Goosepaw >> Bluepaw, Acaipaw, Shypaw >> ᴄᴏɴɪ﹣ғᴇʀᴏᴜs Blaze ♡ moonclaw400
Goosepaw knodded to the group of apprentices, feeling some of the anxiety from Shypaw. He shrugged it off and looked around. They really did almost have all the apprentices…. He silently sent a prayer to Starclan that Marigoldpaw wouldn’t come, He loved his sister but her softness got under his fur more than he’d like to admit. “We could learn how to do team attacks!” Goose thought about that for a moment. “Do you guys think team attacks are more efficient than one on one? Like, if your the only one fighting the enemy, you can focus better and it’s more efficient.” The Tom rambled, not aware that he was probably stepping on the toes of Acaipaws ideas. He let his words trail off. He was a fairly new apprentice, all the others would get their warrior names before him, but the little grey apprentice was eager to prove his place as a strong warrior in his clan.

Dustflame »
Splitting up sounded like a good choice to Dustflame. Working with Sagevale would have been doable for the tomcat, but he had his suspicions that coming together as a team alongside Coyotestorm would have proved cumbersome, if not just outright impossible. While Coyotestorm looked as if he had cooled off from earlier, Dustflame could only image what all would set the younger warrior’s temper off.
”I’ll go left then,” Dustflame decided once Sagevale had made their decision.
Coyotestorm glanced toward the rock before meowing, ”I’ll head closer to the rock. No telling what all juicy prey can be found in the crevices.” Without waiting to hear back from the other two warriors Coyotestorm bounded off toward Hawk Rock’s base.
Dustflame stood and watched the younger tom until he disappeared in the nearby brush of the desert. He shot a glance toward Sagevale one last time. ”We’ll meet back here when we’ve finished.” And with that the ticked tabby turned and headed left, already on high alert for any sight or scent of prey, muscles poised and ready to pounce at any given second.

Shypaw glanced over her shoulder towards her mentor, before looking back at Acaciapaw. "I bet he already asked," she reassured, very well not knowing if Cowtail truly did or not, "It will be fine." The chances were high that he did. Shypaw's amber gaze flickered between the three toms and she hesitated to agree with anything.
"Maybe we should wait and see if Cowtail had any plans for our training session," Shypaw pointed out to the toms. Their little brainstorming session had some good ideas, yet if Cowtail had something else planned entirely she didn't want to oppose on the warrior's wishes. She also knew her mentor wasn't planning on two more apprentices. He only told her to invite Bluepaw.
Shypaw jerked her head in Cowtail's direction, "Let's go, we can figure out what we doing once we get out of camp," she reasoned. She couldn't wait to feel the warmth of the sun on her fur.
The brown tabby trotted back over towards her mentor with bright eyes, "Cowtail" she greeted him once again with a small purr, "I think... we all ready if you are ready". Shypaw gave Cowtail a sheepish smile. Four apprentices altogether should be manageable. Her amber eyes scanned the camp briefly, wondering if she should have seen if Juniperpaw wanted to come too.

Twigstar
Outside Camp With Sandyhawk /𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢
Her green gaze fell back onto the sun. It was steadily making its slow path into the sky. How nice it must be to have one single responsibility. Only to rise and fall everyday, nothing causing it's daily routine to stop. She loved being in leadership role, she could still remember the pride and amazement that puffed in her chest when Canyonstar named her deputy after Sunhaze passed.
"I am sure within time, she'll come to impress you," Twigstar reassured him, and the rest of clan, Frogblaze just needs time. She knew that Frogblaze had the ability to be an incredible deputy. Her father was. Deep down inside, Twigstar knew that she couldn't compare Frogblaze to Russetnose. The duo was doubted in the beginning like now, for their friendship. Frogblaze felt like a risk that Twigstar was willing to make.
"Perhaps," Twigstar mused, drawing her attention back to Sandyhawk, "I can always stop by tonight and see if that helps." She appreciated Sandyhawk's concern. She wasn't terribly thrived about using herbs to sleep but if they helped smoothe her thoughts for the night, Twigstar would be willing to give it a chance.

Tawnyface made a face at Frogblaze's back. Great... a border patrol.
The white and ginger tabby tom smirked. "Of course," he nodded with a mock serious face as he agreed with Dawnfire. "You know the ranch is a very dangerous place and does need to checked out," he added.

D U N E W H I S K E R There were two cats Dunewhisker was loyal to above all else: his brother and his leader. He was honor-bound to serve and protect them for the rest of his days. It was the oath he'd gladly sworn at his warrior ceremony; the oath that made him full-fledged member of AridClan; the oath that set him apart from every other rogue or kittypet or loner that wandered the desert. For what was a warrior without his loyalty?
Still, he couldn't help but question Twigstar's wisdom in appointing Frogblaze as her deputy. He had nothing against the young molly on a personal level, but she was clearly not fit for the job. He'd made his opinion on this known very early. Loyal didn't have to mean smile and nod and agree with everything the leader says, after all. He wanted the best for his Clan and Frogblaze was not it. He hoped he could yet change Twigstar's mind on the matter.
But not today; he didn't want her to see him when he wasn't at his best. He'd had a bad headache for the last three days, and although he'd done a convincing job of hiding it, the pain and exhaustion that accompanied it was starting to impact his performance. When he saw her chatting with Sandyhawk, he considered turning around, but since the action would likely send another bolt of pain through the back of his skull, he sucked in a steadying breath and padded over to join them anyway. "Good morning, Twigstar." He dipped his head. "Sandyhawk. Do you still have those herbs you uh -- recommended day before yesterday?" His twitching tail belied his annoyance at having to ask for help - and at the I told you so expression he was anticipating from his brother.
Y U C C A T A I L "Fascinating," murmured Yuccatail. From their perch on the wooden post, they had a pretty good view of the huge black-and-white creatures that meandered this area. They still weren't sure what these creatures were, and that really, really bothered them. The animals were big enough to be predators, yet they moved so slowly, like they weren't even aware of their surroundings. The animals -- Yuccatail hadn't yet decided what to call them -- appeared to have no natural means of defense, either. Maybe they were just oversized prey. But prey for what? If there's something big enough to eat those things around here, I don't want to meet it.
Finally getting an answer to their question was worth the danger, though. Yuccatail squinted at the animals' legs. Looks big and heavy; they could easily trample a careless cat. They could probably do a lot of damage with those sharp things at the end of their paws, too. Were those paws? It was hard to tell from here. Deciding to get a closer look, Yuccatail carefully stretched forward, leaning out over the edge of the post they sat on. They were so intent on these mystery animals they didn't even notice the warrior below them until it was too late. "Whoa!" Overbalancing, Yuccatail wobbled and pitched forward, plummeting into a familiar dark grey molly. After a dazed moment, they stammered, "Oh, whiskers, I can't believe I just did that. I am so sorry," and scrambled away, immediately backing into the wooden post. "Ow."
P A L E S A N D Another typical morning in AridClan greeted Palesand on her return from the dirtplace - cats sharing their plans for the day over breakfast, patrols preparing to head out, and that spoiled idiot Frogblaze barking orders left and right like she already owned the place. Tch. Keep dreaming, lizard-brain. That should be her up there. Sure, they weren't too far apart in moons, but any cat could see that Palesand was far more suited to the position.
And why wouldn't they? Palesand held herself like a true leader; with her chin held high and shoulders thrown back, she radiated confidence with every step, her stride smooth and purposeful as she made her way across camp. She was fast and fierce in a fight and she wasn't a shabby hunter, either. And she really enjoyed telling other cats what to do. Really, she shouldn't even have to prove herself to Twigstar. I'm the best bloody thing this Clan has ever seen. A satisfied smile crossed Palesand's muzzle. Sooner or later AridClan's leader would realize she'd made the wrong choice.
"Hey, sis!" The pale ginger molly greeted Dawnfire with a friendly nod, then flashed Tawnyface a wicked grin, her green eyes alight with mischief. "Hey, loser." She made a show of glancing around furtively, then ducked her head and whispered, "Did I hear right? You guys are planning to do something stupid and dangerous without me?? Rude." She'd arrived just in time to see their faces when Frogblaze assigned them to a border patrol and had only heard the tail-end of their conversation. Something about veering off to the ranch. Which, if it involved going against Frogblaze's orders, sounded like exactly Palesand's kind of plan.
J U N I P E R P A W "Sorry I'm late!" Juniperpaw scurried over to join the apprentices gathered around Cowtail. He'd been the first one up this morning. The brown tabby had gone to use the dirtplace around dawn, and once he'd returned to the den, he'd woken up too much to go back to sleep, brain buzzing with nervous excitement for today's joint training session. To make matters worse, his mentor, Birdshadow, was nowhere to be found. He'd scoured the camp for her several times, but the only trace he found of her was a faint scent lingering around the camp entrance. She must have slipped out when he wasn't looking.
"Are we leaving now?" He surveyed the others with wide amber eyes. Birdshadow still hadn't come back yet. Would he still be able to join the training session? Would she be mad at him for going without her? "I didn't forget, I was just looking for my mentor." He shuffled his paws and glanced at Acaciapaw. "Maybe I should check again real quick, just to be sure? Just to be sure."

S a g e v a l eIW Coyotestorm and Dustflame || Mentions Twigstar || Hawk Rock || Tag Feathertalon »»————- ★ ————-«« Sagevale dipped their head to the other warrior. “Better be on the lookout,” they called after the retreating form. Though Dustflame would definitely know.
Resisting a shudder, Sagevale set to the task. They opened their mouth to scent the air, quickly catching onto the smell of a rock squirrel. No kangaroo rats, maybe those critters had cleared out. Sagevale crept forward, keeping their eyes on their prize. A rock squirrel, sniffing on a rock. It paused for one heartbeat. Two heartbeats. Three - Sagevale lunged. The squirrel gave a scream and fell backwards as they lurched towards it. Sagevale was on it before it could run - but it also did try to make a run, forcing Sagevale to grip it with their claws. When they stood back to check their work… well. It was messy, needless to say. Sagevale grunted. Too bad, but prey was prey. They just pitied the cat who was going to eat it.
»»————- ★ ————-«« Acaciapaw frowned at Goosepaw’s… unintentionally kinda insulting? Snide? Anyway, Goosepaw’s comment. He opened his jaws to retort, only to have Shypaw point out that Cowtail would be the one to choose specifics of the training. The brown tom sulked a little. What was so wrong about team fighting, anyway? With the coyotes about, it was really important to fight like that! His mentor would agree with him if he were here.
The glum mood was quickly broken when he spotted Juniperpaw. “Juney!” Acaciapaw mewed. “Where’ve you been, huh?” He tried not to roll his eyes at the mention of his friend’s mentor. Better not have her here for her dares this morning, honestly.
D a w n f i r eIW Tawnyface, Palesand || Mentions Asterthorn, Frogblaze || Camp || Tag Blaze ♡ Tealraven »»————- ★ ————-«« Dawnfire turned her head to look at Palesand. “Hey, it’s Sandy!” she joked, batting at her sister’s shoulder in greeting. “As I was going to say,” she added loudly, “it’d be so nice and responsible of my sister to come along! More paws and more fun, right?”
She lowered her voice. “So the plan is: either we go to the ranch, or we go to the red caves. Either dogs or loners, rogues, and kittypets with twolegs, your choice.” Her eyes flickered back and forth between the two cats. “You in?”
B i r d s h a d o wIW Yuccatail || Mentions || Ranch || Tag Tealraven »»————- ★ ————-«« Birdshadow gave a squeak when something big dropped on her. Almost. “Oh, hello!” she chirped, getting over the shock. “It’s a day raining cats and dogs, isn’t it?” She chuckled at her own joke.
“What’re you doing here, anyway?” the gray molly added. Yuccatail didn’t seem like the kind to simply wander in on the ranch without a purpose. “Sent to check if I’m slacking off on duties, mayhaps?” She let her paws dangle down towards the ground, balancing precariously on her post.
(Rolled a dice for Sagevale’s hunt results - the 1d20 dice said 13)

Cowtail »
Despite being some yards away Cowtail had been keeping an eye on Shypaw. He watched as the young molly ran up to Bluepaw, presumably asking the tomcat if he would like to join her and Cowtail out for some battle training. Sagevale was currently out of camp and the black and white warrior was sure that Sagevale wouldn’t mind if Cowtail took their apprentice out for some training. Cowtail planned on telling Sagevale about the training later if anything.
There was a brief moment where Cowtail was lost in his thoughts that he wasn’t looking over to where Shypaw had bounded off to. In those few moments, once he had looked back, Shypaw had gathered not only Bluepaw, but Acaciapaw and Goosepaw as well, and now little Juniperpaw was rushing over to join. Cowtail’s tail twitched a little nervously. Was she going to ask all of them to train? Cowtail wouldn’t mind, but that would be a lot of apprentices for one warrior to keep up with… Maybe if he paired them up in groups during training it wouldn’t be so hard. Yeah, yeah, he could do this. Afterall, he thought, back when he lived on the ranch he had once watched one of his old friend’s - a lithe yellow molly who went by the name of Mac - litter of kits while she had gone to hunt on her own. The kits had been rambunctious, all three of them, yet Cowtail had managed just fine on his own. Surely a group of apprentices couldn’t be that different.
Reservations gone, the black and white warrior gestured with his tail for the apprentices to follow alongside him. ”Well, if you’re all ready then I’m ready as well,” he purred. ”I figure we won’t go too far from camp,” Cowtail informed the group as he slipped outside. Not only were coyotes a potential threat as of recent, but if something were to go wrong he didn’t want to be too far from others what with five apprentices under his watch; the last thing he wanted was for one of them to get hurt. He also didn’t want to stray too far from camp on the off chance one of the apprentice’s mentors decided to look for them. Cowtail was sure most of the mentors were already out of camp on patrol or on their own, so he wasn’t too concerned about it, but the warrior would much rather stay on the safe side. Dustflame »
Without any word Dustflame headed off. He didn’t plan on going too far from Hawk Rock, and in fact, he wouldn’t be leaving where the rock was known to cast its shadow during the sunset. While it was a little after sunrise right now he was aware of a particular saguaro some ways ahead where the shadow typically never went beyond. That would be the marker for the end of his hunting area, that saguaro. Dustflame had yet to find it, but he wasn’t planning on heading out that far just yet.
Stopping near a thick patch of shrubs the tomcat parted his jaws. He was met with the scent of lizards, quite fresh as well. The reptiles had probably come out to greet the morning sun and warm their scaly flanks before the heat became unbearable. No trace of mammalian prey glazed his tongue. He’d be after whiptails today.
A decision in mind Dustflame followed the lizard’s scent trail, leading him deeper into the dry brush. He maneuvered himself through the stubble, planning each time where to place his paws. Dustflame was a pure AridClan cat, no trace of outsider in his lineage for as far back as he could remember. Blending in with the desert shrub and easily navigating through it was in his blood, something that he just knew how to instinctively do. His mentor had even praised him for it back when he had been an apprentice; it had always been his tracking skills through the desert that had awarded him with the most compliments.
Scuttling off to the side of him caught his attention. The warrior paused in his tracks, large ears swiveling to the side, trying to radio in just where the noise had originated. There, he thought quickly, the lizard’s location now found through his hearing alone. Dustflame stealthily slid through the brush a little further before stopping. He checked one last time for the lizard’s location before leaping forward, jumping so that he wouldn’t be tangled up in the brush and then swiftly landing right atop the whiptail. Dustflame made a quick motion to dispatch the prey, the lizard falling limp in his jaws without a struggle. The tom sent a quick prayer of thanks to StarClan - namely Russetnose if he was being honest - and then made his way out of the brush with his prey. It wasn’t the largest whiptail he had ever caught, but it would surely make a fine meal for some cat.
Coyotestorm »
Coyotestorm quickly made his way up near the base of Hawk Rock. He was soon cast in the rock’s shadow, the air offering the faintest hints of a chill now that there was no sunlight being cast. The sand under paw was still cool from last night as well, the shaded area having yet to receive any of the morning’s sunlight. That would change soon, though, and before long the desert would be its usual dry self. Again Coyotestorm noted the few clouds in the sky. He wouldn’t be surprised if those clouds grew in size and brought their friends along to flood the desert with rain before the day’s end. Rain was needed, but if rain was on the way then the Clan only had so much time to hunt for the day.
With realizing this the lynx point took a scent of the air around him. At first he didn’t pick anything up, but a second air drift carried with it the smell of rock squirrel. Coyotestorm smirked. A rock squirrel would make for a fine piece of prey, and if he were lucky he’d find the biggest squirrel around these parts and show off his catch to the patrol and the rest of the Clan. Maybe that would even help prove to Twigstar that he’d be the perfect mentor for any of the upcoming kits. He stalked forward, careful as to not make a sound. The rock squirrel soon came to view, the prey animal dashing through the rocks in search of its own meal. Coyotestorm unsheathed his claws. He stalked forward a few more paces before leaping forward, paws outstretched; the squirrel soon caught his presence and let out an alarmed squeak before taking off. Coyotestorm’s claws just grazed the creature’s tail but he continued his pursuit, determined to capture the prey.
Unfortunately the rock squirrel was not mean to be a meal today. It ducked underneath a loose rock and scurried away much to Coyotestorm’s chagrin. ”Rattlesnake dung,” he cursed with a lash of his tail as he skidded to a halt. Any other rock squirrels nearby would have ran away for safety as well, but he wasn’t about to end the hunt here. Surely there would be something else nearby that he could sink his claws into.

————- ☀ ————- Sandyhawk with Twigstar & Dunewhisker outside camp @ Blaze ♡ , Tealraven "I'll believe it when I see it," Sandyhawk grumbled. He didn't sound convinced, but he would certainly be impressed if Frogblaze and Twigstar proved him to be wrong. The medicine cat knew his clanmates well, having treated so many felines over the seasons. In fact, he helped bring some of them into this world, Frogblaze included. What he could remember most about her from a young age was that her spoiled attitude had only gotten worse over the moons. Perhaps some responsibility would do her some good, he thought, maybe then she'll learn from her mistakes.
The older tom gave a pleasing purr when the molly agreed to see him about taking some poppy seeds, relieved that he didn't have to waste time convincing her. Just as he was about to respond and make some excuse to leave, the sound of approaching pawsteps caught his attention. Sandyhawk's chest warmed at the sight of his brother, happy to see his littermate, and happy that he wouldn't need to chase him down. Dunewhisker had been next on his list to go see, knowing that the golden-brown tabby had been trying to mask a migraine for a couple of days now.
Just as Dunewhisker had predicted, Sandyhawk's lips pulled up into a knowing smirk. "Of course I do, come." He turned to head back into the camp's entrance, but not before he looked over his shoulder and dipped his head to Twigstar. "Don't stay out too long, Twigstar, your deputy needs you. I'll see you tonight."
Sandyhawk waited until he saw that Dunewhisker was following him before he set off, padding through the entrance and making a beeline for his den. "Must be some headache if you actually came to see me." He commented, nodding for Dunewhisker to sit in one of the empty nests before he pressed his tail-tip against his forehead and his ear to his chest, checking for any signs of fever. "Or did it develop into something worse?" It was a common question for a medicine cat to ask, but Sandyhawk couldn't hide the worry in his tone. Seeing that smug look on Frogblaze's face reminded the molly why she hadn't tried to be closer in the past. They weren't that far apart in age, but Asterthorn had always found it difficult to relate to the russet-furred deputy. Her head turned to look at Dawnfire and Tawnyface when she called them out, ordering them to go on a border patrol. It wasn't the way she would've put together a patrol, but then against she wasn't the deputy here. Asterthorn had been meaning to ask to be put to use anyways, maybe she should volunteer herself to join them. That decision was immediately set in stone when she spotted Palesand approaching the duo. Frogblaze wouldn't mind if she pardoned herself from their conversation, right?
"Oh, it's super neat, Frogblaze. I really do envy you." Asterthorn was already starting to stand, her amber gaze flickering between the group and Frogblaze. "Speaking of, I feel like I should go and join them. Four is the ideal number for a border patrol, or so I've heard, and I can't be caught just standing around camp. That'd be really embarrassing for me." Finally focusing her attention solely on the molly in front of her, Asterthorn gave a sheepish smile. "Plus, I'm sure you're crazy busy anyways," she said as she slowly backed away, "but it was great talking. We should do it again sometime!"
After that final farewell, Asterthorn turned and quickly raced off towards the trio. "Hey! Got room for one more?" She asked, greeting Dawnfire and Tawnyface with a grin, and Palesand by pressing into her side.
