I was on the forums, and then ads kept popping up and they were making my computer lag and spin the fan at max. speed. Any reasons?

If you're off of the forums, does your computer still do that?

Lag. If the forums are closed, does your computer's fan spin at max speed & does your comp lag?

My recommendation would be to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del --> Task Manager --> Processes --> Organize your programs by CPU. This should be able to be done by clicking on the CPU at the top of the list. If a program is what's causing your computer to lag, it probably uses a lot of your CPU. The list will include your internet browser if it's open. Most likely it's either because your computer is just doing what it's doing, or your running some videos or videogames or something along those lines in the background. That's what usually gets the fan spinning.

if it's still doing this when you aren't using the forums, it obviously isn't the forums fault. how old is your computer?

It won't fix any problems, it's just a way to telling what's taking up a lot of CPU power from your computer. The ads are small and there aren't many of them at all. I doubt they're making any trouble. You could look at the background apps running on your computer as well, and close all the ones you don't use. But those shouldn't be making your computer lag.

background apps are doing nothing If it's making you worried, you can research free programs or purchase programs that will scan and clean your computer. If you have any kind of security on your computer, you can browse different options to clean or scan your computer. Other than that, maybe others will have some advice on what to look for for laggy computers. But it could just be old and used. There's nothing that can be done about that.

... I dump wine all over my computer on a monthly basis and it keeps it working smoothly. Try that. You can search online for many different programs, and if you want something that 100% for sure legitimate, just take out a credit card. You could call up a professional as well. I'm not sure what you're looking for now.

I use Avira and it's alright. I haven't had any viruses. I'd also check and see if there are any programs on your computer. Be very careful to not delete any programs you need, though.

If you don't want to accept peoples' help, then why bother posting? And by the way, just because your processor is an i5 doesn't mean your computer will never lag and run its fans at max. An i5 in this day and age is an average-level processor; if you want something that'll load everything flawlessly a lot more often, try an i7.
And if you don't want ads and don't want to get a free program like those suggested, then there is this thing you can pay for called ProBoards + that eliminates ads.

I use and everyone I know uses Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it's great. I also use CCleaner & Clean Master and it's great and its safe
but if you have something against cleaners and anti spy/malware, then your stuck with what you have.
