To those curious, this is how they explain Mothwing still not believing in StarClan.
Even though she'd witnessed the great battle with the Dark Forest, she'd never truly believed that those cats were her own ancestors, but simply thought of them rogues from beyond Clan territory.
Though, it begs the question...who in the world told Alderpaw that Mothwing doesn't believe in StarClan?!

Well, that answers that. Seriously though, really Mothwing?
And I'm guessing either Leafpool or Jayfeather told him.

It's a secret that I don't think Mothwing wanted every single cat to know about. Maybe they assumed he was going to find out eventually and decided to tell him sooner rather than later? That's the only explanation I can gather for now.

O...K...
That still makes no sense. There were cats still alive from the Old Forest in her Clan you mean to tell me that those Clanmates who recognized those cats and might have mentioned them being former warriors of not just there Clan but other Clans were all just hallucinating?

Wow. This makes me kind of wish that Hawkfrost had gone and attacked RiverClan instead of ThunderClan...

I personally think having Leopardstar and probably Mistystar die and come back to life multiple times- and Mothwing probably there 90% of the time to witness it is enough proof, even without the dark forest battle. "What if she just assumes they never died and just stopped breathing for a few moments or something"- She's a medicine cat. And if she's as good as everyone says she is she could recognize when someone dies and comes back to life. And they don't have CPR either. Once or twice, maybe good luck, sure. But watching it happen to most of Leopardstar's lives and probably some of Mistystar's by now? Come on.
I'll say this again- I think having atheist characters was a good idea. But not in a series where all the leaders are basically demigods- and there's proof they are every time they die. Atheists aren't ignorant- they are logical people who want proof. Keeping Mothwing from believing is harming Atheists, not helping them.
Or maybe the Erins need to back off on StarClan and the dark forest and not turn warriors into The Walking Dead next time :/
Not only that, but since the dark forest cats are more likely to be forgotten, since the clans tend to blot out unpleasant cats from their history, they are more likely to fade- and fade fast. So most of them, except for the infamous ones, are literally faded ghosts. It's stated in the books, and then the wiki paraphrased, that: "Much like in StarClan, cats of the Place of No Stars who are forgotten by all living cats fade away to little more than ghostlike spirits, who haunt the Dark Forest". Jayfeather said, in a more descriptive visit to StarClan, that some were normal like him, some were more faded, and some were barely visable. That had to be the same in the dark forest- if not more.
Sure, some might have been solid enough to look like normal cats. But no way would Mothwing see not a single cat that, if she looked through, she could see the forest through it. And that's not normal.
These are ghosts. Not rogues.
