The basic plan of the clan is this: There's a clan that names themselves after various crystals and gems. I started working on this over two years ago, forgot it, and want to finish it.
planned clan stuff so far:
GemClan
You walk through a lush forest, birdsong flirting around you. The land seems plentiful, fresh, and untouched like you are the only one to ever be here. You reach a river that gurgles over strange stones that shimmer like eyes. In the water that rushes over them, you can catch glimpses of strange amber flecks. When you reach forward to touch one, a she-cat explodes from the bushes, shoving you into the water. You fight back with vigor. After a short, intense battle, she pulls herself away, eyeing you with both wariness and impressment. “You fight well, rouge,” she admits. “With training, you could be a fine member of GemClan. My name is Goldstar, would you like to join?”
Welcome to GemClan, home of the beautiful and the daring. We are a proud, secluded clan, unlike any other.
History
Long ago, Twolegs swarmed this place, swarming this place with fiery explosions and sharp claws on sticks. For some unknown reason, they seemed fascinated by the stones that they found under the earth. But, as Twolegs do, they seemed to attract a large number of rodents. To solve this problem, they brought in several cats. But, soon they abandoned the area, leaving the cats- GemClan’s ancestors- behind. But these cats never forget their roots, and they too became enraptured by the riches of the earth. They studied the gems, and learned of their traits and fine qualities, in an almost worship like fashion. They took the name of the stones they felt resonated with them. Soon, a new tradition was born- the cat with the highest clairvoyance-named Stonereader- chose the names of the youth when they came of age, and to prove their worth, the cats had to venture deep into the caves and find the stone that they had received the name of.
Territory
Nestled in high craggy mountains, the secluded territory of GemClan can be found. The land is covered in tall pines and aspens, creating a dense forest where the clan thrives. In the center of the territory, a deep cave, where the Twolegs had once dug for riches, welcomes the cats, who have made the abyss their camp. Close by, a clear and reflective lake sits silently. A river runs into the lake, and, if one observes it carefully, they may catch glimpses of gems and even precious metals glittering from underwater.
Hidden in a recluse spot across the territory, a smaller cave lies. Inside, tiny fragments of gems freckle the cave wall, and moonlight shines through holes in the roof. This is the Moonlight Cavern, and, near the center, many small pools lie, fed by the rain of the mountains. This is where the medicine cats, leaders, and Stonereader come to communicate with StarClan.
Traditions
THE NAMING CEREMONY
Once apprentices reach twelve moons of age, they are taken to the Stonereader, who collects signs from StarClan on the youth of the Clan. Once there, the Stonereader gives the apprentices a prefix based upon the qualities they possess and the signs from StarClan. But there is another process the apprentices must do before earning their warrior name- THE FINDING OF THE GEM.
THE FINDING OF THE GEM
Immediately following their Naming Ceremony, the apprentices are sent to the deepest parts of the cave, in search of the stone that they are matched too. Only when they have found it may they return. They bring the stone home, and then are given their full warrior name. The stone is placed along the walls of the camp, and is carefully looked upon by the Stonereader, who learns prophecies from the stone itself that tell of the cats rises and falls. However, they are not to share this with the cat themselves, but only to the Clan leader, if needed.
CLEANSING OF THE MOON
With the deep connection to stones, the cats found that their crystals seemed much more powerful after spending a night in the full moon. Thus, once a moon, on the night of the full moon, a celebration is held in the light of the moon, with games and competitions for those who wish to participate. While everyone in the clan -from kits to elders- go, they are not required to spend the full night out, although many apprentices do, much to the annoyance of their mentors!
Stones Found in the Mines
NOTE: if the stone in question has two words to its name, the first name is taken, so a cat aligned to Rose Quartz would simply receive the prefix Rose-. You can shorten stones however you want, just make sure you don't deviate to wildly. The description is based off of the metaphysical properties of the stone/gem/metal.
ANOTHER NOTE: if there is a stone not listed here, pm me (runningflame) about it! If you can justify the stone with its meaning, we can work something out. And yes, I am aware that these stones do not exist all together in the same area. This is a series about talking cats, idc.
