warriorcats.com/content/poll/who-is-your-favorite-asc-protagonist-so-farThis type of poll for ASC in particular has been been done already a few times before the arc even began and then after River came out. The official Warrior Cats website has now posted such a poll as well and I thought to "share" it on here. Or more like just make my own thread about it seeing as the release of Sky might have changed some readers perception of and perspective on our three main characters for the A Starless Clan arc. After reading River, my ranking was as followed: 1. Nightheart 2. Sunbeam 3. Frostpaw Now, after finally having read Sky today it goes: 1. Sunbeam 2. Frostpaw 3. Nightheart I still like all three of them as characters but also did find myself getting annoyed with/feeling frustrated about Nightheart while reading Sky after a while when it came to how he treated/behaved towards cats who had either been kind towards him or just wanted to help him with his problems to belong and fit in. I'm still hopeful that his storyline and personality will develop over the course of this arc though to improve his attitude and relationships (especially with his ThunderClan family and his other Clanmates there).

I found Nightheart pretty annoying in Sky, so I'm going with Sunbeam. Frostpaw was okay, but her individual arc was kind of swallowed up by the overall RiverClan drama situation.

Frostpaw, easily! I quickly got fed up with Sunbeam's story being so focused on her relationships, but she's still no where near as grating as Nightheart is. I really don't care if it's only the second book, this doesn't make him any less irritating. In fact, for me to be this annoyed at a character we're supposedly meant to like this quickly makes it worse.

Frostpaw shot up considerably as of Sky, though mostly because I'm far more interesting in the RiverClan plotline right now. I got tired of Nightheart's angst and Sunbeam wallowing over her relationship drama. That said, I do hope both of them improve with the later books.

I’m going to seperate rankings into 2 sub-categories.
Ranked based off of characterization, development, personal character arcs, plot involvement etc, and how compelling their chapters were as a whole.
1.Nightheart
2. Frostpaw
3.Sunbeam
Ranked based off their personalities and how much I find their actual characters enjoyable.
1. Sunbeam
2. Frostpaw
3. Nightheart
I’m still invested in Nightheart’s story and want to see how it progresses. However, he’s not earning any points for being likable imo. He’s certainly got a ton of maturing and growing up to do, and I’m currently sitting on the fence with bated breath hoping they actually do something intriguing, profound and compelling with his character arc, and not just make everyone overly hostile to attempt to get readers to sympathize with him, and brush off his horrific behavior as justified.

Frostpaw all the way. Best story, best personality in my opinion, and most realistic feelings for me.
She actually grieves for Curlfeather a lot and is rather traumatized by what happened, along with having to have witnessed her death. So many times in these books has a cat died and their loved ones’ reactions just seem so… tame? Frostpaw actually has feelings about it that last more than a few chapters.
I actually love her snapping and yelling at Mothwing about how she’s not a real medicine cat because she can’t talk to StarClan. She needs someone to blame for how wrong everything has gone, and, though she obviously doesn’t resent her mentor for what happened and Mothwing is in no way at fault and shouldn’t be shamed for her beliefs, Mothwing is the one cat she feels she can blame things on, and she takes her anger out on her.
She feels stressed and solely responsible for the Clan throughout the whole book, and her mental breakdown where she feels that she can’t be a medicine cat without a StarClan connection and desperately imagining a life with Splashtail and naming a kit after her mother… that was powerful in my opinion, showing all her doubts in herself and desperately wanting to leave the stress, responsibility and trauma of her time as a medicine cat apprentice behind.
This will definitely be an unpopular opinion, but I think Frostpaw is more than just a camera for the most interesting part of the arc, but also the most realistic protagonist, and more than just the sympathetic little kitten I thought her to be after River.

My ranking is the same that it was after reading River; Nightheart, Frostpaw, Sunbeam. I love all three but Nightheart is my favorite.

Nightheart. He has the most drama and I just like seeing inside his mind. Granted he doesn't always think good thoughts and is selfish and annoying. But for me that's what makes him so good. He's a character. Instead of simple niceness, goodness, fear or anxiety. He's a grouch and I love that for him, hope he has good development going forward in the arc! I'd like to see him mellow out but still keep an attitude, almost Jayfeather style.

Mine is still Sunbeam. I like her the most personality-wise and I'm really interested in seeing how her relationship with Nightheart goes in the next book.
