Pretty cool girl! I used to find her irritating because of her warrior code obsession but she improved massively for me in OOTS.

I can't stand her. I also personally disagree with the idea of her being leader I see many people want. Only because she was so strict to the code, and code breaking is unanimously needed for any warriors book/arc in SOME way shape or form. I could imagine her being incredibly stubborn and annoying imagining her push back against protagonists.
Edit: I majorly forgot OOTS-
I didn't care for her transformation there since she seemed to just show up out of the blue all "cool" now. It just felt so fake to me I suppose, especially since the development we didn't see happened off screen in a novella. I just don't like her.

i liked hollypaw the apprentice, she was unsure of a lot and i liked how fussy and uptight she was about the warrior code and separating right from wrong, as an apprentice, shes essentially still a child, which meant that i was more forgiving of her quirks and forceful nature but i guess i forgot that warriors isn't great at letting its characters and protagonist develop and mature as adjusted adults, they always seem to carry their childhood angst and never grow beyond what is initially established and turned over in their arc until we inevitably leave their pov, but I've never found that satisfying. squirrelflight is almost always intended to be read as belligerent and a rogue to following the rules, but once we leave her pov in favour of the three, she is suddenly more stern and level-headed, which i definitely wouldn't mind, but it's a shame that we never see her change inside of her pov. hollyleaf was super interesting to me as an apprentice, one significant stand-out moment about her that I'll always keep on my mind is when brook of the tribe of rushing water explains that the tribe separates prey-hunters and cave-guards, on top of the fact that the cats do not choose which one of these roles to opt for, it's decided ahead of time for them. hollypaw thinks about how different her life might've been if she'd followed a straight and narrow decided and controlled for her like a tribe cat, she regrets that she wasted her time in the medicine den for a time and feels embarrassed that she needed time to catch her footing and reflect and figure herself out a little longer, hollypaw thinks about how many mistakes she might have avoided if she had been told what path to take immediately, which is a scene that i personally feel akin to aswell as just generally liking it because its a really perspective and thoughtful moment in warrior cats. i want to add finally that i didnt like hollyleaf as a warrior because not only does her angst over the warrior code remain just as strongly and admittedly naively than it ever had, it's also considerably amplified, a lot of the scenes where hollyleaf frets about the warrior code after her warrior ceremony can honestly be read as her experiencing a panic attack and its worrying but also mildly annoying because i cant understand what lead her to make this jump all of a sudden, its frustrating and it's not the character i want to remember her asβΉοΈ
