Chapter 1
Ivypaw was training with Hawkfrost. She enjoyed seeing the sight of blood, imagining her sister's body in a pool of red blood. She grinned, and padded toward her mentor. Mapleshade looked pleased, but Brokenstar looked angry. His teeth were bared into a snarl.
"Stop that, you whiny cat," Mapleshade hissed, snarling at Brokenstar. She unsheathed her claws and gave him a scratch on the ear. Brokenstar whined and padded away. Ivypaw winced. Mapleshade always made her uncomfortable, but she also admired how well-respected she was in the Dark Forest.
"You're training with me today." Mapleshade hissed. She padded toward Ivypaw, who looked uncomfortable. Ivypaw backed away as Mapleshade unsheathed her claws. "Don't you want to kill Dovepaw for ignoring you?" Ivypaw growled and nodded. "Then we must train." The white and orange she-cat padded up to Ivypaw, and crouched down. She leaped at Ivypaw, who backed away in shock. Ivypaw backed away and unsheathed her claws, ducking underneath Mapleshade as she bounced. Mapleshade screeched as Ivypaw slashed her belly and they both stood on their paws. Ivypaw panted, glaring at Mapleshade, who looked faintly surprised.
"Good job, dear," Mapleshade purred. "But I have to be tougher on you." She leaped on Ivypaw again, grabbing her by the neck with her teeth. Ivypaw screeched and leaped away, leaving with a scratched eye. She winced. She almost blinded me! Ivypaw backed away, panting, blood dripping from her eyeball.
"That's enough for now," Mapleshade purred. "Go to sleep, and wake up in your body so you can train and be even stronger than you are now."
Ivypaw nodded and closed her eyes, curling up into a ball. She imagined her nest and began to breathe slowly, and woke up with Dovepaw sleeping next to her. Affection shown in her eyes as she saw her sister sleeping and she wondered if hurting Dovepaw was the right thing to do, but she decided not to make that choice yet. Ivypaw stretched and winced, realizing that she woke up with a scar above her eyeball, that dripped with blood.
Dovepaw was shuffling from her nest and the she-cat padded over to Ivypaw. She let out a squeak of shock. "Ivypaw! You're bleeding!" Ivypaw winced as she saw her sister's worry from her green eyes. Dovepaw licked the blood from her eye but Ivypaw backed away, and her sister gave her a hurt look. "I can take care of it myself," Ivypaw tried to tell her with warmth in her tone. She was glad that Dovepaw cared about her safety. I thought Dovepaw didn't care about me! Maybe I should ask Mapleshade if I can leave the Dark Forest? Ivypaw wondered if they would even let her leave. Dovepaw suddenly disappeared and came back with a mouse in her mouth. "Let's eat before our mentors train us," Dovepaw suggested, laying down with Ivypaw. Before Ivypaw took a bite, another warrior wanted Dovepaw's attention.
"Dovepaw!" It was Leafpool, the former medicine cat, who called for her. "Join us on a hunting patrol so we can catch some food!"
Dovepaw purred and then looked at her sister with a guilty look. Ivypaw held back in a snarl of anger. "Just go." she hissed, shoving the mouse aside. She wasn't hungry anymore. The Dark Forest warriors were all she had. Dovepaw didn't care about her. She watched her sister pad away from her but noticed her tail was down as if she wanted to spend some time with her. All I want is my sister, but I feel like I have nothing. Ivypaw decided to go back to sleep and visit the Dark Forest warriors in her dreams.
