an unabridged review of Leafpool’s Wish would potentially be hazardous for one’s mental health. it’s a contrived, supercilious, contemptuous mess of diarrhea that infuriated me to the point of loss of inhibition, and ability to form coherent and rationalized thoughts, and makes me lose control and curse and scream profanitys. It does absolutely nothing of value imho, the sheer degree of intelligence everyone is dumbed down to is mind-blowing, like you expect me to believe that no one realized that Leafpool was pregnant and that Squirrelflight wasn’t???????????????? Like the Tom’s not noticing I might be able to swallow, but even that’s stretching it, but the she-cats? Many which are experienced mothers and would immediately detect the pheromonal changes of an expecting mother??? I don’t think even a 10 year old would find that even having a decimal point of feasibility. And Squirrelflight waltzing back into camp with 3 kits while never showing signs of expecting(Heck Brambleclaw & Squirrelflight hadn’t even been together long enough for her to get pregnant, and go through a full gestation period and give birth at that point) and yet no one shows signs of suspicion or has a red flag pop up in their minds?????? Especially Brambleclaw?????? I know he can be a bit of a dunce at times, but not to that degree.
Anyway, Leafpool’s Wish is obviously one of my least favorite novellas.
The one amusing part about is the Timframe/season inconsistency( which is also evident in PoT as well) with the 3 being born during leaf-bare…… and also being apprenticed 6 moons later also during leaf-bare. Like did Leaf-bare last super long or was Greenlead extremely short that year??? pffft who knows.

One of my favorite novellas. I like the sisterly relationship between Squirrelflight and Leafpool and I love the Three as kits. So cute!

I kind of wish it didn't exist. I liked not knowing how exactly Leafpool's pregnanacy happened and the details revealed made Yellowfang look manipulative and it's implied Leafpool lets Yellowfang get away with lying to Squirrelflight to benefit her, which isn't in character for Leafpool. I always assumed it was Squirrelflight's impulsive choice and dedication to her sister that made her take in the kits rather than her intially being against it and only caving when her gods pushed her into it. It's a good book to write in theory, but I think leaving it up to fan interpretation would've been better. The name of the book is cute though!

This book began with many baffling canonical mistakes, the most blatant being that it took place during winter, even though it should have been summer. Leafpool asks Brackenfur if Firestar made the right choice making Brambleclaw deputy, even though she was the one who told the Clan she had an omen that Brambleclaw should be deputy.
Once Leafpool and Squirrelflight began their journey, however, the story got better. The novella did a good job portraying the intense sacrifice required of Squirrelflight, adding the interesting (although rather horrifying) detail that Yellowfang lied to Squirrelflight, telling her she could never have kits of her own. I definitely felt the emotional tug towards the end of the book as Leafpool gave up her kits and Squirrelflight prepared to lie to her Clanmates—something she would never have done if not motivated by her sister’s trouble and severe pressure from StarClan.

mediocre and not necessary
i will say, however, that part toward the end when Leafpool imagines staying behind so she can raise her kits, followed by her convincing the kits that Squilf is their mother, was really heartbreaking.

It was good. I didn't like the canonical mistakes but the overall theme was really good to read.

Some of the continuity mistakes in it were quite annoying to read about and the fact that no one in ThunderClan saw how obviously pregnant Leafpool was also seemed unlikely (not even the queens who know exactly what a cat expecting kits looks like). Then again, the plot depended on no one seeing the truth right in front of their eyes, so there's that. Other than this, I enjoyed Leafpool's interactions with her Clanmates (especially Brambleclaw and Brackenfur) as well as her and Squirrelflight going on their little "cover up" quest. StarClan being manipulative mousebrains at first made me sad but since their characterization has only increased in a not so favorable direction following the CrowLeaf situation I'm "fine" with it now.
