I thought it was a real bore. Not even Jake helped. I also didn't like Talltail's brutish personality, it was unpleasant to read about. Like ig they wanted to show that he matured, but he is so bloodthirsty, aggressive and rude compared to his TPB self that it's more jarring than anything else. And despite all the hype over TallJake, it felt very lackluster. Jake appears over halfway into the book. Talltail constantly thinks poorly of Jake, acting like he's a pest or a nuisance, then is suddenly sobbing for him to stay. Gave me whiplash.

Honestly I found it to be incredibly overhyped and dull. The overarching plot is nothing spectacular or worth writing home about. Now there are some pretty good character moments, and intriguing characters. Most notably Dawnstripe, Woollytail, Stagleap, Barkface amongst others, and being the first Windclan PoV giving us some juicy lore and worldbuilding for them does give it some bonus points.
Palebird was a fantastically unique standout being the only (confirmed) cat in the series to suffer from postpartum depression, which is frankly surprising given the number of stillbirths She-cats have had throughout the series, so was something that piqued my interest. Now I know a lot of people say Palebird was a bad mother to Tallpaw, and this may be an unpopular opinion, but honestly it F*****G infuriated the hell out of me how Tallpaw & Sandgorse treated Palebird, or more so how they, Sandgorse especially, trivialized and really didnβt seem to care or offer any consolation or comfort for what she was going through. Their both pretty damn insensitive.
And Iβve said this before elsewhere, and Iβll say it again, Their reactions, Sandgorseβs in particular is comparable to someone walking up to you and saying β Iβm having suicidal thoughtsβ. And the other person responding with β oh man thatβs awful. Take this aspirin and go take a nap, youβll feel better in the morningβ. Itβs sickening to me. Like heβs more concerned about his damn pride and whether or not his son will carry on his legacy as tunneler, without even considering if Tallpaw wants that, rather than giving his wife some moral support and compassion to help her with her grieving? And help her get better?, heβs a garbage father and mate, words canβt express my disdain for him.
Tallpaw/tail really isnβt much better, and I found his brutish and cantankerous personality pretty grating, and how he treats most people like a nuisance( when only Shrewclaw was legitimately one).
Had some redeemable, and touching moments. But not anything I plan on picking up again anytime soon given I read it last month.

Talltail's struggles are realistic, so I like that, but all in all, the book wasn't my favorite. A little boring and not many likeable characters.

I really liked it. Back when I read it, it was the first Warriors book I had read in a while so my perspective might be different from those who read consistently but there was a time where it was my favorite super edition. It has everything I like: worldbuilding, actually interesting character interaction and relationships, and an angry angsty protagonist who needs a walk. I love the moor runners and tunnelers and their struggles - I really with the other clans had some unique traditions like this. I find Heatherstar a super interesting leader and probably one of my favorite leaders just because she had to go through so much during her time. I like that Hawkheart's there for a bit, Dawnstripe, Barkface, and Shrewclaw are fun, Palebird's story is really interesting, and Jake balances Talltail's angst pretty well. Tallstar is a favorite of mine since reading it.

I struggled with it a bit, but that's mainly as I didn't click with Talltail for a lot of the book. Considering how much of the book is him (rightfully) feeling disconnected from his clan and bitter about the loss of the Tunneling tradition and his father part of me found it odd that he wanted to return to his clan after his journey. Sure he's less bitter after hearing that his father was trying to save someone but that doesn't erase that the rest of the clan he isn't connected with and they aren't super happy to see him come back at first anyway.
That being said, it has been a while since I read it so maybe it's handled better than I remember. It's certainly not the worst book in the series and is an enjoyable read. I just thought the plot was a bit constrained by the fact that Talltail had to be in a position to become leader no matter what for continuity.

It's certainly not the worst book out of the SEs (that spot belongs to Squirrelflight's Hope for me) but not the best either (Crookedstar's Promise and Bluestar's Prophecy are the top two to me). I still enjoyed aspects of Tallstar's Revenge a whole lot though.
Him growing up from an insecure kit/apprentice to a vengeful warrior who eventually learned to let go of his anger and become the wise WindClan leader we know from the original arc was a good contrast in my opinion since there are otherwise quite a few cats in this series who stay more or less the same from kithood to adulthood and even beyond that. So yeah, I actually liked his, until then, not established characterization from his younger years in there. TallJake could have been presented better since Tallstar did complain a whole lot about Jake before changing his mind about him rather abruptly but I still adore these two together and the idea of them being star crossed lovers makes it all bittersweet.

My favorite of all the SE, and the furthest I've ever read in a SE. Old WC was really interesting, and seeing how Talltail/star reacts to it is fun to read about.

This book is okay, it's not my favorite, but it's also not my least favorite. I think some things should have been different, like Tallstar and his dad weren't even close, and he's willing to throw away his whole life to go kill a guy? I know rage doesn't make you think clearly, but it just seems like it would have been more impactful if Tallstar and Sandgorse were actually close, and if Tallstar wanted to be a tunneler, like not only would he have lost his dad, but his dreams would have been shattered too, and I think that would have given him even more reason to want to go after Sparrow. Another thing I didn't really like, was the fact that we never find out who Ryestalk and Shrewclaw's kits were, like they hyped it all up, only to end it without telling us who the kits were? I know we know now, but it wasn't actually made canon until Redtail's Debt for Mudclaw and Winds of Change for Tornear. I also want to know what lead to Tallstar becoming deputy, the ending felt really rushed I think? It was still a good book overall though.
