As far as we know, the protagonists we read about throughout the series have interesting character development, flaws, and motivation.
Nightheart is one of the main protagonists in a starless clan, has this aura of insecurity, and belonging and pretty much aim is frustrated at his clanmates in his clan. Think about it, he is firestar kin and it would be so cool if this cat, who is supposed to be carrying on the legacy of his great-grandfather's name. But instead, choose a different path to walk down.
It would be a HUGE opportunity to see nightheart become an antagonist, if not then perhaps maybe in future books? He is still young and still immature but again he has the choice to be who he is, I'll be not surprised if some dark forest cat just appears in his dream and Nightheart will be probably playing Uno with that cat.

I'd love for a protagonist to actually turn evil and not just have personal dilemmas because they always end up choosing the "right" path regardless, now I wouldn't want Nightheart to turn into an Ashfur/Tigerstar clone where he kills endlessly because I just can't imagine Nightheart winning in an actual fight because I mean look at him lmao, but I'd imagine him to be similar to Sol in a way, granted probably not as smart but I can't help but imagine him being overly petty as a villain

I previously liked the idea before and after the release of River (just like I also liked the idea of a villainous Frostpaw). But after Sky, I'm moreso inclined to hope for Nightheart that he develops into the opposite of a villain (or just a morally grey character lol). That he accepts his family legacy while still staying true to himself. He's not the only Firestar descendant after all (and the fact that he got singled out of all the others to be the one getting compared so much to Firestar does come off as at least a little contrived in terms of the plot imo).

Ah yes, Nighheart is my favorite character in A Starless Clan.

Personally I'd like his character development to be more antihero-esque than outright villainry.
