I was watching Moonkitti's Longtail video and she brought up an interesting point. If Longtail became the deputy, it would've felt like the perfect resolution to his character arc. Honestly, I wish this is what happened. I feel like Longtail would've been a better deputy than Graystripe. Sorry Graystripe, I love you, but I never saw you as deputy material.

I would have quite liked to see Longtail as deputy under Firestar's leadership! But not him actually becoming leader though, the name Longstar just doesn't work well imo. I know Tallstar's name (whose warrior name was even Talltail) has a similar vibe but it still works better somehow.

I like Longtail, but I don't think anything about him screamed "deputy material", at least not more than Graystripe. He always struck me as the sort of dude who just wanted to be a regular, respected warrior sorta like Mousefur, but not particularly interested in being a leader or authority figure to others.
Idk it just doesn't seem like the "perfect" resolution to me when there's no narrative foreshadowing to suggest he would suit the role or want it. The only appeal I see is that it would have been a very clear external sign that Firestar both forgave and trusted him after everything, but that's not necessary imo.

I love Longtail, he deserved better. Hot take: Mousefur should have been killed in Fading Echoes, and Longtail could have died protecting someone from Darkstripe or Tigerstar. I actually quite like that idea. More interesting than them getting killed by the same people who opposed them in life. Although Longtail seemed to lose a lot of self-confidence after his accident and didn’t seem to exercise his fighting/hunting skills at all once he joined the elder den. |

I wish he didn't get blinded and shoved off to the Elder's Den.
Longtail had a lot of potential, after finally growing up and becoming a better cat. But nope. Gotta blind him, and toss him to the elders.
