Second favourite character and I love her. I do get why people don't like her though. She can be really annoying and selfish at times, but that, to me, just makes her seem more realistic, and I love realistic characters.

After 17 Years I’m suffering from severe Squirrelflight Burnout. Yes she’s a complex, well-written character, and consistently written as well. But she’s stagnant in the character development. she doesn’t learn from, or take accountability for her mistakes or misguided actions, she repeatedly takes the same course of action yet stares back in wonderment when it doesn’t yield different results. She’s a compassionate and fiery, feisty she-cat with loads of spark, but also very immature, unyielding, hotheaded and very much is still the same incorrigible apprentice she was back in TNP, and she’s what almost 11 years old now? She’s well passed adulthood yet still acts like a self-conceited cocky little teenager in many aspects of her life. And she also likes to play the victim to deflect blame off her self, to avoid having to take responsibility for her impulsive behavior, or ever have to reflect inwards and realize that she has plenty of unhealthy and toxic rough edges she should of smoothed out and polished up ages ago.
Honestly hope she either dies or retires before getting a chance to be leader. Because that’s not a reality I’d be able to read through.

I adore Squirrelflight! She is among my top twenty favorite characters. I'm still seeing a lot of myself in her when it comes to how she is presented personality-wise. But my hopes for her (and Bramblestar's) retirement from the story are strong these days.

Strong dislike up until TBC. That arc redeemed her quite a bit for me and these days I'd say I like her. Has she made some questionable decisions? Selfish? Annoying? Absolutely. But she believes everything she does is for the right reasons (even when it's not) and I can at the very least respect that aspect of her character.

I'd say I like her, she's an alright character. I don't really have many thoughts on her yet though, since I normally only read the main books and haven't finished midnight yet.

I don't really like her too much but I think she (and Dovewing AND Ivypool) get way too much hate. Like I really think they're all trying their best lol

I've always felt like fandom holds the way she acted in the early TNP books against her when she was still an apprentice, and in my opinion she shows a visible increase in maturity throughout just that arc. She's had to make a lot of hard decisions that involved choosing one individual she loved over another, and those tend to be choices where there really isn't a "right" one. I don't think she handled all of them fantastically (who's to say if the original three would have handled learning the truth about their parentage any better if they hadn't been literally backed against a wall), but I wish people would extend her the same grace that they do to other protagonists.

I love her, but I feel like her development has been pushed away for the sake of drama/spotlight for Bramblestar and/or Leafpool. The Erin's paint her as independent, but the situations she's put in to highlight are forced upon her and cast her in negative light. (Taking in Leafpool's kits, being deputy.) In fact, her independent trait has been taken away entirely since the last arc and her own SE. She fits the stereotype of a fiesty daughter of a ruler, but the Erins went in a direction with her that stumped her and ended up making her hated in favor of less interesting or interest-dwindling characters. I also think no one really wants to see her side of things because of the lie, instead it ends up as a segment of AITA on Reddit. When really, everyone was the asshole in that situation at most.

Among the best written characters in the series. Her relationship with Bramblestar is also the most interesting and complex one, even if sometimes is messed

I strongly dislike her. I just want her to be proven wrong in life like- just once. No matter whose perspective we're in she's just- always right? People often compare her and her father to show a fandom double standard, which I never understand because Firestar was proven wrong quite a few times in his life. But I just cannot think of a time where Squirrelflight is proven wrong without other cats beating her up over it? And I think that's where sympathy comes from for her, if she's ever wrong, everyone else is portrayed as worse as a way to sorta- gloss over her mistakes, which I understand. Which is more important: being wrong, or being shouted at berated for being wrong? I just want her to realistically be proven wrong so she just pauses for a moment and is like "Huh, I had this wrong" no yelling at her over it. Just let her realize it herself and let her grow from it. But no she's always been right and it's really frustrating to me.

I've always loved Squirrelflight. She was fun to read about when I was a kid and I found her to be inspirational as a female lead who was emotionally strong, empathetic to outsiders, liked having fun, and stood up for herself & others when she felt they were treated unfairly. She jumps to make decisions without thinking of the consequences and sometimes these decisions are controversial amongst the clans, which is an interesting character flaw to me.

I'm fond of her. I hope, like Tawnypelt, they eventually just let her retire and enjoy her grandkits and other kits around the clan.
