We had to give up our foster kittens, Trae and Mystic, a little early because my partner had to have emergency surgery yesterday (they are doing fine and recovering well) and I am having surgery on Monday. It was sad, but the kittens were definitely socialized and I am so proud of them for all of the progress that they made!!!! Mystic especially made a lot of progress: she was so shy for weeks, but once she warmed up she became super affectionate! All it took was time and plenty of butt scratches lol
Also, I found out that I probably won't be able to go on my study abroad trip because of my surgery recovery restrictions . . . so not sure how to feel about that. I find traveling super exhausting/stressful/overwhelming, so I'm kind of relieved, but at the same time I'm bummed because it would have been cool to go to Paris.

For me, the hardest part about fostering is not being able to guarantee that the kittens we foster will immediately get a good home after we return them to the shelter. It hurts watching these kittens slowly warm up to living in a home, getting more comfortable, and then shuttling them back to the shelter, which can be a stressful environment for them.
Trae and Mystic still haven't been adopted. They haven't been at the shelter for a super long time, but I'm worried it will take them a while to get adopted. There are A LOT of cats at the shelter right now, and a lot of them are younger/more unique looking/more outgoing than Trae and Mystic.

DOUBLE GOOD NEWS!!
1) I'm pretty sure Trae and Mystic got adopted! They aren't listed on the website anymore. 2) We are picking up another foster today, a six-year-old cat named Viola.

Viola is SUPER SNUGGLY. She has the widest green eyes--they're so pretty, they almost look aquamarine.

Viola is settling down nicely. She is eating, but not drinking a whole lot. She likes to sit next to my partner while they play video games.

Viola is still with us and doing well, but she seems weirdly afraid of me--when I'm upstairs. If I'm downstairs, she'll run right up to me and cuddle.

Viola doesn't seem to like me anymore, and I have no idea why Also, she's not even hanging out with my partner as much anymore, she just sits under the couch upstairs.

Viola seems to like me more now, but we just got a text saying that she's ready to be returned to the shelter. I hope she does okay there this time; she gets stressed by loud noises and other animals very easily.

The in-between times without any fosters is always sad There's a cat-shaped void in my life right now. Hopefully we will get another pair of kittens or another cat soon.

The behavior you mentioned Viola having sounded more like she might have been sick. I hope she will be alright.

I hope so too! She's at the shelter now, so I know they have people there who will take care of her if she needs it.

Today we got two adorable new fosters! Kevin is a one-year-old beautiful gray tabby with a super long tail. We are fostering him because he was too hyperactive in the shelter, and disturbing other cats! Clark is a black and white five-month-old kitten. He is super thin and has super large ears, a long tail, and long legs. He's just along to keep Kevin company and help tire him out. They are both quite friendly so far, Clark especially.
I will post pictures as soon as I can get some good ones and refigure out how to post them.

Clark is so gangly and awkward it's hilarious! He has no idea what to with his limbs at any time, especially when cuddling. His tail is ridiculously long for his small body. He likes to make cute chirping noises and talks to us all the time. Kevin is a sweet cat who seems a little restless/stressed, which is understandable given that he's been uprooted from the shelter into our home. He's quite beautiful, and I wish he had a prettier name than "Kevin." No offense if your name is Kevin.

Clark is a scrungly little baby man and I'd die for him.
You could always jokingly add on to Kevins name and call him Kevin The Great And Terrible or something.

Today I learned that Kevin likes to play fetch. Also, he smells good.
Unfortunately, he and Clark don't always get along. They're cool 90% of the time, but about 10% of the time they fight with each other.

They're doing pretty well, even if they fight sometimes. My mom stopped by today and they both loved hanging out with her. It's nice to have a pair of fosters who aren't scared of strange people. Clark is growing so fast!

I've had cats who were even from the same litter fight with each other or with their mom. Unless they start fighting every day or causing serious injury to each other it's nothing to worry about. I just think of it like they are people, everyone who lives together is bound to get on each others nerves sometimes.

Yeah, they remind me of siblings where one is older and the other is younger. Clark can be super annoying toward Kevin for no reason, but sometimes Kevin uses his physical size to his advantage to bully Clark.

Kevin is a little trash panda and will stop at nothing to rummage through my recycling "bin"(which is nothing more than a large cardboard box). I hauled him out of there at least twenty times yesterday. He has no shame.

Hello! Fellow kitten foster mom here, and vet tech!
My most recent litter I took care of was a litter of five little black females, and an unrelated male who was kind of a last minute rescue.
