A Thief in ThunderClan update snippets

Yes! I so can't wait for this book. Let's see:

We of course have Brightheart, Cloudtail and Firestar. They were the super obvious characters. We also have Cinderpelt, Thornclaw and Brackenfur, as they are Brightheart's littermates. Willowpelt being there means this is before her death in FQ. Graystripe is there as well. Another character is there who's name I can't quite make out... but I think it's Sandstorm? Idk. A flashback to the dog scene... which I actually did expect. I mean, ASIR had a flashback to the bonehill scene after all. I wonder if we'll see Swiftpaw.

Next is Rainpaw, Sootpaw and Sorrelpaw. Rainpaw was actually Cloudtail's apprentice, so I kind of expected him to appear. I'm glad that we'll be getting a Sootfur who isn't running. And a clearer picture of Willowpelt. Is that Spiderkit and Shrewkit? While I can't clearly read the names, those are literally pictures of kittens. One brown and one black. Yeah that does kind of look like Ashfur. That would be the first picture of him not running as well.

I'm guessing that Brightheart is telling Cloudtail that she's pregnant. That's what this scene kind of looks like. Also, Firestar and Sandstorm leaving to rebuild SkC? It kind of looks like they're leaving the Clan. It also looks like Willowpelt's death is right here. And newly blind Longtail. Looks like they went with the brown pelt. Aw! Little baby Whitekit! Even if we just see her as a newborn, I'm just glad we get to see her at all.

Is... there an alternate cover? We see the cover of the book with a darker sky and the moon. Brightheart and Cloudtail are on a tree branch.

Probably because she is supposed to be a newborn kitten there. If you look at pics of actual newborn cats, they do look similiar. Although I'm surprised they chose to portray kits realistically like that when they've previously made them open their eyes two days after being born (and speak full on sentences but that's more about the humanized version of these battle cats anyways) at the start of Bluestar's Prophecy.

I'm not particularly excited for more ThunderClan content (since we get that pretty consistently in this series) but I'm really excited for more of James L. Barry's art.

Yeah, true. But this wouldn't be the first time they showed a cat with an injury in one of the GNs before they actually received it. Onewhisker was shown with the scar behind one of his ears in WoC despite only getting that during his fight with Tallstar (his StarClan version) when he was already a leader himself. Although weirdly enough, I cannot find any info on that anymore on the Warriors Wiki despite remembering it to be mentioned (the source was the old Warriors App). It's also still mentioned in his trivia section that showing the scar in WoC was a mistake even though the source for his fight with Tallstar is gone. Now I'm wondering why exactly it was removed...

Yes, that's exactly what it also said on the Warriors Wiki! Even word for word, as far as I can remember/recall. No idea why it's no longer listed under either Onestar's or Tallstar's (checked both pages) trivia sections on the wiki anymore. Thanks for posting it!

So it could be Ashfur (let's be real, it's him, c'mon now). This really is not the first time (and probably won't be the last one either), where cats showed up in GNs bearing scars they actually got later on in life, after all.

That seems even more unlikely though. Considering that ThunderClan technically already has two GNs as well but still got yet another one with A Thief in ThunderClan this year. Those two GNs for one featured a ThunderClan protagonist but took place largely outside of the Clan setting (Graystripe with Graystripe's Adventure) and the second was from an outsider perspective (Ravenpaw, who was a former ThunderClan cat, with Ravenpaw's Path). Granted, these two are older GNs but this still makes it seem rather likely that SkyClan might be next considering the writer's newest approach (as of 2020) in letting each Clan have a new (fully colored from the start) GN.

And thus, seeing how SkyClan doesn't have a new GN yet (they do have that older one though, SkyClan and the Stranger, from Leafstar's PoV), it seems highly possible for them to get a new one next year since the other four Clans have gotten new ones (or in the case of RiverClan, WindClan and ShadowClan evn first ones) fairly recently in this way as well.
