Tigerclaw got very lucky when Lionheart was killed by ShadowClan during ITW. If he had survived, Lionheart would have been another obstacle standing in Tigerclaw's road to deputyship. Earlier today I started imagining a scenario in which Lionheart was not killed and Tigerclaw had to murder him like he did to Redtail.
Tigerclaw didn't have much of a problem killing Redtail. I do not know if this is just a fandom thing, but typically Redtail is depicted as a pretty small guy, not much of a threat to Tigerclaw. But Lionheart was always described as an absolute unit. Maybe he was not at Tigerclaw's level (since he is like the physically strongest character ever) but I believe he would have been able to hold his own, at least somewhat.
I suppose it depends on the situation. If all things were fair, I would say that Lionheart could probably put up a good fight, at least enough of one to get away and find help from some other cats. But in a different scenario, I doubt he could survive. Tigerclaw had a golden opportunity to murder Redtail, since he was already weakened from the battle for Sunningrocks and was practically ambushed by Tigerclaw. Assuming Lionheart was only injured in the battle, Tigerclaw would have been presented with probably his best chance to kill him. But it is really hard to say for sure.
How do you think a scenario in which Lionheart didn't die would play out? Would Tigerclaw try to pull the same trick on Lionheart that got Cinderpaw injured? Or would he just try to fight him outright? I think that Tigerclaw would probably just find a way to kill him anyways, but I would love to hear what other people think.

This gave me the theory that Tigerclaw became mates with Lionheart's sister, Goldenflower, partially to curry favour with him. It also makes me think whether he conspired with Brokenstar to launch that attack - at the time he was a warrior, so he could go wherever he wanted without anyone really noticing. Perhaps he "agreed" to let Brokenstar keep the kits in exchange for the murder of Lionheart.
Also, I think the books state that Redtail was indeed much smaller than Lion/Tiger/White, and not the best brute fighter, but he was extremely smart and used that to his advantage.

Looking at this from a one on one fight perspective, I think Lionheart and Tigerclaw would have similar fighting styles that use their size to their advantage. Both seem like brute force types so the real question would be who would overpower the other first. Lionheart is older and more experienced and I think his big mane would make it difficult for direct killing bites. I always imagined that the reason he died during the ShadowClan attack was because he was mobbed and overwhelmed. It would probably leave them very evenly matched so if Tigerclaw decided to attack him out of the blue and both were not previously injured, I think it would lean slightly in the favor of Lionheart.
But Tigerclaw definitely plays dirty. There is no way he would fight him without tricks. The thunderpath idea is a good one, leading him into more ambushes, maybe even killing him exactly like Redtail after a border skirmish and putting the blame on another clan.

What Ivysaur said. Lionheart is too good to play dirty which would have probably been his downfall against Tigerclaw.

Has Lionheart had ANY fight on screen? The one in Leopardstar’s Honor where he accidentally killed Whitefang is the only one that comes to mind.
