The first thing most readers will notice when starting the series for the first time are the many unique names of Clan cats. While the colorful and unique names of our favorite felines are a beloved feature of the books, they can be a little confusing for those who aren’t used to them. Why do so many cats have -paw in their name? If suffixes denote rank, then why do all the warriors have different suffixes? Does a -fang outrank a -heart? And why do some cats not have any suffix at all? Today, we’ll be taking a closer look at the naming system of the Clans.

I do like knowing how everyone got their names. But hearing how some prefixes don't have any meanings and were just chosen to represent the nature is interesting. Also, Pouncestep was a pretty energetic kit. Still wondering about the flip prefix. Adderfang was a pretty fierce warrior from what I can remember and Thistleclaw was a strong fighter considering he fought a dog as an apprentice and won.

I personally associate -whisker, -nose and -tail for good trackers unless stated otherwise. Cloudtail was even said to be a good tracker at one point.
