I still love Bramblestar but do think a lot of it has to do with my nostalgia for him as a character from the first arc, first half of the second arc and third arc where he was actually written well imo. I'm just otherwise so fed up with how much the writing team has ruined most of his previous characterization to instead not only fit in with their storylines (him training in the DF with his dad despite standing against him in the previous arc) but also to continue to have his problematic "romance drama" with Squirrelflight. It's just so frustrating and sad to me, seeing what he's been turned into by the writing and how he treats his own mate in canon.
He's got a lot of wasted potential and could have been way more/better than who he actually turned out to be if the writers had just done things differently.

He’s alright - neutral leaning slightly on like. He is definitely wayyyyyy too overhated in some portions of the fandom.

He’s never been abusive, I think the fandom really likes to throw that word around. He’s fine, good dad and good leader.

He's fine, I just think his writing could have been handled better, but he's not the worst either. I also find it a bit annoying when people throw around certain terms like buzzwords when it comes to him as well. His reputation as a character in the fandom will be forever skewered as well.

Love him. He’s an excellent father, Grandfather, and a competent leader in his own fashion. And is certainly overly hated by the fandom. And is flippantly pegged as abusive because he doesn’t appease/agree with Squirrelflight’s every opinion/demand. Disagreeing or arguing with your spouse, at least in its basic form doesn’t constitute as abuse. That’s not to say it doesn’t have dire consequences to one’s psychological/emotional well-being if experienced chronically in frequency, and definitely can be toxic. However, in my observation there’s nothing that would legally delineate as abuse. Nonetheless they both could use some therapy and counseling, as there’s rampant insecurities and unhealthy emotional dependencies on both sides.

I used to hate him but he's gotten finally gotten more interesting in recent books. Still don't like the guy but he's at least not as insufferable as I found him in TNP and AVoS. I don't like how Squirrelflight and Bramblestar treat each other, and I'm sad their relationship isn't more hinted at as being bad in the books. (Especially in the recent year) |
