Okay little summary of what we have got going on so far:
(Also for the sake of my sanity I am going to call the 'bad guy' group the Red Lotus)
* The Red Lotus began to take a foothold in the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom government towards the end of Korra's time, quietly and slowly working their way into positions of power.
*After Avatar Korra passed, the branch of the Red Lotus in the Earth Kingdom tried hard to find the Avatar as soon as possible so they could manipulate her as soon as possible. Unfortunately for them, the White Lotus succeeded first and so the Red Lotus resorted to assassinating young Avatar Temi to try again with the Fire Nation.
*The world (and the Red Lotus searched) waited for the next avatar to appear, but it's been a good few years (however old you character is Flameclaw) and no one has found the avatar. However, a new recruit to to a gang associated with the Red Lotus suddenly bends an element other than fire, and the Red Lotus takes action.
*They offer to sponsor and pay his way to being an elite Probender, in exchange for him doing odd jobs for them under the pretense of bettering the world. Simultaneously, they offer to help him train this new element he has shown capacity for 'completely free' of charge, under the pretext that if he has control over it, there will be less chance of something unusual happening in a match.
Future plot points_______
* Once the Avtar breaks out it's proposed that they travel to the Mother of Faces to change the avatar's face so he can't be rediscovered easily and can learn the elements in peace

Alright so I could not think of anything for the longest time, but I might have an idea cooking now if anyone is still interested.
The world doesn't know where the avatar is (maybe an Earth cycle avatar, born in some obscure village maybe? Regardless, the Avatar has chosen to try and hide and stay out of The spotlight) but some others decided that they need to find the Avatar to help them with issues that their people are dealing with.
E.g
One comes from a city that is being attacked by angry spirits, and they need the help of the avatar to find balance between the natural world and mechanisation. I know this was kind of explored in Korra's storyline but it seems fun to me idk
Maybe the Water Tribes are on the brink of War again and a person from the Water Tribe wants help?
Maybe a member of the new Air Nation needs help as well? Or maybe this is where the Avatar is born and is so intimidated by Avatar Aang's legacy that they try to cover up that they are the Avatar in fear that they will never do anything as good as previous avatars?

Would the Fire Nation be angling to use the avatar as a weapon? Why are the other nations ostracising the Fire Nation? In my mind, I'm kind of thinking some time after Korra. Idk it didn't seem as if there were and WW2 vibes around where the Fire Nation was forced to repay the other nations which drives them into the ground and thus they attack again to get on top of that/ created a vacuum for a powerful person to rise?

Well, the fire nation has always been pretty powerful, but because they've started growing again after Zuko's death, the other clans are worried the fire nation will rise up again. The air nomads would still be a rather small group. The Earth Kingdom, or Empire as it would now be known after Kuvira, became a democracy, but since it's politicians are too corrupt and everything is too unstable, I'd say they closed off their borders to stop others from entering, even when the next avatar is born to their kingdom. That leaves the fire nation and water tribes.
Then again, we could start with the next avatar, which would be in the earth kingdom. They could be the catalyst to fix the politics and corrupt officials and turn the earth kingdom into a true democracy.

I would like to set it after Korra, maybe in the fire cycle born avatar. It would probably work better with Pearl's idea of the Fire Nation.
I really want to incorporate some spirits stuff, which should be easy considering Korra merged the two worlds.
Maybe the fire nation found the avatar early and sequestered them with the intention that if things did get out of hand, considered the nation is being ostracised, that they would use the avatar against the other nations. Then we could have some other characters go in undercover in search of the avatar and they reveal that the fire nation has been lying to them, and the world is not really as bad as what they think but it still needs the avatar.
Avatar breaks out but is really struggling with the fact that the fire nation leaders lied to them their whole life and they were basically raised as a weapon, which is the exact opposite of what the avatar is supposed to do. The avatar proposes to the group that they should travel to the Mother of Faces to change their identity in order to not be taken by the fire nation. But in doing so the Mother of Faces wipes the avatar's memory as well.

That could be interesting and fun. Another idea would be that a powerful group of evil benders infiltrate the Fire Nation and are like pulling the strings of the government, using them as puppets to further their own goals, and maybe the avatar is the child of one of the members, but ran away because the group of benders were trying to use the avatar as their personal weapon to take over the world. And now the group of benders is searching all over, trying to find the avatar who ran away.
I was planning on making a fire bender character, but they wouldn’t necessarily need to be the avatar, if someone else wants theirs to be

And that could be the reason why they want to go to the Mother of Faces, to change their identity so they can't be found as easily. Inadvertently it wipes their memory and the have to relearn what they already knew? Like maybe they had already mastered some of the elements But maybe relearning is also made harder because the Earth nation is on edge and has closed their borders as Pearl said. Can do some fun stuff in there as well maybe. I would really like to rp an Air Nomad or Earth Bender so I'm happy if you want to be the avatar. If Pearl is happy with that too |

But if you want to keep up with the actual Avatar cycle, then the next one would be an Earth bending avatar: Fire, Air, Water, Earth I know but I'm happy to skip over the Earth cycle to do a fire nation avatar we can give the earth avatar a name if we need to reference them |

They'd need to kill the earth avatar as a child, like Korra's age when she was discovered.
An avatar similar to the combustion bender might be too op, but at the same time, the avatar would be able to do it because they're the avatar with control over the elements. Especially since they were born a fire bender, combustion would probably be really easy.

I mean maybe an Avatar that combustion bends is exactly what this plot needs. The concept of the avatar being used as a weapon is unsettling enough but having him be able to combustion bend as well would make the threat level go through the roof.
Maybe he isn't being held captive necessarily but he joined up because his ideals lined up somehow? He can still travel, but after travelling for a long time he accidentally bended one of the other elements and the group found out and offered for him to join them, and if he does he can live a life of luxury in the palace and after travelling he takes up the offer to be comfortable?

Maybe he travelled in the past, when he was done, he got tied in with the group while doing odd jobs for the criminal underground, though they lie to him, pretending like they are former criminals who are trying to turn over a new leaf. They see he accidentally bends another element and finds out he’s the Avatar, and they offer to sponsor and pay his way to being an elite Probender, in exchange for him doing odd jobs for them under the pretense of bettering the world, and whatever they ask him to do seems harmless to him, but the jobs end up strengthening the groups ties to powerful figures who would back and support them, and strengthen their foothold over the Fire Nation?
Though nobody knows that the avatar can Combustion Bend, since he hides that fact, keeping a bandana wrapped around his forehead, hiding his third eye. Something happened in his past, and he swore to never Combustion Bend ever again, though he will end up having to use that power sometime in the future.

Yes I love that. Sounds like an awesome backstory to me! I have to get to work on my character lol. Also sorry I'm being a bit slow rn, it's flat out at work and I'm by myself most days and it's crazy I'll do a quick recap of the plot sometime soon to clarify it and see that we are all happy so far |

Perhaps this is where Pearl you can come in? I'm not sure what element you want you character to bend but it could be that maybe your character has infiltrated for some reason (or even maybe they just want to be there) and they get paired up with the avatar on the probending team and they find out that their teammate is the avatar.
I still personally would like to really rp an Air Nomad, maybe they somehow know about the Red Lotus and when they find out who the avatar is and that they are with the Red Lotus he makes it his mission to get the avatar out. Could be that Pearl and my OC's are on the same team, with Pearl's being on the inside and mine on the outside and together they convince the avatar to leave?
