I haven't read any of the series where SkyClan is at the lakes, but I don't care about spoilers.
what did Leafstar do to make her go from "majority disliked/hated" to being on people's favorites? I gotta know.

I gotta know. What made me like her a lot was when she betrayed imposter Bramblestar and fought him with ShadowClan, but idk about others. |

I gotta know. I'm biased as Leafstar's one of my favourite characters, but she constantly proves herself to be far more pragmatic and logical then any of the other modern leaders. She thinks things through and goes on what she decides to be the best course of action for her Clan. She never instigates fights she doesn't need and politically speaking she's rather well adapted considering she's from a non-Clan background, and her outsider perspective (again her non-Clan history and SkyClan's isolation) gives her a different perspective on matters the other four simply don't have. She's been through a lot (see Hawkwing's SE for the trauma line she experienced) but keeps on going regardless. She puts her own needs below that of the Clan and like I said, always goes for the most practical option available. She doesn't let herself or SkyClan get pushed around. Even if one doesn't particularly like her, she's easily respectable. |

But seeing as he no longer is among the main series leadership figures (RIP), Leafstar is my choice in terms of the actual modern Clan leaders post Firestar's reign. You go, girl!

I'm torn between wanting her to retire peacefully as she's been through quite a lot and is the oldest leader at the moment, but also wanting her to stay in power because she's also the best leader right now. |

Even if one doesn't particularly like her, she's easily respectable. she was incredible in avos, easily the best part of the second half. by the end she was so sick of the other clans shit she was ready to pack her bags and go. literal "damn yall live like this?" energy. leafstar has achieved a low tolerance for bullshit and i love it
also yeah the scene where she pretends to exile codebreakers just to appease the imposter then as soon as hes gone is like "ok tell them to come back i wasnt serious lets get rid of this guy" was just. SO funny

This is a bad answer but I feel like Nighstar given the chance would’ve been a great leader. He stood his ground in the circumstances of his promotion, and stood up when no one else could and it’s admirable considering how he never got his nine lives. I feel like if he lived longer or was given a fair chance he would’ve lasted as a great leader

I feel like Tallstar is that big ol' wise and full of wisdom cat... who treats every decision equally even if it looks dead on arrival.
He really (as of mainline) has that experience needed to be a good and fair leader...so that why I'm going to go with him.

Rereading the original arc rn and Firestar is just such an empathetic character. He has friends in every Clan which I think is a strength, for sure. He goes out of his way to make sure that conflicts that can be avoided get avoided and even when they can’t, he can still deal. He’s got my vote. I love that lil ginger dude.
