After my friends suggested this show to me for the 8th billionth time, I decided to give it a watch. As of right now I'm just finished episode 5, so if you haven't seen beyond that point, you probably shouldn't read beyond this point. The plot so far right now seems pretty interesting, there is this king who is really upset that these dragon people killed his wife, and he wants revenge but woww he gets really bad he is hellbent on killing this dragon girl, who is my favourite character so far btw, her name is Daeneyrs? That is spelled wrong but I can't look up how to actually spell her name because I don't want to be spoiled on anything. She also goes by Khaleesi which means queen, and the king is called Khal and they eat horses! Okay so, Khaleesi has this creepy brother I don't even have an inkling of what his name was, but I ship him with the Lannister brother who looks like Daring Charming from Ever After High, they would go well together. Okay so back to the plot, there was this kid called Bran who saw something he shouldn't have seen and Prince Charming pushed him out the window and he went into a coma. There was another scene where Jon Snow, who is my second favourite character, gives his little sister Arya, except she's his half-sister the fact that he has a different mother than his siblings seems to be a big deal in this show. Well anyway, he gives her a little sword which she names Needle. One day she's practice fighting with the butcher's son, who is called Mycah. Some stuff goes down, this annoying brat called Joffrey starts some crap, this annoying girl called Sansa, who is my least favourite character currently, doesn't even try to defend her own sister against this jerk, I know they're arranged to be married, but that still made me extremely angry. Then Bran wakes up but he can't walk and some ravens come into his window. There's also another plot where Jon Snow and this guy called Tyrion Lannister, who is the brother of Jamie (who is the Prince Charming guy) and of Cersei, who is the mother of the spoiled kid Joffrey. Well they go to the place called The Wall and it's dangerous but I forgot why maybe the Whitewalkers? Well Jon befriends this guy called Sam who is a pathetic wimp that everyone hates, it's really sad. That's basically the plot so far other stuff happen that I didn't add but that's okay. Now that the plot has mostly been covered, I have a prediction... Okay, I don't think that Robert/Richard king is really Joffrey's father, I think it's someone else. It was mentioned about him being blonde and a Lannister, and I thought....'wait, he has his father's surname, which isn't Lannister, because I figured they made a big deal about stuff like that in his show, but then I thought about how his mother is a Lannister, so technically he is too. However, even though my logic for my prediction had holes in it, I'm still sticking to it. Anyway, that's my review on that show so far what are your thoughts on it? Who are your favourite and least favourite characters? Feel free to ask me anything you like as well if you want.

The only thing about got I know is that like, one of the biggest ships that they made canon is incest? Also there's dragons and a sword chair.
Despite me really liking fantasy stories GOT never managed to capture my interest at all. I'm not really sure why. It has all the hallmarks of the kinds of things I like. But it fell flat on me? Idk.

I understand that I honestly felt the same way, but people kept talking about it so I decided to see what was so appealing about it. If I finish this show I plan to do the same with Breaking Bad it doesn't seem interesting to me, but everyone seems to talk about it.

I watched all eight seasons of GOT. Personally, I thought the plot was decent enough, but the show overall was definitely overhyped. It might be because I watched most of the show around the time that season 7 aired, so I had a more continual viewing experience than the people who followed it live from early on.
The story is interesting and entertaining enough, so I think it's worth watching for that. The writing quality holds up pretty well until about season six (then it becomes garbage). Imo, GOT gets an undeserved amount of praise by the public for its story -- it is good, but it's not mind-blowing. The general public is just so used to mediocre TV/movie writing that anything decent seems remarkable by comparison. I think that's because GOT was willing to kill of main characters/heroes, and people are so used to plot armor that they mistook it as "groundbreaking" and "crazy" rather than just... a common aspect of well-written stories. It added a layer of danger audiences weren't accustomed to. When you reconcile that, the story is solid but not revolutionary or ingenious.
Interestingly, I've talked to other people who went back and rewatched the whole show after the finale, and they subsequently coming to the same conclusion: it was a good show, but not 'one of the greatest TV shows' or as 'amazing' as they once thought, even disregarding the later seasons.
Also, just a personal opinion, but the overly-graphic depictions of sex and assault was completely unnecessary to the viewing experience. Some scenes were basically softcore p*rn and it left a bad taste in my mouth while watching an otherwise entertaining show.
Anyways, enjoy watching! I'm curious to see how your opinion on the show and certain characters evolve over time. I personally enjoyed Jaime's and Sansa's respective character arcs the most.

I watched the first episode of GOT a few years ago together with a friend of mine who was quite into this show. Not my cup of tea though. Too much incest and an overall dreary atmosphere which made me sad.

SpinestarIf you don't mind answering, how would you say the books differ from the show? ℊℓоωThat does tend to happen in most shows...Teen Wolf is one that comes to mind, but I'm sure loads of people would disagree. I can't wait to see what will happen with the characters, I'm sure I'll change my mind on some of them. My best friend took a personality quiz and got Sansa soo lmao. Saint AmbrosefThanks! ^^ I can't wait to see their character arcs, as long as the character arcs of the other characters, I have a feeling that some characters who start out as good, turn out bad, which is sad, but I doubt it won't happen. I already know that characters who start out as bad or annoying will turn out good or something. Oh yeah I find a lot of shows and movies tend to be overhyped and on the other side of the coin, a lot of shows and movies tend to be overhated, at least I didn't think they were as bad as the hate they get. I agree about some of the scenes being too much, the violence scenes too, I didn't even watch the jousting part, but I still had to fast forward through some of that scene, because the sounds were too much. I'm still pretty invested though, I want to see if my prediction is correct. BҽɾɾყႦʅσσɱI understand that. There have been several times that I watched shows with friends and they just didn't vibe for me.

I watched the show as it aired from about season 3? And I read the books as well once I started watching it. I think the first three seasons are excellent, and then season 4 kinda started faltering and from there on out it was a downhill slide with the exception of some parts of season 6. I mostly think this is cause it starts diverging from the books after season 3 cause the last two books aren't out yet, and the showrunners just never had as good of an idea on how to write the story as the author did. The last two seasons also just felt super rushed which didn't help. I think its overall an entertaining time but the depictions of violence got to me in ways few media does, and I'm usually decently okay with gore/character death. Season 5 sticks out as the worst season in terms of this, and I remember I almost stopped watching near the end of that season because some of the stuff that went down was just that sickening. Still love Sansa tho, would happily watch/read a spinoff about her <3

With any show/movie that's based off a book, I like watching the show/movie first, because I find it tends to be way less disappointing that way. There's a show that I'm pretty invested in called Outlander which I almost stopped watching because of certain scenes...I heard they're even WORSE in the book though!! I look forward to seeing Sansa's character arc.

I’ve both read the books (there are 5 out plus some supplemental material) and watched the whole show. I like the plot and the characters best: strong characters, interesting plot. (I think Jon Snow is probably my favorite character overall.) Decent worldbuilding. Both the book and show - but especially the show - are too graphic for my taste, both in adult content and violence, and despite the engaging story I can’t recommend it to a lot of people. The show itself has a strong first four seasons and a decent enough fifth iirc, but goes downhill from there - which makes sense since S5 is about where it caught up to the books and diverged into its own thing. The ending was disappointing, especially after I’ve learned that they misrepresented scenes to at least one actor so they didn’t know what was really going on in that scene until it was edited together and they saw the live premiere of the episode. Just sooo poorly handled. If I finish this show I plan to do the same with Breaking Bad it doesn't seem interesting to me, but everyone seems to talk about it. I definitely recommend Breaking Bad.

The more I hear about all the graphic scenes, the less appealing it seems, I think I might just fast forward through those parts though. That sounds odd, that they misrepresented scenes, I wonder why they did that? Or if it was even on purpose? Maybe it was to make a twist or something seem more legit so even the actor was surprised too. I'll check out Breaking Bad soon.

Of all the things I expected to see on this thread, Viserys x Jaime was NOT ONE OF THEM JNWAEAJKEWA I hope you like the show! It was a great outlet for me over the years. The last few seasons are irritatingly poorly written, but Daenerys is still one of my favorite characters from any media! Also, in terms of the graphic scenes, here comes my take! o: Spoilers for a character dying. Viserys' death is the only one I couldn't watch. Extreme fear of heat LMAO. If you get through that, and a guy's leg getting cut off, you might be able to bear the rest of the show! No other scenes stand out to me as making me queasy, but I haven't seen it in a long while. Thank you!! I'll be happy to discuss it more with you once I get further into it if you like. I didn't read the spoilers btw. Also glad you found my ship amusing

I'm currently on episode 8 and wow it's getting intense! once again, if you haven't watched up to this point, you probably don't want to read further. MY PREDICTION WAS RIGHT!?! I mean ofc but I wasn't expecting them to just reveal it right out of the gate!! I also now know why Cersei was trying to keep her love affair a secret at first I thought it was because they're related, but that stuff is common back then so I don't think she cared much about that thinking about it, what she was really upset about was that it would be revealed that Joffrey isn't the rightful king. Part of me thinks she wants to use him as a puppet but I do like how much she cares about her family. Something shocking happened though to the dragon brother, I thought he was going to be an annoyance in the show for awhile but I'm pretty sure he's dead now. They took melted metal and poured it over his head! Dany was like "He wasn't a true dragon, the fire killed him." the exact quote may be off but it's pretty telling that he's dead. I have a feeling he'll be back though, they wouldn't kill him off just like that, there's gotta be a twist somewhere... Oh Richard/Robert (the king) also died because of a boar. This show is starting to get pretty interesting, it could do with less x-rated topics but I'm invested.

Ayy, you can read my spoiler now, then! Also early GoT is well known for killing off characters, get attached wisely ajwekwnJKEKWAEJKNWAKJ I'll keep that in mind though I don't think I've gotten super attached to anyone yet. One minute I think maybe I like this character, and then I'm like oh nvm they suck, or I'll be like this character sucks but they're kind of attractive so I hope they stay around for awhile lmao. Like shortly before the dragon brother died I thought about how he kind has a nice face and then BAM!!! I know he has a name and I know you've said it in this thread but I like dragon brother better. What's the story with the squire Lannister cousin? I forgot his name but if he's related to them why doesn't he seem as important as everyone else? maybe because he's a cousin and not a sibling? I just find it odd that all the rich people seem so important and he's just...there. I have a feeling that some questions will be answered the more I watch though.

O: The "get the breastplate stretcher" kid? LMAO It's been awhile since I watched, but I do think you're right and that it's related to him not being from "THE" Lannister family; that is being one of Tywin's kids. I know there's some dialogue with Jaime where someone mentions 'i'm a lannister but im not like... a LANNISTER like you' - so i think that's why he's just kinda. whipped around LMAO Ohh I get it..that makes sense thanks! I have a feeling that there's more to him that meets the eye like maybe he and the Theon Greyjoy guy will team up and do something bad or something, they just seem like the type who'd end up being a rat or maybe they'll die. I pair them together idk why they seem to have the same aura even though they're probably much different...Greyjoy does seem to have a bit of an edge of Lancel though but I do love his name...actually they both have pretty cool names. This series has a lot of pretty names like Jorah? That is so pretty and Theon Greyjoy has a whole nice name, I like a lot of the names in this show. I still find it hard to believe that I'm actually invested in this show lmao.

MKEWAKLE Soo true bestie I stan Jorah and his name and his friend-zoned butt. It does have a lot of really nice names! And then there's Joffrey. LEMWALKEAWE I'm glad you're enjoying it! I didn't realize just how much I remembered about this show until talking about it with you EJHBWABEWAH so I'm having fun too. I actually own a signed picture from Joffrey's actor! It was signed to my deadname, so I did end up leaving it with my mom when I moved, but just really cool! I've got a picture of it somewhere on my phone,, He stopped by our state for an event and my aunt got it for me as a birthday gift one year. I have Lannister and Baratheon(can you guess my favorite family LMAOA) shot glasses that like, I'd cry if ever broke LMAO So yeah, big nerd. Throw GoT conversation at me whenever you want to omgosh that's sooo cool!!! I'm guessing his actor is loads different than the character he plays? lmao. I hope you're able to get a signed picture again with your actual name someday soon if that's possible. I'm not sure who my favourite family is yet I'm still watching it to figure out who they all are lmao. do you ever use your shot glasses or are they just for decorations? if you're like my friend then you probably haven't even taken them out of the box. I'm really glad you're having fun ^^ it is a lot of fun, and it's also interesting that my predictions might be coming true lmao is it psychic powers? or is it something else? I haven't seen any episodes since my last review but there are some things I forgot to talk about. like I thought about them while I was watching the show and planning my review but when it came time I forgot but here it is now...spoilers..you know the drill. Dany had to eat the heart of a horse it's interesting how their culture is strongly tied to horses like does each house have their own animal? Like how King Robchard had the stag as his. ngl Sansa and Joffrey are kind of cute together they seem to really like each other but it was a bit cringe to see Joffrey say all that stuff because he's like 14 or something and that's something you'd expect to hear from some older guy in a romance novel I'm not trying to rip on kids in love but that just made me laugh. this makes way for my new prediction though! I don't think they're going to have a happy ending like things seem good now...but will it last? I think that Sansa might die and that's part of her character arc and Joffrey's going to be married to Arya to connect the two families...but that's a match made in hell if I've ever seen one. or maybe I could be way off base and Sansa and Joffrey do get married and she has many golden haired children like she wants. speaking of hair, I love how the Ned Stark was reading about the past kings of the family and it all mentioned them all having black hair and that's how he figured it out like..that's how genetics work lmaooo. I know that's how I came to the conclusion myself them briefly mentioning his hair colour in a previous episode but still that being the reason he figures it out in the show is soooo funny to me. honestly, I laughed a lot during these last couple of episodes I know it's supposed to be serious and it is but my sense of humour is a bit whack ig.
other things that happened was that Tyrion was put in jail because they thought he sent someone to kill Bran. he tells this guard "a Lannister always repays their debts." and I think he said another one and it is a bit frustrating because it comes back later on in the episode when Jaime says the same thing but I'm pretty sure he meant something different and someone is about to get messed up. but I was like "Yessssss!!!" about that because I find it cool how things connect and I love a good revenge story. anyway, he goes into this room in front of everyone and there's this random annoying kid there who I'm sure is important but idk him yet. so anyway, it is agreed that Tyrion will fight to the death for his freedom or something and everyone is like "Bruh he's like 4 feet tall nooo way." so they're like "a challenger can be picked." I thought he was going to pick his own challenger and if I was in that position I would have picked the kid because no one is going to fight a kid especially not one as important as this one seems to be so it's an easy win right? but that didn't happen and this other guy agreed to fight and he won! so alls well that ends well.
I don't remember if I mentioned this in my last post, but Jon Snow did not get to be a ranger like he wanted and instead he was listed as a steward, he became a bit of a brat about it, but I understand it. being part of the watch sounds terrible!! they have to live by their post and die by it, never finding love or starting a family or anything!! imagine having to the same thing day in and day out. speaking of the watch people...Idk why but I find Sam soo adorable he's like a little puppy that you just wanna hug but I have a feeling he's either go die or go to the dark side.
okay I think this is the end of my review frl now

i love a song of ice and fire lore. i suck at explaining though
the house sigils:
starks- direwolf. a well known creature of the north. lannister- lion. origin story for the house involves lion cubs, but it's most likely not based on true events targaryeon- dragon. obviously, they used to have dragons. tyrell- golden rose in green grass. they r rich and beautiful. also have to do with agriculture i think? i forget. tully- trout. they live in riverrun, and rivers have trout. also, swimming up river as a metaphor for strength. bolton- flayed man. violence and cruelty to get what they want. martell- red sun pierced by a spear. they live in the southern desserty, sunny area of the continent. the sun represents nymeria and the spear represents mors martell (they conquered dorne together) greyjoy- kraken. fierce water creature. they r about ocean gods and stuff. baratheon- deer/stag. aggressive as a rampaging stag. arryn- falcon and crecent moon. origin of the house involving a story of a falcon and a mountain.

I'm not sure if I've seen the Tyrells yet there are a lottt of characters to keep track. there was this guy who is SUPER hot even though he kinda looks like a rat with black and grey hair and I was like "who is this random person?" but I then learned that he's probably the same guy who was simping for Catelyn, he's another character I can't be bothered to learn the name of but he is niceee looking ngl.

I'm not sure if I've seen the Tyrells yet there are a lottt of characters to keep track. there was this guy who is SUPER hot even though he kinda looks like a rat with black and grey hair and I was like "who is this random person?" but I then learned that he's probably the same guy who was simping for Catelyn, he's another character I can't be bothered to learn the name of but he is niceee looking ngl. omg do u mean petyr/little finger? ngl the actor is handsome asdfghjk

ᏞᎪᎠᎽ Ꮎf fᎪᏁᎠᎾms ミ☆ yesss! him!! thanks! he has a nice name too..he isss right before the actor for the dragon brother died, I noticed that he was pretty attractive too and it made his death a little bit sad. I looked up his actor (the dragon bro's) he looks even BETTER with short dark hair!...actually.. I was just thinking and he looks really good with blond hair too. I turned this thread into a different direction I think. it's no longer the GOT review thread! it's now...THE GOT SIMP THREAD!!! /s.

omg I just realised something!!! I highllyyyy doubt it's important but I still found it interesting. I'm spoilering it because of spoilers. Jon, Sam, and Pyp all got listed as stewards and all their names have just three letters!

I've actually been thinking a lot lately and while I do feel an emotional attraction towards women I'm beginning to realise the physical aspect isn't really there for me so I don't really notice them much in that way, but they are very pretty.

I'm on season 3 episode 2, and I have many words...spoilers ahead. I'm actually questioning my last response on this thread after see Margary? Margery? Margeary? Tyrell...she is sooo pretty and nice, but i wonder if she could secretly be hiding something? she's my favourite character right now followed by this onion guy i don't remember his name, but he made his sigil the onion and he's the son of a crabber my third favourite character is this guy named Davos who is trying to get King Stannis to see the light and protect him against the evil fire lady. right now i am rooting for King Stannis to win it's his legal right. Renly who was his brother who was also vying for the spot before he died had a very pretty crown and I liked him he seemed nice in the short time he was on the show. my least favourite character right now is Theon, like i can get why he'd be upset but ffs!! he literally burned two kids alive it might not have been him who did it but he's still pretty much the one who called for it..i hope no one ever forgives him and he dies alone in hell. Joffrey is probably my second least favourite character this kid is straight up evil and also he's 17 not 14 like i thought..i might change my mind and exchange the onion guy on my favourite character list to the random peasant who threw cow crap at Joffrey because that was funny...but then it turned less funny when they literally ripped a man apart in the streets..my third least favourite character is i haven't decided yet, there are like 35353 characters it's hard to pick top favourites and least favourites. i can't believe they killed Nedd Stark!!! he was an important character...i wonder if this is a fake out and he's still alive? i'm tired so that's all i'm going to write for now but i'll be back to add more.
