ABOUT
CoastalClan lives in a mainly tropical territory, based loosely on both the Mediterranean and Hawaiian cultures and geographical areas. Therefore, cats are usually shorter to medium furred with sleek coats that help them cut more easily through the water. This of course isn't always the case but due to the high temperatures nearly all year round, it does make having long coats a bit uncomfortable at times. Thicker pelts can be useful against cold water, however. Cats are normally lean and agile, used to swimming nearly every day and running over dunes. CoastalClan cats' pelts differ in colors and patterns, though pitch black pelts tend to be rarer on the island.
Our ranking system is a bit different from that of the average clan, as we don't have general a general ranking but many smaller rankings for full-fledged members of the clan. Kittens and apprentices are given many opportunities to experience the different jobs and decide which path they wish to take, there is no pressure to make the choice right after being made an apprentice. In fact, apprentices are given a half-moon to make a decision and at their Choosing Ceremony, they decide the path they wish to take and are assigned an official mentor. The ranks are as follows:
Guards - They're usually out of camp watching the territory. The deputy will assign each cat a night or day shift and all guards report back to the deputy. They are the ones who mark borders and keep the clan safe from outside threats. Some guards are always assigned to keep an eye on the camp, though this job is rotated to keep it fair.
Hunters - They prowl the dunes and even the Wilds looking for food. They also keep track of the homes of any dangerous animals like eagle nests and otter dens.
Fishers - though every cat is trained to swim and fish, Fishers are professionals and trained at a much higher extent than others and can safely navigate the churning ocean waters. A team of the best fishers may be able to take down bigger fish.
Collectors - These cats search for resources in the land and usually have basic medical training. They'll often help take care of the queens and kits as well.
The Council - Not quite a rank in and of itself, as the members of this rank are members of another rank. Being part of this rank is a high honor as there are only three or four cats on it and they work very closely with the leader and deputy. Most often the members will be older warriors, but it isn't uncommon to see a younger warrior in their ranks.
Also, along with StarClan, our cats believe in the Deep Dark. This is a place far under the ocean where only the darkest evils hide and if cats who committed crimes or who were cruel of mind and spirit die within the clan, this is where we believe they go. TRADITIONS
Newborn Kits - The celebration of newborn kits is no small affair. Kittens are the future of our clan, little paws who will one day fight and hunt to keep CoastalClan thriving. The clan throws a huge feast, with prey shared between friends and family, lively mock-battles, swapped stories, and most importantly, well wishes for the new parents. Kin, or even friends, of the parents will often leave gifts for the parents outside the nursery.
Choosing Ceremony - This takes place a half-moon after an apprentice ceremony. Before this, the young cat is given a chance by all four possible ranks to learn what the job is like and if they have any aptitude for it. During a Choosing Ceremony, the apprentice is surrounded by the clan in a large circle and four stones are sat near them. One stone is pale gray and has the image of a feather drawn on it - this is the Hunter stone. The second stone is more reddish-brown and has a leaf painted on it which is the Collectors stone. The dark gray stone with claw marks on it is the Guard stone and the white stone with the imprint of a fossilized fish fin is the Fisher stone. The leader announces the apprentice's name and their parent's names. Then the apprentice chooses the stone that represents which path they'd like to follow, and the leader assigns them a mentor from that rank. The Choosing Ceremony is closed with a swim between mentor and apprentice to form a bond.
Unity Ceremony - After a couple agrees to become mates, it is custom to plan a mating ceremony. This can take place a few days after the proposal or the next day, depending on how busy the clan is. The ceremony always takes place at sunset. Both partners are helped prepare for the ceremony on separate sides of Crescent Cove, usually by their friends and families. Their fur is perfumed with mint, rosemary, and vanilla. The whole clan gathers around the cove, though the cats nearest to the front are the family and friends closest to the pair. The couple meets at the center of the curved cove, right near the water's edge, where the leader/deputy and medicine cat are waiting for them. Each cat must choose their closest friend (acting as sort of a best man/bridesmaid) and they are called the Gift Bearers and once it's time to exchange words the mated cats will offer the other some type of trinket that they caught/found that is a symbol of their love, given to them by their Gift Bearer so that they don't have to carry it up themselves. Then they are relieved of their duties for the rest of the night spend their first night alone at Crescent Cove while the rest of the clan heads back to the camp for a small feast. Leader/Deputy: "We gather under the wakening of Starclan so that they may witness these two souls merge for life. (medicine cat) will now adorn the two cats with a chain of flowers that symbolize their unity and give them Starclan's blessing." Then the medicine cat places a lei of flowers around the couple's necks.
Medicine Cat: "I bestow the blessing of Starclan upon these two cats so that their spirits shall always be connected, even in death. May the have a long, prosperous and fruitful life together."
Deputy: "Now may the Gift Bearers step forward and recognize the relationship of Blankface and Furpelt."
Gift Bearers: "We honor the relationship of Blankface and Furpelt." (They can also have the power to say that they don't.) Then they give the pair the gifts that they got each other.
The cats in love: "I give you this (trinket) because (explanation)."
Deputy, after the exchange of gifts: "With the influence of Starclan by your side, may you two live long lives together. Now share breath and tongues to bind your fate."
The cats in love: Touch noses then share tongues.
The clan cheers their names and then gives them a few more well wishes before beginning the journey back to camp.
Flower Gathering - Taking place at least twice every season, many adult felines gather together and head out to Crescent Cove. Each cat that goes is given a flower to place behind their ear. If placed behind their left ear this signals that the cat has a partner and is in a committed relationship. If the flower is placed behind the right ear, then the cat is single and ready to mingle with others. Basically it's like a huge date night/mixer type of event.
New Leaders - When a deputy becomes a leader, they are given their nine lives by StarClan. When they arrive home from a trip to the Moon Pool, the clan will have made a new lei for the cat to wear on their head, as well as a larger one for their new deputy to wear around their neck.
Cursed Rocks - It is forbidden to take rocks from the main beach, as there is a superstition about this causing bad luck or bringing a curse down upon the cat who dares disturb the beach which gives them so much life - in the form of food.
Greetings - It is more than common for CostalClan cats to greet one another with a touch of noses. It can be considered both polite or personal, depending on how it's executed or how the cat's know one another. This is an exchanging of breath, which holds almost a spiritual part in the clan's belief system.
Clan Games - Once every full moon the clan cats will gather and those who have completed the pre-gathering assessment can compete in a series of challenges. Only 10 cats are allowed to compete in the games where the first round is a relay race of sorts, the first 4 cats that make it move on to the next round. In the hunting round the competing cats must find the two crabs buried in the sand, they'll have to use their hunting skills and the two cats that find them move on to the last round. In the last round, the remaining cats must mount a large driftwood log and battle it out to knock the other off-balance, in a game of best two out of three the cat that wins is named champion. They are gifted with a woven flower necklace and get to place their paw print along with the rock formations that make up Crescent Cove. TERRITORY
Jagged Bluffs - a dangerous area. to be avoided for the most part. A tall and steep cliff-side at the edge of the territory where the water at the bottom is lined with sharp rocks. The soft dirt at the edge of the cliff-side makes it prone for the ground to give out and tumble down towards the water. An unfortunate fall off the edge for any cat would guarantee death. Cats are encouraged to stay away and apprentices are forbidden from coming here without their mentor keeping a close watch. Smaller prey is usually found around the area, hiding in the tall grasses or burrowing in the ground.
Velvet Dunes - soft sandy dunes that apprentices are trained on. Short hills of sand, the Velvet Dunes offer several flat surfaces for mentors to train their apprentices along the sandy coast. The sand always has a little give, causing battle training to be harder than usual but good practice for apprentices to get used to running on such terrain. Several of the dunes are covered in soft reeds that look golden from the sun. There are paths between each dune for cats to walk along, making it easy to go from one short hill to the other.
Crescent Cove - a little cove just outside of territory. Just outside of clan territory resides a small cove shaped like a crescent moon. The cove is blocked off from the rest of the beach by huge rock formations. The only way to get in is through a crawl space that is well hidden from outsiders, its location only known by clan cats. The sand is softer and brighter than the rest of the beach, paw-steps easily sink in and make it easy to fall asleep and lounge on. The water along the cove is shallow and a brilliantly, bright blue color where the stars clearly reflect in the pool of water at night. The cove is a popular spot amongst the clan cats to lay and relax when there's a lot of downtime, or when it's an especially hot day and one is looking to cool off in the clear waters of the cove.
Moon Pool - a small pool in a cave near the cove, where they meet with Starclan. Near the cove is a small cave with an entrance just big enough for a cat to crawl through. Once inside, a cat must belly crawl further into the cave before the tunnel finally expands out. Inside there is a large, open space and a pool of clear, blue water. Medicine cats may only visit the Moon Pool when the moon is at its fullest and at the highest point in the sky, only because it lines up perfectly with the opening in the roof of the cave. The moonbeams pour into the pool of water and illuminate the waters up until the very edge. That's when the cats may dip their faces into bright blue waters and be taken to visit Starclan. Rumor has it that while the cats are asleep, the cats with stars in their pelts will dance down from Starclan on the moonbeams and protect the living cats while they sleep.
Sea Star Grove - a big tide pool near camp that is filled with colorful starfish. A rather large tidal pool between the camp and the ocean that houses many different starfish of all shapes and sizes. There are large, flat rocks that surround the pool that allows cats to lounge on and watch the strange creatures move about. Traditionally, this is a romantic spot where cats frequently confess their enamored feelings to one another. This spot was named after one of the first leaders of Coastalclan who had been a huge flirt until he finally settled down with his mate, having promised himself to her after discovering the tide pool full of starfish together. It's a tradition for the cat who is confessing to bring a sand dollar with them so that the two may break it together. How many 'doves' the broken sand dollar produces represents how well the relationship will turn out; few doves mean the relationship might not work out while a lot of doves mean they were meant to be together. Cats may also interpret the doves as how many kits or litters they will have together.
Rockbound Bay - a rocky beach on one side of territory. A large beach on the other side of the territory that ends up connecting to Crescent Cove. It's mainly a rocky beach where the waves crash over and cause the surfaces to be rather slippery, thus making it hard to walk along. It's also a good place where sea birds like to perch, often sitting together in small swarms so if you miss a bird, it's not out of the question to turn around and hope to get another before they all fly away. Mollusks are also found between the wedges of rocks, good for harvesting, and eating from. The smooth and wet surfaces are perfect for seals and otters to rest on and as long as a cat doesn't bother them, they won't be bothered back.
The Vanishing Pools - these are the tide pools in territory, good place for prey. The Vanishing Pools are a cluster of tide pools along the edge of Rockbound Bay that house several small creatures. The Pools are great fun to relax around and watch the small sea life inside of the waters, they're also a good place to hunt for small crabs, sea sponges, or any type of shellfish. Cats are told to be careful of where they stick their paws in the water as they could be stung by a sea anemone or pricked by a sea urchin.
Clearwater Beach - the main beach, most hunting gets done here. Named after the clan's first medicine cat, this is the beach that Coastelclan's camp sits upon, it's also where most hunting and gathering is done. The sand on the beach is a very pale yellow, almost white when the sun is at its highest while the water is bright and clear turquoise. When the tide is low is a great time for cats to venture out and pick up little sea creatures that got left behind when the water has receded. The camp sits high up on the sands so even when the water is at its highest it's not even close to reaching the walls of the camp. There are many series and sections of reeds or tall beach grasses that are good for hiding in when hunting, or making nests out of.
Palm Circle - a wide clearing of palm trees, herbs grow here. Palm Circle is a wide clearing of palm trees that is full of floral growth. Many of the medicinal herbs are found and collected here, growing in the sandy soil just off of Clearwater Beach. A lot of the flowers bring in bees who make their beehives on some of the palm trees that encircle the clearing. If cats are careful then they may be able to extract some honey from the hives, or just hope enough drips onto some leaves. Occasionally some animals from The Wilds venture into the clearing and if that's the case then cats are to leave the area immediately.
The Wilds - the jungle which makes up half, or at least part of their territory. The Wilds is the busy jungle that is right behind the beach territory of the clan, cats are forbidden from venturing too deep into the vines and trees as there are too many dangers lurking about. Sometimes two-legs will be lingering amongst the foliage, but they never set foot onto the beach. Still, The Wilds are still part of the territory and are used for hunting but not much else, it's normally used as a last resort if there isn't much prey on the beach then a large patrol will be sent into the jungle to hunt and get out as quickly as possible.
Camp - the heart of CoastalClan. CoastalClan makes their camp high on Clearwater beach, where there is little chance for them to be flooded by even the highest of tides. The clan still prepares for the worst however and their nests are built from reeds and woven in a way that allows them to float. The camp is settled deep within the tall beach grasses, encircled by large rocks and pieces of driftwood. The driftwood is sharp in areas and has been fortified to give the camp the appearance of a fortress beside the sea. Inside the camp is nice and airy, with a sand and grass floor. The sky is open and visible from nearly all angles, though there are little alcoves built into the camp walls for shelter when it rains. Only three dens reside within the camp, as most all CoastalClan cats sleep out under the stars. There is a wide clearing in the center with a smooth rock jutting out at the edge - this is Sun Rock, where the leader calls important clan meetings. Surrounding the clearing is softer sand, where the grasses have been flattened and worn, this is where nests are set up. Each cat usually has one nest that they made when they became an apprentice, but placement is purely up to the felines. Families and friends often group together, no matter their age. The fresh-kill pile rests on a pile of frond leaves and reeds in a small underground cave, which can be accessed through a tunnel. The cave is nearly always cool, which keeps prey fresher for longer amounts of time. Leader Den - This den is settled on the backside of Sun Rock, made out of another rock which leans against it and creates a small but cozy little den for the leader and their mate if they have one. Medicine Den - The medicine cat den is by far the largest den, built to accommodate at least three patients plus the medicine cat and their apprentice. It's built from a large hollowed-out piece of driftwood, which is settled close to the camp wall. Cats have carved shelves into the wood over time with their claws, leaving great space for storage. Nursery - The nursery is a heavily protected den made up of palm leaves, reeds, and driftwood. The entrance is around the side and hard to see if you're not accustomed to looking for it. Inside it's as roomy as the den could be made with soft grass and moss placed down on the floor to keep the queens and kits comfortable. EXTRAS
Prey & Predators Cream = Prey Pale Blue = Predator/Potential Danger White = Neutral Underline = Usually taken down by a group of cats
Jagged Bluffs - rodents, seabirds (gulls, puffins, pelicans, eagles), seals, otters. Velvet Dunes - snakes, rodents, spiders, beetles. Crescent Cove - not many animals are found here because it's so well closed off. however, mice, beetles, and spiders might be found in the rocks, the occasional crab, turtle or otter might come up from the water. Vanishing Pools - shore crabs, smaller fish, sea sponges. Rockbound Bay - seabirds, rodents, mollusks. Seals and otters may come up and bask on the rocks. Clearwater Beach - seabirds, fish, crabs, the occasional octopus or horseshoe crab. Palm Circle - rodents, frogs, snakes, bees(good for honey). you'd likely also find mongoose, deer, and bats hanging around the circle. feral cattle, pigs and goats can be dangerous and should be avoided. The Wilds - many birds and insects of all shapes, sizes, and colors. rodents, pigs, jaguars, mongoose, snakes, owls, tapirs, monkeys, and foxes. most animals found in the wilds are dangerous, some could likely be hunted by a team of hunters.
Herb List
Gumbo-limbo - these trees are thick trunked canopy trees with red, constantly peeling bark. They grow near the two-leg village and were once tapped, giving the cats access to the resin within. This can be used topically to help with rashes, sores, and insect bites.
Soursop - a tree which bears large green fruits. The medium sized leaves can be harvested and chewed into a pulp that is useful as an anti-inflammatory. It's great for back-pains and joint problems. Sometimes will be used to fight infections.
Noni - the fruits of this particular tree smell awful, like stale sweat almost. The plant grows both by the shores and deep in the jungle. The juice or even the fruits in severe cases can be taken to help with stomach and intestinal issues. When applied topically it can also be an anti-inflammatory.
Snakewood - a hollow trunked tree with massive leaves and a thin, worm-like fruit - which is adored by birds and bats alike. The leaves when chewed into a pulp are used as a cure for snakebites and rashes. The fruits can also be turned into a pulp which is used to combat sore-throats, colds, and can even be used as a mild calming agent.
Gavilana - is a large leafy herb that grows in the tropics, that is rather bitter. The leaves can be chewed up and placed on wounds to help battle infection.
Sleeping Lady - these plants are sensitive and close when touched, which are where the name comes from. This is great for calming cats and inducing sleep, often used to treat insomnia, depression, and panic-attacks. Also good for calming muscle spasms and nerve pain.
Aloe Vera - Dark green, mostly stem-less plant with long, thick fleshy leaves that fan out from the center. Filled with soothing gel that is great for treating burns and skin irritations.
Anise - Tall plant with yellow or white flowers and oblong shaped fruit. The fruit is great for treating snake bites.
Basil - Tall plant with large, dark green leaves and small, white flowers. It's a catch-all type of herb that medicine cats keep regularly stocked as it helps ease stomach spasms, gas, and colds. It can also help with a loss of appetite and regulate blood circulation. Nursing mothers often take basil after kitting to improve their milk production.
Brahmi - It has small flowers that are light purple or white in color with no more than four or five petals. It has a bitter and sweet taste. It is great as a memory enhancer and can relieve anxiety. It also promotes sleep, strengthens the immune system, relieves arthritis pain, reduces swelling, and helps with dry skin.
Coriander - The small tan seeds of a small plant with asymmetrical pink flowers. The seeds can be ingested to boost the immune system and fight infections.
Cinnamon Bark - Peeled from the trunk of a sharp smelling evergreen, this bark is great for reducing spasms, reducing fevers, and stimulating appetite.
Clove - The flowering buds from an evergreen with small white flowers. Cloves are usually used to treat cats with minor colds and infections.
Comfrey - Small plant with large, broad leaves and small, purple bell-shaped flowers. Roots can be chewed into a poultice to treat broken bones, soothe open wounds, and heal wrenched or twisted claws. The leaves can ease stiffness in muscles and reduce swelling.
Garlic - Strong smelling plant with white roots. Can be chewed and ingested to combat sickness. Can be applied to bites and scratches to prevent infection. Its strong smell can also disguise scent.
Ginger - This sweet-smelling root can be chewed to help with nausea or applied to relief muscle pain, inflammation, and other general pain.
Bayberry - Evergreen shrub with leaves that spiral around the stems and small reddish-purple fruits. Fruits can be eaten to reduce fevers or used in poultices as a topical aid. If too much of the juices are ingested, it can cause a cat to lose their balance and lower their inhibitions.
Horseradish - Thick, low-lying plant with large, crinkly leaves that have ragged edges and tall white flowers on thin stalks. The roots can be swallowed to help ease colds, treat sinus infections, relief pain, ease toothaches, and aid in digestion.
Lime - A tall, thorny bush with round leaves that are narrow in the middle (hourglass shaped). The leaves can be chewed to relieve stress, applied topically to reduce swelling, or made into a poultice to combat fleas and ticks. The tree also has large, round fruits that are highly dangerous if eaten.
Lemongrass - Tall, fern-like grass plant that gives off a faint sharp fruit smell. It is chewed for pain relief and can reduce fevers and swelling. Kitting mothers can chew this to help their kitting along.
Mint - Small plant with many small, triangular leaves. The plant has a very sharp scent and taste. When chewed it can ease a mild cough, headaches, and general aches and pains. It can be rubbed on a queen's belly to encourage kits to nurse. Often used on a dead body to mask the scent of death.
Neem - Tree with long, skinny leaves and white, fragrant flowers. It can be used as to reduce swelling and often given to cats sick with colds.
Nutmeg - The ground seeds from a dark leaved evergreen. Medicine cats use a small rock to crush the seeds. This technique was learned from seagulls who drop oysters from great heights to break them. It can be swallowed to reduce pain.
Spike Plant - Skinny plants with long stems, sparse leaves, and tiny purple flowers. When swallowed, the leaves can ease colds and minor coughs.
Parsley - Low lying plant with broad, crinkly leaves and tiny clumps of yellow or white flowers. No real use although can be used to stop milk flow in queens who have lost their litters. Is known to be poisonous to birds.
Pepper - Cultivated by grinding the fruit of a flowering vine, pepper is a great swelling reducer and pain reliever. It can also suppress appetites, so it's often used in traveling herbs.
Rosemary - Low lying evergreen with needle-like leaves and pink, purple, or white flowers. It has a distinct smell and the leaves can be swallowed to induce vomiting.
Saragundi - Leafy plant with broad leaves and big orange-yellow flowers. Can be used to ease rashes.
Thyme - Has very small, narrow and elliptical, dark leaves. Small, pink stemmed buds grow out of the topmost leaves. Thyme is generally combined with other herbs. Alone can be eaten to treat headaches and toothaches.
Turmeric - Tall, distinctly shaped plants with yellow-orange cone shaped stems. At the top of the cone the leaves are normally white or green and every so often sprout a large purple flower. The roots can be ground and/or chewed to reduce swelling and relieve arthritis pain. Often taken with pepper to increase effectiveness.
Vanilla - Green seed pods from a broad-leaved plant with small yellow flowers. It is a great fever reducer. Like the mint it can be applied to queens' bellies to encourage nursing. Climate Low Tide - the water is pretty low during the warmer months, allowing for more prey to be caught. The heat can get to very high, very intense temperatures during this time.
Storm Tide - this is a time during the end of Low Tide and the beginning of Quick Tide, where tropical storms are incredibly common.
[x] Quick Tide - coming down from Storm Tide, the waters are still a bit choppy and can be a bit harsher to swim against.
High Tide - despite not experiencing cold weather, High Tide is when the heat subsides to a much cooler, more comfortable level. However, the water can be very cold making it dangerous to swim in.
Slow Tide - the water is beginning to calm itself down and storms are very rare during this season, though it does rain often.

Mentors & Apprentices Goldenstrike - - Brightpaw Sharptalon - - Spiderpaw Berrytangle - - Tealpaw Coconutsky - - Oceanpaw PLOTS
Main Plot ; Dunestripe is a carefree kind of guy, doesn't feel like he needs to work hard, and things will always go well for him. One thing that he finds really annoying is always getting confessed to, because he always turns them down and has to break some poor molly or tomcats heart. Whispers start behind his back and he doesn't want to start having a difficult reputation because he's always rejecting cats who just like him for his looks. Violetshine is very hardworking, feels like she has something to prove for having grown up outside of the clan. She faced a lot of backlash for it when she was younger, especially getting teased a lot by Dunestripe (though he would deny any of this). Always the first to volunteer, and to try and bring back the most prey, she tends to look down on those who don't try to put any effort into the clan. Her friends, who all have mates, one who's expecting kits, try to convince her to take it easy and find love, they even attempt to set her up on blind dates.
Suddenly fed up with his worsening reputation, Dunestripe approaches Violetshine with a proposition. They should fake date. Why? Because they need something from each other, and they hate each other so there's no possible chance to fall in love (or so they think). Dunestripe, while wanting to cease confessions, also has revenge on his mind. He wants to make his ex-partner jealous and hopefully make them want to take him back. It doesn't sit right with Violetshine, but a promise is a promise, and she's determined to see this through. Plus, she might be just that desperate to get her friends to back off.
Side Plots ; [always open, don't be afraid to suggest!] list here.

Violetshine, don't you think it's about time you seriously start considering finding a mate?
Turtleheart's words echo in her ears and bounce around her thoughts as she crouches down, soft belly fur brushing the velvety sand as she hides behind the tall grass and reeds of the beach. It was hard to banish her best friends comments from her head, her fur prickling with annoyance before she forces it to lay flat, not wanting to tempt the idea of losing the prey she was stalking. Her bright, violet eyes track the movement of a gull as it picks at the empty shell of what once was a crab.
It happens in a flash of silver and black, with the molly having successfully dove in and killing the bird off with a swift bite. A feeling of pride rushes through her at such a prized catch, knowing this would feed their clan that has dwindled in numbers ever since the big wave. With a trot in her step, Violetshine goes off to find Aloebreeze, to see if the cream hunter had caught anything and was ready to go back to camp to drop off their bounty. Turtleheart grunts through her teeth as she drags a piece of driftwood over to the half-rebuilt den of what used to be the nursery. She manages to get it close to the makeshift wall but knows that even lifting the jagged wood to fortify it was going to be impossible, and she knows that if Mantaclaw were to catch her even attempting it then she'd be receiving quite the earful, telling her she should be resting anyways
The queen sits with her back against the driftwood, using its support to try and alleviate the weight of her round belly. A purr rises up in her throat as she feels some movement stirring, face contorting at the strange sensation that she's had to accommodate to over this past moon. Her eyes sweep over the camp and she can't help but let out a sigh at its state, remembering how destroyed the clearing looked when the water finally receded. The only things that remained in the wreckage was the hollowed out Medicine Cat's den, and the bigger piece of Sun Rock.
Letting out another grunt, Turtleheart is back on her feet and begins to pad over to the outside of the camp with staggering pawsteps, hoping to find her mate on duty as well as the opportunity to catch her friends coming back from their respective patrols.
Pearlwave with Sheerwater, Dunestripe and Minnowfern Sea Star Grove @ little blu ♥ Pearlwave's tail tip flicks impatiently as she sits close beside Sheerwater. Her muscles ache from a day of clearing off a section of the beach, which included getting rid of large branches, and pushing rocks back into the water. She can't help but think that the guards, or even the hunters, would've been better options but she did recognize that it was their turn in rotation for clean up duty.
Things had been relatively easy, peaceful almost, if only Dunestripe hadn't been pulled aside towards Sea Star Grove by Minnowfern who had joined in their cleanup. Dread eases into her and poor Sheerwater would be able to feel impatience radiating off of the pale blue molly. Pearlwave isn't normally this prickly, but she knew exactly what would happen as soon as Dunestripe was taken away for just "a talk".
In an attempt to make light of the situation, as well as to ease her tension, Pearlwave would lean over to whisper into her mates ears. "How much longer should we wait for Dunestripe's rejection before we just leave the two of them behind?" Her whiskers twitch in amusement, and she also takes this opportunity of closeness to lick the fluffy tom's ears.
Foxstep mentions Mantaclaw, Turtleheart, and Aloebreeze Outside of Camp @ little blu ♥ Foxstep's ears swivel as he hears the approaching steps of Turtleheart, his head turning to confirm his suspicions as he watches the brown and white tabby waddle her way over to him and Mantaclaw. He casts a side glance to his fellow guard before he stands and moves a few fox lengths forward to give the two a moment for themselves. The broad tom was also using it as an excuse to hopefully meet up with Aloebreeze as he knew she should be arriving back from hunting with Violetshine.
Heat floods his pelt as he licks his fluffy chest, trying to act like his calm and collected self, even if just the idea of seeing the pretty molly made his heart go aflutter. Nervously shifting his weight between his paws, Foxsteps sharp blue gaze keeps a careful watch for any movement in the tall grass that surrounds the outside of camp. Sharkrunner's tail twitches as he basks in the sun and relaxes further into the warm soil, some patches of dirt upturned from all his rolling around in order to get comfy. His lids fall, heavy with the kind of sleep that only a nap brings. He was about to completely doze off when the sharp cry of some monkeys in the far distance causes his head to raise with an impressively quick speed. His eyes take in his surroundings, landing on the tri-colored pelt of his mate before panic can begin to bubble up in his chest.
Stretching out and making his body long for a moment, Sharkrunner rises to his paws and approaches Koisong, brushing his fur against hers. "How do the herbs look? It's a miracle they didn't wash away like the rest of the beach."

Aloebreeze with Violetshine Clearwater Beach @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 The rustle of wings reached her perked ears, causing her head to sway to the left. Her nose twitched; the distinct smell of fish mixed with bird. Some sort of seabird then. Aloebreeze hoped that it wasn't an albatross or frigatebird - both were much too big for her to take down on her own. A bit of trepidation stayed her paws for a moment longer before the rumble of her stomach reminded her how little prey the clan had.
Cream-colored paws sank into the sand as she carefully picked her way across the beach. Her whiskers quivered as she strained her ears, worried about getting too close. The bird made not another sound, but the smell remained. Lowering into a crouch, Aloebreeze let out a silent breath, sending up a prayer to StarClan that she managed to catch the feathered creature. A moment more and then the tabby launched herself through the air, the claws of her left paw catching on soft feathers. Mouse-dung!
Scrambling to save the catch, she lunged, and her teeth snapped at the air as the bird squawked in alarm. Air ruffled the fur of her face and her whiskers, followed by the distinct sound of beating wings. The bird was going to escape! Aloebreeze dug in her claws, relieved when she found flesh. Swinging her other paw up, she lashed out. The cream molly wrestled with the bird - a sandpiper until finally, she managed to land a killing blow.
"Too... Too close," Aloebreeze panted, her sightless eyes narrowed in the general direction of the wily prey. She could barely hear the sound of approaching paw-steps over her heavy breaths. The familiar scent of Violetshine washed over her, soothing her ruffled nerves. "Vi? I hope you had a better hunt," she mewed softly, turning towards one of her closest friends.
Sheerwater with Pearlwave mentions Minnowfern & Dunestripe Sea Star Grove @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 Sheerwater tugged at the twig tangled in his mane, annoyance shimmering in his green eyes. He had bits of grass, shells, and leaves dusted throughout his thick coat. Clean up, while necessary, was something the tom would have loved to avoid. Still, the group had gotten a good portion of the beach clear of debris today. Now, Pearlwave was resting at his side as they took a much-needed rest. It would have been almost peaceful... if he hadn't been able to feel his mate's impatience.
Not that the blue tom couldn't relate. The fisher wanted to watch Dunestripe reject Minnowfern like he wanted a bee sting to the eye. His tufted ear twitched at his mate's whisper, feeling her breath against his cheek. A huff escaped his maw as he turned to peer at Pearlwave, his gaze softening slightly. "We could leave now? Why stay and watch this play out? We already know the outcome," he couldn't sound more bored if he tried.
Before he could even stand, Dunestripe was calling out for the retreating molly. Sheerwater watched as Minnowfern raced back towards camp with a shake of his head. "Hopeless," he grumbled, getting to his paws. When the disheartened brown and white tabby padded towards them, the tom ran his fluffy tail down his mate's spine, silently telling her to behave. While the tom might deserve some boxed ears, he clearly didn't get joy out of causing the felines pain.
Dunestripe with Minnowfern, Pearlwave, & Sheerwater Sea Star Grove @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 Dunestripe was drowning in a deep sense of dread. Minnowfern's pale green eyes peered up at him, hopeful and warm. Unease was a stone in his stomach. Not that the tom didn't know where this was going. Not even the devastation that the clan had recently faced could stop these dreadful confessions. The brown and white tabby tom was a humorous, light-hearted feline who charmed every single cat he met - elders included. It was just the way he spoke, he enjoyed making others laugh and smile. Nine times out of ten there was nothing more behind it. Especially since he's been hung up on his ex.
"Dunestripe I... well, it's difficult to say..." Minnowfern started, licking at her chest fur in faint embarrassment. Then don't? The tom bit back the words, but just barely. "I... I feel strongly - that is, I believe that I like-" the silver molly tried again but Dunestripe took a step back, giving her pause. His tabby tail disturbed the shallow water behind him, head bowing in a mixture of shame and discomfort.
A shaky breath rattled in his chest slowly. "Minnowfern, I'm sorry if I've led you on in anyway. I-"
"Oh! N-No, it's fine. I'm sorry to have bothered you. I'm just going to return to camp now. Bye," the collector squeaked, turning and sprinting across the dunes towards the camp. Dunestripe stumbled after her, his mouth opening and closing like a beached fish.
"Minnowfern!" he called but the molly only disappeared over one sandy hill. The tom wondered if he was going to be sick. His ears and whiskers drooped as he padded back towards Pearlwave and Sheerwater. He smiled wanly but it didn't reach his eyes. "Well. The sun's setting, I think we can call it a day?" Dunestripe offered, forcing a cheer into his voice that he did not feel. Just grin and bear it. That was all the tomcat could do. Grin and flirt and pretend that every rejection he delivered did not chip away at his soul.
Mantaclaw with Turtleheart mentions Foxstep Outside of Camp @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 The heavily scarred tom sits silently beside the entrance, his paws itching to move. It hurt him to be "idle" while the clan was trying to recover. He reminded himself that protecting the camp was important - being a guard was no small task. Mantaclaw lifted his head when Foxstep shuffled forward, confusion in his single blue eye. Then the sweet scent of milk tickled his nose and he spotted Turtleheart waddling through the entrance.
"Are you... alright?" the patched tom asked, trying to mask his concern behind one of the small smiles he reserved only for her. After the hurricane, his protective instincts were higher than they ever had been. At the same time, he was aware that placing his fears on Turtleheart wouldn't be helpful. He turned to face her so that the scarred side of his face wasn't visible to her, actions born of a deep insecurity.
Koisong with Sharkrunner Palm Circle @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 Anise. Clove. Gavilana. There was even some aloe vera on the very edge of the circle. Somehow, by the grace of StarClan, the herbs had survived the horrid winds that came with the hurricane. She lifted a paw to carefully trace the yellow and white flowers before her. She'd felt a burst of relief the minute she'd spotted them. Little blossoms of hope in such a dark time. The screech of the monkey had Koisong lifting her head. A sudden spike of adrenaline caused her heart to race.
The Wilds had always been her favorite place to explore, no matter the dangers. The golden calico peered at her mate with a smile as he approached. "They're alive, that's really all we can ask for. I expected them to be wilted but we should be able to harvest the Anise fruits next moon!" Koisong enthused, practically bouncing on her paws now. She flicked his flank with her tail affectionately.

Violetshine found her friend, and hunting partner, just at the latter half of that wrestling match. She silently cheered on Aloebreeze as she watched, trying to stay hidden as to not alarm the bird any further. With the sandpiper officially dead, and the cream tabby she-cat catching her breath, Violetshine would finally approach and drop her seagull right beside the other bird.
As she approaches, her tail tip brushes along Aloebreeze's flank, to make her aware of exactly how far away Violetshine was before settling right before the blind molly. "I was lucky enough to catch something." She responds with a hint of pride. "Seems the only good thing that came out of the hurricane was all of the crabs it washed up. Makes finding birds much easier." Her eyes do a quick scan of the beach, still littered with all kinds of debris, but still much clearer than the weeks before when they had first ventured back to shore after the devastating storm nearly swept away their home.
"Let's head back. The sun's starting to set." Violetshine points out, going back towards their prey and bringing Aloebreeze's sandpiper to her, just so she doesn't have to exert the energy to retrieve it herself. It's hard not to immediately break out into a purr the moment Turtleheart's eyes land on her mate, not even phased by his scarred appearance anymore. She can't help but chuckle as she quickly notices Mantaclaw's attempt at concealing his worry, though she appreciates it nonetheless. The hurricane had affected her too, and even though Turtleheart prides herself on her self-reliant nature, she's found herself attached to her mates side more than usual lately. It's not unlike the same way she had become attentive, clingy almost, after his attack when they were younger.
"I'm perfectly fine. I just wanted to see you." Her response is always the same whenever he asks. Though it's harder to move recently, Turtleheart makes sure to settle close enough to him so she can greet the scarred side of his face first with a lick on his cheek, knowing he always hides it from her out of habit. Then she pushes her head under his chin and rests against his chest, letting out an exhausted sigh. "The kits were kicking me like mad just a few moments ago, probably telling me that they wanted to be near you, too."
Pearlwave with Sheerwater and Dunestripe Sea Star Grove @ little blu ♥Pearlwave had to keep herself from snorting as she gave Sheerwater a once over, nearly forgetting how well things stuck in his fur. She would lean in to pick out a couple of small dove shells that had woven into his more thicker pelt, taking them in her teeth and gently placing them on the ground. Grooming was one of her favorite past times. Sometimes she liked to joke that the reason she fell in love with Sheerwater was because his fur always needed to be groomed from the humid heat, and because she always found the strangest things. It was a common topic of teasing on her end.
Her gaze lands on him when Sheerwater turns to look at her, ears perking at his suggestion. "Please, Sheerwater, let's do that. I'm so tired." Pearlwave shamelessly and loudly complains, her tone border-lining a whine. She goes to stand with him, but barely moves a pawstep as Minnowfern barrels past them and Dunestripe's voice carries after. Then her attention is on the aforementioned tom as he approaches the pair.
The molly opens her mouth to make some sort of comment, but the feeling of her mate's tail trailing down her spine gets her maw to snap shut. She casts a glance to Sheerwater, then sighs and reluctantly moves away from his side so she can initiate the trek back to the camp. "Alright then. Let's go, boys." With a glance back over her shoulder, Pearlwave lingers on Dunestripe as she at least offers him a reassuring smile. Sharkrunner loved Koisong's enthusiasm, but then again he loved everything about the calico. Her excitement was infectious, and even though he has no idea what Anise fruit does, he's still purring as she relays the information. The ginger and white tom nearly goes weak in the knees from the affectionate flick of her tail, and he responds by playfully trying to nip the tops of her ears, not having to reach very far in order to do so. "That's great, love, sounds like that's really good for the clan!" He says just as enthusiastically.
A small, amused smirk settles on his maw and he now lays in front of her with his belly up like a large kitten, though he's careful not to crush any herbs. Sharkrunner lifts a forepaw and tries to press it against her cheek. "My mate is so smart, and so pretty. Tell me more about the herbs. What does that one do?" With that same paw he points it in some direction, not really aiming for a specific plant.

Aloebreeze with Violetshine Clearwater Beach @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 The soft touch of Violetshine's tail helped Aloebreeze relax, thankful her friend was so accommodating. A lot of her other clan mates found it a bit awkward or difficult to interact and patrol with her. The cream tabby was all the more grateful for the close friendship that lingered between the four of them. She genuinely wouldn't have made it this far without Turtleheart, Pearlwave, and Violetshine at her side.
"Perfect," the blind feline enthused. The prey pile was still precariously low, especially since the waters were still choppy. Fishers were having a rough time fighting the waves. "Yeah, the crabs are nice... Until I step near one and lose the tip of my tail!" Aloebreeze joked with a good-natured chuckle. Violetshine was right though, the birds were plentiful on the beach. Even now, she could hear the cry of a seagull somewhere off to the right. The stench of dried seaweed lingered in the air, which added a layer of difficulty to hunting for a warrior that relied heavily on their nose.
Aloebreeze dipped her head in agreement, eager to head home and tell Foxstep about her fight against the seabird. A light thud and the tang of blood announced the arrival of the sandpiper at her paws. "Thanks," she purred, offering her tabby companion a smile. At least she hoped, it was hard to tell if Aloebreeze was facing Violetshine at all. "I thought you'd want to stay out longer... to avoid Turtleheart and her matchmaking?" the molly teased before grasping the wing of the bird between her teeth and following after the faint patter of paw-steps through the sand.
Not that Turtleheart was the only one eager for Violetshine to settle down. Pearlwave was almost as bad and definitely more enthusiastic. And Aloebreeze couldn't claim innocence in the matter either. She just... wanted her friend to be happy. No one deserved love more than Violetshine. The silver tabby worked so hard for the clan, gave so much. The upcoming Flower Gathering might give Violet the chance to meet the love of her life, Aloebreeze mused as the headed towards camp.
Sheerwater with Pearlwave, Oceanpaw, & Tealpaw mentions Turtleheart, Mantaclaw, & Foxstep Sea Star Grove @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 Pearlwave had managed not to be cheeky and Dunestripe was actually quiet for once, miracles did happen! The blue and white tom snorted quietly, quickly catching up to his mate's side. Her little legs were no match for his own stride, which Sheerwater did not find adorable. Not at all. The fisher was definitely relieved to be heading back home, in need of a deep groom and a long nap. His paws ached with every step, in part due to the grains of sand stuck in the cracks that had formed on his paw-pads.
The sight of Turtleheart and Mantaclaw cuddled together had the young tom rolling his eyes. His friends were hopeless. "Get a den," he joked, nudging the black and white guard with a shoulder. At least Foxstep was focused on his job. Not that he could deny getting distracted when Pearlwave fished with him.
Sheerwater weaved through the jagged driftwood and wild reeds that hid the entrance to CoastalClan's camp. A wide yawn gaped his jaws before he gave himself a firm shake. The soft, red-tinted light fell across his cool toned pelt as he finally stepped into the clearing. Tired yellow-green eyes began taking stock of the activity in camp and the tom suddenly froze. "Pearl, why don't we go back out? We could walk to Crescent Cove? Or somewhere else of equal distance? But we have to go now-"
"Sheer! You're back!" the excited squeal came from a delighted Oceanpaw. His small paws kicked up sand - directly into Tealpaw's face - as he ran to greet the patrol. The groan that escaped the fisher was more than a bit dramatic. Plaintive green eyes bored into his mate's hazel gaze. "It's too late.." he said mournfully.
"You're kinda a mess, is that a piece of seaweed behind your ear?" Tealpaw laughed, after batting his litter-mate's ears for the sand facial. Oceanpaw stuck his tongue out in response before bouncing around Sheerwater and Pearlwave. "Pearlwave! Did you have to fight off a wave of crabs? Brightpaw says they're all over the beach right now!" Oceanpaw questioned, green eyes widening in awe.
The two apprentices had been a bit... clingy since the loss of their parents only moons ago. As though they were afraid their older brother might be swept away by the tide at any moment. Sheerwater waved a paw at them, as though they were insects to swat away. To his mate he whispered conspiratorially, "We could make a run for it?"
Dunestripe with x mentions lotsa peeps Sea Star Grove @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 The smile Pearlwave sent his way was noticed and returned but there wasn't anything genuine about the curve of his lips. He padded behind the couple by a few tail-lengths, wondering if he should avoid camp to give Minnowfern some space. He hadn't meant to hurt the silver molly - he'd enjoyed joking around and spending time with the collector. His heart though... it still belonged to Koisong. His first love and childhood sweetheart. The one molly who had seen behind his charms to the tom underneath. He grits his teeth against the sudden pain her memory brought to his chest.
He'd truly believed that the golden calico had been his one. He vividly remembered the day they had confessed to each other. All five doves had fallen into the sand when they'd broken their sand dollar. Koisong had joked that they'd have five litters of kits. Now she had moved on. With Sharkrunner. Uncharacteristic agitation was hot beneath his pelt. A firm head shake and Dunestripe finally realized they'd made it back to camp.
Mantaclaw was wrapped around his pregnant mate. The two were so in love, it was kind of sickening. The brown and white tabby moved quickly past the two of them, not bothering to bid farewell to his patrol. Instead, he padded off towards the fresh-kill pile. Minnowfern was nowhere to be found, though her scent lingered around one of the small dens that the clan used during dismal weather. Dunestripe flinched, slipping into the tunnel that led to the small, cool cave that housed their caught prey.
Mantaclaw with Turtleheart mentions Foxstep Outside of Camp @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 Mantaclaw's heart stumbled in his chest, his mate's words touching some of the more jagged pieces of his heart. Every day he woke up expecting the past moons to have only been a dream. Somehow Turtleheart genuinely loved him. Her rough tongue gently rasped at his scarred cheek before she settled against him. The patched tom never enjoyed his strength more than when his mate leaned against him for support. He might not have been strong enough to save them, but he would never fail Turtleheart - he hoped.
The tom lifted his head warily at the sound of paw-steps. He relaxed at the return of the clean-up patrol. Their work today meant Clearwater Beach was much closer to being returned to its former glory. Sheerwater's snarky comment had Mantaclaw shaking his head, ignoring the burn of his ears. He wouldn't apologize for spending time with Turtleheart.
His long, patched tail curled around her heavily rounded stomach, a raspy purr rumbling in his throat. "I've missed you too..." he admitted, his voice low for her ears only. A small nudge against his tail had him biting back a dopey smile. "You guys too." Mantaclaw's chest ached with a longing that was hard to ignore. Part of him couldn't wait for their children to be born. The other part was terrified that they would be scared of him or that he'd be a horrible father.
"Turtleheart do you..." Think I'll frighten them?
"I mean, what do you think they'll be like?" the black and white warrior asked instead, tilting his head so that his chin rested on top of hers. Mantaclaw tried to picture what they'd look like. Little brown tabbies or dark patched bundles of fur. What color would their eyes be? Would they have his flop ear or her dark pink nose? "I hope they're just like you," he mewed, his bright blue eye staring off at the horizon.
Koisong with Sharkrunner Palm Circle @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 Koisong let out a giggle as Sharkrunner nipped at her ears, green eyes glowing with a contentment that was still so new to her. The ginger and white tom at her side had quickly become her whole world. The molly had believed that she'd known what love was. Dunestripe had been her best friend growing up and they'd fallen into an easy relationship once they earned their full names. The affection the calico felt for her former partner was like a drop in the ocean compared to what she felt for her sweet guard.
"It really is! I can't wait to tell Smallarch!" she agreed. Sharkrunner might not have an interest in herbs like she did, but he never belittled her excitement.
Carefully, the she-cat placed a paw on her mate's chest, leaning down to nuzzle her nose against his. Those compliments caused butterflies to flutter around her stomach. "You charmer! My mate is a sweet-talker... but a cute one," Koisong purred, shaking her head in fondness. Lifting her gaze in the direction he pointed, the feline couldn't hide a mrrow of laughter. "That's the herb biggus rockus, it's used to knock sense into fish-brains," she teased, lightly batting at his head with her free paw.

Violetshine with Dunestripe mentions Aloebreeze and Foxstep Headed to Camp - Prey Cave @ little blu ♥Violetshine always found herself to be the most calm when she was in Aloebreeze's presence. Not that she didn't enjoy being in the presence of the rest of her friend group, but being with the cream tabby when it was just the two of them allowed for a certain kind of tranquility that wasn't often felt with the others. Plus, Aloebreeze didn't bring up potential mate matches quite as much as Turtlheart.
A chuckle rumbles in her throat as she listens to her friend ramble on about crabs, remembering when they first got to the beach and she had to swipe a little blue crustacean away from plucking out some of the blind feline's tail fur. A heroic act of bravery that Violetshine was more than happy to perform. After all, she was supposed to her knight in shining armor when Foxstep was away. It was an unofficial title that the silver molly gladly boasted about. Though, only to herself.
Shaking her head, Violetshine lets out a long sigh at the mention of the she-cat they both held near and dear to their hearts. "Oh, Starclan, don't remind me," still, she can't help but smile. "I just don't know how she can't see that if there was someone for me, then I probably would've found them already," her tail-tip settles on Aloebreeze's shoulder to act as a guide back to camp while the two navigated their way through the sandy beach. Violetshine almost regrets the words as soon as they leave her mouth. If it had been anyone other than her more soft-spoken companion, then the molly might have had to prepare for an earful about how she never takes the time to look for romance, let alone take time for herself.
A million other more thoughts flood her mind as they walk in silence, only because their mouths were full with the prey they had worked hard to catch. Sure, Violetshine might be lonely from time-to-time when her friends would pair off with their mates, leaving the spotted tabby by herself. Maybe there were times that she even wished to have a cat like that in her life, but she couldn't afford to think like that. There was still so much she could do to prove herself and her loyalty to the clan, and that was through hard work alone, not some ridiculous courtship.
"Almost there," her words are muffled through the feathers. Getting back to camp was easy, they were already close by anyways. The real tell was that Violetshine could spot the red of Foxstep's fur not too far away. It was a hue she'd gotten used to always seeing first whenever she was out on patrol with his gentle mate, and her best friend.
"Aloebreeze!" Violetshine rolls her eyes as Foxstep completely ignores her and goes right to his mates side. The silver and black tabby would give a quick goodbye to two before she rushes ahead, slipping past Turtleheart and Mantaclaw while they were tucked into each other in a conversation, and makes a beeline towards the tunnel of the cave that housed their prey. What she didn't expect was anyone else already be in there and nearly bumps into Dunestripe. "Oh, excuse me," She tries to slip around him, avoiding catching his eye as she adds the seagull to the pile.
Pearlwave with Sheerwater, Oceanpaw, & Tealpaw mentions others Camp @ little blu ♥It was a relatively quiet walk back to camp, no one really had anything to say. They were all tired, and at least Pearlwave could tell that no one wanted to pierce the awkward tension. It was a relief when they finally arrived back to camp, Foxstep being the first cat they'd see - surely waiting for Aloebreeze to return from hunting. Then, she can't help but purr softly at the sight of Turtleheart and Mantaclaw curled up, the sight could melt her heart. If only Sheerwater didn't have to ruin the moment. The small blue molly has half a mind to bite the end of his tail just for that unnecessary comment, but she just throws and apologetic smile in their direction instead.
Finally back at camp, Pearlwave lets out a heavy sigh and almost heads straight for her nest, determined to drag Sheerwater with her when he suddenly freezes and speaks in a panicked tone. Concern immediately sets in and she's about to open her mouth to ask what was wrong, but her answer comes soon enough as she spots Oceanpaw and Tealpaw tumbling towards them.
A bright, sort of smug smile settles on Pearlwave's features and she just nudges Sheerwater while the apprentices talk over one another. Seems that she was the only one of the two to catch on to where the clinginess of his brother surely had to stem from. The whole clan had lost friends and loved ones to the hurricane, it just meant they needed to hold those that were still here that much tighter. "Play nice," she would whisper in this ear before she turns to the apprentices.
"A wave of crabs? Please. I don't know where Brightpaw is getting this information, she's obviously trying to mess with you guys," a pause, "but we did have to fight a whole flock of birds!" Pearlwave is instantly animated as she goes on to tell an absolutely unrealistic tale of how they had to fight off huge seagulls for a piece of driftwood, and then she says how Sheerwater had to wrestle a seaweed monster and that's how he got some behind his ear. The molly knows that neither of the toms are kits anymore, and it's unlikely that they'll believe her tall tale, but it was worth it to try and get a laugh out of them.
Foxstep with Violetshine & Aloebreeze mentions Sheerwater, Dunestripe, Pearlwave & his kits Outside of Camp @ little blu ♥Ah, yes, Foxstep was totally focused on the job and definitely wasn't keeping a watchful eye out for his mate. Not at all. Though, he still manages to give a curt nod of greeting to the cleanup patrol as they passed by, giving a lingering look over his shoulder as he heard Sheerwater teasing his fellow guard and Turtleheart behind him. His head turns, paying neither party anymore mind as he keeps his gaze forward.
The fluffy red and white tom would take a moment to run his rough tongue over his chest, trying to smooth down his fur, as well as attempt to cool himself off. Having long fur was the bane of his existence sometimes, and he's just grateful that he didn't pass that gene down to Coralfoam or Dusktide. It was Littlesplash that shared his furry pelt, which looked handsome with his white fur, just like his mothers. His bright eyes steel over as he suddenly finds himself reminiscing when he hadn't meant to. Again, his tongue passes over his chest.
More pawsteps in the distance has Foxstep lifting his head, his demeanor brightening in almost an instant when he spots Violetshine, and then the peek of cream fur from behind her. "Aloebreeze!" The burly tom is on his paws in an instant and trots over to the she-cats, passing Violetshine like she wasn't even there so that he could move to press into his mate's side. He would miss the way that Violetshine would roll her eyes and move ahead to duck into camp.
Turtleheart with Mantaclaw mentions Sheerwater & Violetshine Outside of Camp @ little blu ♥Before Mantaclaw could even get a word in, Turtleheart opens her eyes once the salty scent of the beach, as well as the familiar scent of cats flooded her nostrils. She smiles, at first, but it's quickly replaced with half-hearted sneer at Sheerwater's snark comment. "Eat dirt!" She calls after him, not having lost that witty spark despite being stuck in camp for the last moon and a half. Catching Pearlwave's apologetic smile gets the tabby to chuckle, turning into her mate more and licking over his shoulder.
She finds herself calming down the instant she feels Manatclaw's tail wrapping around her swollen belly, drawing her gaze up to meet his. Her eyes narrow and her nose scrunches as a more tame kick is dealt, and she swears she almost catches that dopey smile he tries to hide. Turtleheart lets out a slow exhale, breathing through the taut feeling of several smaller bumps. "Oh, wow, yup. They really wanted to see you," she manages to say with a small chuckle. Smallarch said that she was only carrying three kits, but she swore it felt like more sometimes.
Her attention is once again on her mate as he trails off, and she can practically hear the end of that thought. Turtleheart wasn't an idiot, she knew that Mantaclaw could let his insecurities get the better of him, and she saw how some old wounds began to open after she'd dropped the news of kits on him. She's waiting for him to finish that sentence, getting ready to reassure him when suddenly he's switched it up on her.
Turtleheart's expression immediately softens and she gives the tom an affectionate nuzzle with her cheeks. "If they're just like me then we're in for a world full of trouble," the tabby says with an amused purr. "Nothing that we won't be able to handle," she's so caught up in talking about their future kits that she nearly misses Violetshine as she sneaks past them. Oh shoot! Turtleheart had been meaning to talk to the hunter, she wanted to give her a rundown of potential toms to talk to during the Flower Gathering. Oh, well. She'd rather talk about her kits still. "I hope they're brave, just like their father." Sharkrunner can hardly remember what life was like before Koisong, it was barely one that was worth living. Most of the days were spent with trying to get Foxstep or Mantaclaw to smile, especially after the latter's accident. The attempts were usually met with a cuff to the ear from the older red tom, telling him to take his job seriously. Which he did! He just liked to have some fun doing it. Sharkrunner couldn't lie and say that he never felt like a nuisance to those around him. Koisong was the first and only cat to not only laugh with him, but also encouraged his antics. He considered himself lucky that they found each other when the needed someone the most, and he didn't know what he did to deserve the miracle that was Koisong.
A more than dramatic grunt leaves the lazy guard when her paw is on top of his chest, and her pretends to squirm around, like he's trying to get away. His movements instantly still as Koisong leans down and rubs their noses together, which has Sharkrunner purring and melting right into the ground. "Yeah? How cute? Cuter than a newborn kit?" He was fishing, hoping to get some more affectionate words from his calico. Unfortunately, he's met with her teasing comeback and a playful cuff to the side of his head, which makes him let out a small mrrow of surprise.
With an easy bout of strength, Sharkrunner sits up and pushes down on Koisong's chest, easily pinning her on her back if he managed to catch her off-guard. He hovers over his mate and leans down to nuzzle his face right into her soft neck fur. "Y'know, I'm starting to think that you just made that up," the tom snickers and peers down at the pretty molly below him, his whole body vibrating as he purrs.

Aloebreeze with Foxstep mentions Violetshine Outside Camp @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 Aloebreeze chuckled softly at Violetshine's heart-felt complaints. Though she disagreed, the blind molly wouldn't refute her friend's thoughts or feelings. Instead, it just made her a bit sad. She hoped that Violetshine hadn't given up on romance already. A thoughtful sigh escaped the feline as she padded beside her black spotted friend. Aloebreeze hadn't ever believed she'd find anyone either. Foxstep had been... a surprise, a pleasant one.
It was easy to ignore the whispers and judgement of the clan. Taking a second mate was always looked down upon - the unity ceremony was supposed to mean forever. And then, of course, there was their age gap. The pair was fuel for the gossip mill but that didn't truly matter to Aloebreeze. Her grouchy red and white guard brought joy and love like she'd never felt before. She didn't regret falling in love with him for a second. She wanted Violetshine to have that soul-deep connection too.
The molly let herself be guided by her friend's tail, her feet often landing in the sandy divots left from the other hunter's paws. The familiar scents of her clan-mates began to mingle in the air, bringing a smile to her lips around the feathers of the sandpiper. Home. Foxstep's particular scent reached her only seconds before he called out. Aloebreeze took some quick, eager steps before stumbling over a small stone and almost slamming into her mate. "Oops," she mumbled, ears heating in embarrassment.
"Foxstep! How has your watch been?" the huntress asked, pressing her cheek against his coat, the firm muscle leading her to believe it was his shoulder.
Sheerwater with Pearlwave, Oceanpaw, & Tealpaw mentions deceased parents ;-; Inside Camp @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 His mate had betrayed him. Sheerwater narrowed his gaze at her as Pearlwave told her brothers grand stories of their beach clean-up. He sat close beside her, reluctantly, tail curled around his paws. It wasn't that he didn't love the little furballs because he did, more than words could ever express. But the apprentices reminded him so much of his parents, of the guilt he felt for not being able to save either one of them that horrible afternoon. His mother had gotten trapped beneath some driftwood and while he got Tealpaw and Oceanpaw to safety, his father had tried to help her. Sheerwater had returned just in time to try and help, his teeth had briefly settled in his mother's scruff... and then the wave came. All three cats were thrown about by the fierce water and only Sheer had survived.
How could he look his brothers in the eye, when he'd failed them? The two would never get to grow up with their mother nitpicking at every little thing and their father's lame jokes. The twins hadn't even been apprentices when their parents had passed, only a few sunrises away from their ceremony. Now, two moons had passed, and the clan was still reeling and recovering from the damage. His green gaze softened as he took in Oceanpaw's excitement and enthusiasm. Tealpaw had always been a bit more serious, but even he grinned and laughed at Pearlwave's stories. Sheerwater's heart ached.
"Wow, really?! Pearlwave you're so cool! I bet those birds didn't stand a chance! And a seaweed monster! I've never seen one myself, but Sandtail told me that she and Orchidstar took one down when they were apprentices!" Oceanpaw chirped, lifting up on his hind paws to swipe at the air, as though battling some unseen monster. "You're so brave, Sheer! I want to be just like you when I grow up... or Pearlwave," the apprentice was sending a beaming smile at both.
Tealpaw huffed a laugh at his brother's naivety but even he couldn't deny enjoying the molly's stories. "Wow, you guys have had an eventful day! Maybe we'll see some giant birds tomorrow? I think Berrytangle said something about us being on clean-up patrol in the morning," he said, blue eyes shining. Oceanpaw gasped excitedly, nodding his head so hard it could have fallen off. "Yeah, maybe you will," Sheerwater said, his tone shockingly soft.
Dunestripe with Violetshine mentions x Prey Cave @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 The tomcat stared blankly at the meager pile. He'd come down to grab something to eat but now hesitated. There were so few items, probably barely enough to feed every remaining cat. Dunestripe was young and strong, he could hold off on a meal. Just as he'd turned to pad back out, chest heavy with guilt over Minnowfern, a silvery feline slid into the cave. Ah, Violetshine. He forced his brightest grin, flicking his tail in greeting. "You're excused, darlin'," he flirted on instinct and the winced, his smile dimming. The last thing he wanted was anymore horrible confessions. Then again, he and Violetshine had never really gotten along or seen eye to eye. He was probably safe.
"Catch that big bird all by yourself, Vi?" Dunestripe asked, playfully padding behind her, eager to spark her temper. He'd even used his childhood nickname for her because the tom knew she hated it. Why he got a kick out of riling her up, not even the fisher knew. It sure was fun though. "Impressive," though his tone was teasing, his amber eyes glinted with genuine relief. The seagull would feed at least two cats, or three apprentices... or even Rushflower and her entire litter. The clan desperately needed prey and with Orchidstar wary of sending fishers out into the stormy water, land-prey was almost all they had. Never had he respected the hunters more.
Mantaclaw with Turtleheart mentions Sheerwater Outside of Camp @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 The black and white tom shook his head fondly at Turtleheart's response to Sheerwater. He pressed his head against hers, breathing in her sweet scent. To be frank, the tom was used to Sheerwater's snarky comments and sly grins. He was one of mate's best friends and the banter was normal. The fluffy blue tom and Turtleheart bickered the worst out of the group, but there was a deep love there. Mantaclaw often longed for that sort of connection again but then his broken heart would remind him why friends were best kept at a distance.
His mate's discomfort brought him out of his musings. Worry put a lump in his throat as he pressed against her side, desperate to support her. "I'm sorry," he said, resisting the urge to run and get Smallarch. The kits had been super active this past moon, likely because they were closer than ever to being due. Any day now, really. That didn't mean Mantaclaw felt any better about the pain Turtleheart was experiencing. Leaning down and pressing his cheek against her flank, he whispered, "Behave." Not that his children would likely listen to him. Stubborn, like their momma.
"Trouble?" the guard asked, as though he was shocked by his mate's statement. Laughter glowed in his eye, a smile tugging at his muzzle. Mantaclaw adored Turtleheart's attitude and energy. The brown and white tabby was so full of life, a direct contrast to the gray fog he'd been living in. They'd be lucky to get such boisterous kits. He felt his ears heat at Turtleheart's indirect compliment, shifting his paws restlessly. Brave?
No, Mantaclaw wasn't brave. He was scared all the time - messing up, losing his mate, failing his kits... Fear was his constant companion, dogging his paw-steps. Not to mention, if he'd been brave, they might still be alive. He might still be alive. A flash of golden fur, two searing green eyes... The tom shook his head firmly, trying to escape the painful memories. I hope my kits are nothing like me. He wanted better for them. Still, he smiled at his mate, nuzzling her cheek gently.
"As long as they're not snarky like Sheerwater..."
Koisong with Sharkrunner Palm Circle @ 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 The calico narrows her eyes at the tom's faked gasp and pretend squirming. "I'm not that heavy, you rock-head!" she snapped, though her tone was playful. Sharkrunner really could be so dramatic, but Koisong loved that about him. The two always made time for adventures and play, the importance of having fun in a relationship a cornerstone of theirs. She purred loudly as she reached down to lick his cheek. "Hm, maybe not a newborn kit. They're too adorable. But you're definitely cuter than a fish?" the tricolored she-cat laughed; her deep green eyes warm.
Her breath rushed out on an 'oof' as the tom flipped them around, pinning her to the soft grass beneath. His face rubbing against her neck brought out the giggles as Koisong squirmed beneath him, ticklish. "What? No! Biggus Rockus is a completely real treatment. Should I show you?" the molly teased. With another heave, Koisong rolled on top of Sharkrunner, paws steady on his shoulders. "Ha! Pinned ya, again!" She nipped at his chin lightly, a mischievous grin tilting her muzzle.

Violetshine has a similar reaction after being called such a thing by the tomcat, throwing a scowl his way. She had thought that maybe they could've made it back to camp before the cleanup patrol, but they must've shown up at the same time. It's a struggle not to keep her fur from bristling just at the sight of Dunestripe's dumb little smile, and she quickly turns from him, failing to see the way that his usual flirtatious expression falls. Still, her silvery pelt stands on end when she hears that awful nickname slip from his maw.
"Don't call me that. In fact, try to not to speak to me at all," the molly huffs out in frustration after setting the feathered bird down with the rest of the prey. Her gaze lingers on just how little they really had, wondering if Orchidstar was going to send them out again in the evening. With how sluggish she was starting to feel, part of her hopes not. Finally, turning to face the fisher, Violetshine is about to give him a piece of her mind when she's taken aback by the look of relief in his eyes. He's teasing her, she knows this, but it's probably the most genuine compliment she's ever received from Dunestripe. She pauses before opening her mouth. "Thank you."
"How, um, how did cleanup go?" A deep heat begins to form at her cheeks, just below her fur as Mantaclaw brings his cheek right to her flank. The act alone is enough to make her blush, but then he's reprimanding their unborn kits and it just about melts her heart. The shecat's body is nearly buzzing as she purrs, leaning down to give an affectionate lick to his cheek. There was nothing in this world that she loved more than her mate, but that could be proven to change once their kits were born. Oh, who was she kidding. Turtleheart would love both Mantaclaw, and their kittens all the same.
"Yes, trouble," Her whiskers tremble as she snickers, "I'm grown enough to admit that I was somewhat of a mischief-maker back in our apprentice days." Turtleheart continues to purr, though it resides to just a dull roaring in her throat. The mention of Sheerwater gets her tail-tip to flick and she groans as her cheek is being nuzzled.
"That bumbling tom isn't allowed near out kits until they're at least a moon old. Wouldn't want his snarky butt rubbing off on them." A lie, which is evident in the chuckle that follows after her words. Turtleheart casts a gaze to her swollen stomach before her bi-colored eyes flicker back up to meet the patchy tom's bright blue. "Sometimes I really can't believe it. Our kits." Out of all of her friends, the molly never imagined that she would be the first one to become a mom.
Pearlwave with Sheerwater, Oceanpaw & Tealpaw camp @ little blu ♥ Pearlwave smiles brightly as she listens to the apprentices, though peeks over to her mate out of the corner of her eyes. She could practically sense what he was thinking. It was so obvious in his eyes that he was reminiscing about their parents. She tries to ignore the tug to her heartstrings, being reminded of that day was always hard. Seeing Sheerwater get swept up in the roaring waters is an image she'll never forget. It was a miracle that he had even survived in the first place, and she thanks Starclan every night for not taking her Sheerwater away.
Wordlessly, the pale blue molly presses against his side while listening to the apprentices rant on. She laughs at Oceanpaw protecting them from an invisible creature, his enthusiasm something she always admired. Reminds her of his mother the most, while Tealpaw and Sheerwater looked exactly like their father. Leaning down, Pearlwave briefly presses her nose to the tops of the apprentices head, purr rumbling deep in her chest. "You two are already plenty brave."
She casts a look over to her mate as he speaks up, the soft tone of his voice something she rarely hears him use for others. Her gaze lingers on her companion, holding back on her affections for him in front of his brothers, knowing that he would be teased relentlessly. So, she turns to the two young toms again and gives them each a nudge with her paw. "Story time is over, boys. I'm pretty sure I overheard Berrytangle this morning telling you two that you're on tick duty. If you see any giant birds tomorrow I better be the first to know!" Pearlwave grins at them before she finally lifts to her paws, letting her tail-tip drag along Sheerwater's flank as she begins to pad away.
"So, Crescent Cove?" Foxstep had no regrets, not one. Sure, his first relationship didn't work out, but he got some lovely kits out of it that he will cherish forever. If he hadn't been with Berrytangle first, then he never would've fallen in love with Aloebreeze. She was a breath of fresh air to his cloudy skies, and the burly guard was at least aware of how much of a softie he became when his hunteress was around. With her by his side, it was easier to ignore the whispers of judgement from his clanmates.
"Woah there," the red and white tom gave an amused purr as he felt the brush of her nose against his fluffy chest. He can't help but chuckle, leaning down to quickly swipe his tongue over the tops of her ears, feeling the head radiating off of them. Foxstep all but melts as Aloebreeze leans on him, and he uses it as an excuse to continue licking the top of her head.
His scarred ear twitches at her question and he ponders for only a second. "Uneventful, mostly. The cleanup patrol came back just a few moments ago, and Turtleheart is with Mantaclaw by the entrance." He finishes his rundown of events that have happened to the blind molly, sounding rather matter-of-fact as he speaks. "Our shift is almost up, if you also, maybe, wanted to hang out too. Or, do you need to put that sandpiper away?" He eyes the bird with a disdain that would be lost on Aloebreeze, blaming it for being the reason why his beautiful mate would need to leave his side. "I'm sorry, but did you say a fish?" The guard exclaimed in disbelief, looking so betrayed for not being called outright cute by Koisong. He's got such a disheartened look on his face before it's completely wiped away from the shock of being overtaken. Sharkrunner is always reminded just how strong the collector really was at times, especially now as an audible gasp leaves him right when his back hits the soft dirt. The tom can't help but chuckle as he stares lovingly up at his mate, trying to wiggle out of her grasp so that he could press a paw to her chest while she nips his chin.
With Koisong so close, he does press his nose to the soft fur at her cheek, breathing in her scent and trying to drown himself in it. "I still feel like you're lying, but you're the expert here. If you say it's real, then I'm sure it is." After a moment, Sharkrunner tries to shimmy out from below her, trying to roll on to his side now. "Honestly, I'm a fool for now believing you in the first place."
