I just finished the newest book. Grieving for Range right now. The way he went out was so horrible. He seemed to genuinely like Chase (his concern for her was really cute). I believe Chase could have eventually turned him into an ally. And like Chase was thinking, he could have been a different leopard before being bitten.
I have a bit of annoyance too because the trend of killing off someone who has feelings for a PoV character when they're not to be the one to end up with them continues. Frog. Forest. Lucky for Gracious, Fearless died so her death would have been pointless. But now Range ends up in the pile. Note to self, don't get yourself into an unreciprocated romance with a main character in Bravelands or prepare to die.
