I loved her character in the first book, but then she became just another she-cat in love over strong male character after she confessed her "love" to Rootspring. (I ship the ship don't kill me) I think her sacrifice was her in-character was perfect.

It's realistic

Liked her in the first half of the arc and her arc of going from the idealistic warrior to an unintentional lackey used and abused by a tyrant, but her romantic interest with Rootspring came out of nowhere and brought down her character for me during the second half and she just felt sort of "there" and really bogged down her chapters sometimes.
Her sacrifice was well done though.

She was the only protag that I liked from TBC. Bristlefrost did not deserve to be double killed like that.

(I ship the ship don't kill me) I think her sacrifice was her in-character was perfect. rootspring fell in love with her because she saved him and she was charmed by his affection and just grew to live him. It's realistic The fact that Rootspring fell in love with Bristlefrost because she saved him is quite a cliche approach to romance though and has been done before in this series as well. As for Bristlefrost, she was not charmed by his affection at first. Initially, she was very annoyed by it and him but because the writing team had to make this ship happen somehow, they made her suddenly change her mind and it just came off as forced on her part. The fact that her character then got reduced to only thinking about him in DW also was extremely annoying since it limited her previous potential in the first half of TBC. I was glad to see Bristlefrost go back to her previous characterization in the finale and also thought her sacrifice was very in-character for her in that regard. You are, of course, free to love BristleRoot but for me, their romance felt forced and there's nothing realistic about their relationship except for the ending where he lost her forever.

She was interesting in TBC 1-2, but after became โmiss donโt know what to doโ and โmiss ideal object of loveโ, wasted potential.
