warriorcats.com/content/poll/did-owlnose-do-the-right-thing-backing-out-of-leadershipThis poll just got posted on the official Warrior Cats website and even though Owlnose was effectively reinstated as leader of RiverClan by Tigerstar at the end of Sky (although he might just be a puppet leader at this point), his previous decision to back out before that all happened still counts and is important to note regarding his character. Although now I'm wondering if the outcome of this poll will somehow play into his future (but probably not though) and become a subject of discussion in the books later on. Or he just gets killed off (poor dude either way). Edit: I voted for the second option btw but also agree with the first one even if an inexperienced leader could still make for an interesting plot regarding the RiverClan leadership situation.

Option 3. However I'll make it clear I don't hate him in the slightest for backing out.

I think yes, he made the right call. He's a good guy but being a good person doesn't nessesarily equate to being a good authority figure. He realized he's genuinely not cut out for leadership but then gets forced to take it up again. That, and I think there is the implication that he was chosen partially out of neopotism because Frostpaw obviously likes him a lot and mentions he's her family. Yes, RiverClan is in dire need of a leader, but it really doesn't do much good when their leader tries to constantly please everyone and avoid conflict.
That said, I'm really hoping that he develops and learns some leadership qualities so he can be a stronger leader for his Clan. Like I said, he's a good cat, and I think in time he'd make for a good leader with proper teaching and experience. Him going from an inexperienced warrior who's too afraid of disagreements and confrontation to a suitable leader able to bring RiverClan back from chaos would be good character development.

yes. we dont need or want another onestar situation. onewhisker resented being peer pressured into the leadership role when he wasnt ready on the inside. on the outside, he pretended and tried so hard to convince himself and everyone else he was the right choice and he was ready...but for years, he knew he wasnt and he hated the cats who got him to that point (mainly firestar).

If it’s a position he doesn’t feel qualified or prepared for, then yes him backing out so a more suitable candidate can fulfill the role is wise, and he shouldn’t take the role because of peer pressure or being shamed into doing so. However, on the flip side, I’m yearning for him to grow into the role, and have a “heroes journey” arc, and continue to be developed as a character. I’m certain if they permanently remove him from the position, they’d just shelve him in the background, and forget about him. Plus I really want to see him stand-up to Tigerstar. It’s definitely going to take some work, and support from the rest of his clanmates for him to metamorphosed into the role and succeed. And I think he can be a competent leader, and personally, I really want to see him become one.

Three and four. He wasn’t ready at all, but no one including Firestar weren’t fully ready to become a leader. In more calm time I can understand his refuse, but in that situation it was his duty to lead his Clan through the storm. Warrior must protect his Clan in every situation and even with costs of his life, to dedicate his life to his Clan as a leader was his duty as a warrior. Every warrior must stand his duty before his wishes and weaknesses.

Yes. If Owlnose had forced himself to stay leader when he wasn't ready, RiverClan would be worse off. Bad leadership is worse than having no leadership at all, imo.

This guy was a total loser that wasn't able to get anything together even weeks into his tenure without asking for his mommy. However, the ONE decision he did make was absolutely the right choice. A bad leader is worse than no leader, and I have to give him props for recognizing that.

Poor Owlnose didn't know what he was doing. He did the right thing to step down.

Like others said, it would be cool to see him become leader over time. But this is Warriors lmao.
