Honestly, I don't remember caring for this book that much, but on reread, I feel like it spoke into my soul because what Fireheart is going through feels similar to what I've been going through the past month and a half. In this book, he goes through a period of isolation which drives him to his sister who is a kittypet. Graystripe was his only actual friend in the Clan. However, after meeting Silverstream, he becomes distant and Fireheart feels alone because Graystripe really was his only friend. He only really had mentor figures and apprentices who looked up to him. Though, he makes a friend out of Sandpaw who decided to treat him nicely now after he saved her from dying. It's interesting to see how Erins were setting up the roots for FireSand in this book. Fireheart expected hostility out of Sandpaw, but she surprises him and is playful. He starts getting happy when he sees her around and after her warrior ceremony, he wanted to share prey with her alone (lol) and was irritated when others surrounded her. This book was the first book in the series to feature a forbidden romance. I know a lot of people aren't fond of forbidden romances because of the repetition, but as a romance lover, I don't mind it. In this book, though, Graystripe was a bad friend. Love can make someone crazy, but it was irritating to see how he consistently chose Silverstream over Fireheart and even ambushed him over it. The supporting cast was great in this book with Yellowfang, Bluestar, Cinderpaw, Brackenpaw, Runningwind, Morningflower, and so many more. I honestly love Fireheart's pov because he's just such a compassionate cat and I love to see it. He's making friends with cats of all Clans and I just love how much he cares. Him taking over Brackenpaw's training, visiting Cinderpaw in the medicine cat den, covering for Graystripe despite his period of toxicity, him helping Morningflower and her kit, but still being flawed through turning back to his old life in a sense due to Princess. He sought out something that was comforting and familiar and I am doing the same currently by rereading this book series (lol). Anyways, not a big fan of Gray X Silver, but it's a pretty iconic couple in the series, so here's the messy fanart for this book:

Fire and Ice is my favorite first series book! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Yes, Fireheart's isolation is done well, and it speaks to me, too.
Who did you like better, Cinderpaw or Brackenpaw? Both are pretty cute imo.

Both are pretty cute imo. As much as I like Brackenpaw/fur, Cinderpaw/pelt will always have a soft spot in my heart. Her originally being high energy was endearing and even though she got horribly injured, she didn’t sulk or lay around. Her relationship with Yellowfang was also really nice reading about.
