listening to the ceremony he'd heard many a time in his life, although in regards to a loner it was.. odd. Having nothign against the cat personally, he couldn't say he was opposed to it, accepting loners was just unusual, a foreign concept to him but one he wasn't about to argue. He only realized just how long he'd remained in camp when the patrol returned, briefly feeling a bit ashamed he hadn't returned in time to complete his duties with Rookcloud and Goldenwhisker, though he hoped it had been otherwise uneventful for them.

Brindlepaw's ears pricked in surprise. Mistakes of others? The molly wondered what he meant by that, but wisely decided not to ask. Instead, tail held high, she meowed playfully, "Well, I bet I can catch more prey than you!" Her eyes flashed with excitement. To be honest, Brindlepaw didn't have much to do back at the camp, and she thought that the more prey they brought back the better.

"You should be warned, though, I won't go easy on you," she teased.

The mouse didn’t know what hit it, as Hailpaw pounced it with swift paws and sharp teeth. Hailpaw had always enjoyed hunting, and as much as the scent of juicy prey filled his nose, he hunts for the clan now. The gray tom picked up the dead mouse in his jaws and turned back to Falconstorm. Hopefully he showed off his hunting skill adequately enough to his mentor’s likely.

“Yeah I probably should have. It’s definitely different than hunting in wheat fields,” he said with a chuckle, dropping the mouse at his feet.

“When does training begin?” he asked. He still couldn’t believe that this was his territory now. How long had he looked out from his tree, wondering what it was like on the other side of the border? No more dreaming now, this is his new reality, and he couldn’t be more excited. He was sure that the blue-gray tom was going to be an excellent mentor for him, he’ll do whatever it takes to make him proud. To make his new clan proud.

(Hey moonclaw400 , would it be possible for me to update Hailpaw’s personality later? Since he’s a clan cat now, some parts of his description doesn’t really fit anymore haha)

"What do you mean? Is this a prophecy? Are you Starclan cat?" The medicine cat, like all cats who receives signs would do, asked questions. She know that the cat would fade anytime and leave her alone. But, perhaps, the cat could answer some questions, or not?

Swanpaw snorted haughtily in immediate response to Brindlepaw's competitive statement, "You'll have to catch a lot to keep up with me, I've already caught a few mice this morning!" Despite those words, he certainly wasn't saying he wasn't up for the challenge by any means, a glimmer of defiance flashing across his yellow eyes. "I'd be offended if you did go easy on me, it'd make it way too easy to beat you..!" he soon added pompously, his tail confidently swaying from an upright position, his posture simply oozing the arrogance of a young tom.
"But if you ask nicely, maybe I'll give you a headstart." Despite all his pomp, his tone belied a teasing tone, offering a glimpse into a more playful gesture as he narrowed his eyes playfully at the she-cat.

Brindlepaw let out a small huff. "I should be the one giving you a headstart," she meowed lightheartedly, her whiskers twitching. "And, for a fair game, let's not count any other fresh-kill we caught today."

With a nod to Falconstorm, Hailpaw scooped back up his mouse and the two cats made their way back to camp. He held his head up high as he brought back his first piece of prey for the clan, it made him remember the very first time he caught something. The same feeling of pride washed over him. The gray tom deposited his kill onto a pile of other prey, which he assumed they all went and waited for his next instructions.
