Okay so I'm curious. I know the Fandom is pretty divided on both of them but I'm wondering which people prefer more and why!
Personally I prefer Leafpool. This is because she admits and confesses to her mistakes more rather than stand her ground when it comes to situations she's aware she's wrong about. But she also stands up for what she believes in when the time is right. I also adore just how compassionate she can be. I've always tended to have a bias more toward the sweet and soft type than the fiery type. (Not to say Squlif isn't compassionate, she is!) And I also think in some ways I relate to younger Leafpool and her ideas of leaving behind life for what feels like a better life? Though I also think she made a good choice in going back because she knew it was the right thing to do. Plus overall I guess I also like her because there's WAY less controversy surrounding her, specifically in relationship drama, though she does have a bit.

Leafpool. I've always been loving her since day one. As an apprentice she's calm and just helps around the camp doing the best she can do. Once the Crowfeather drama happened I understand her feelings and I like how she goes back to her clan to save them. She also wanted what was best for her kits, she didn't want her mistake to buren them so with help from Starclan and Squrrielflight her kits can love a normal, happy warrior life until the truth got told. She punishes herself for what happened but while doing that she still helps her kits by giving them some advice.
Squrrielflight on the other hand sadly is different. She was an annoying apprentice always getting into arguments with Brambleclaw when they were going on a journey. She always think "my way is the right way" which gets me annoyed. Once the journey is over she still gets into fights over Brambleclaw just because she doesn't like him hanging out with Hawkfrost. Yes we know he's evil but Squrriel doesn't have proof yet which makes Bramble even more mad and assume stuff. Then Ashfur gets involved and gets heartbroken once Squrriel and Bramble make up and finally I like her in PoT. She was mature and not arguing 24/7 and was actually a good mother to the three. Then onto the newest series, were she loses all of that and becomes an annoying cat again and the spot light is all on her again because Ashfur is the new villian. So she's on my hate list sadly.

Leafpool is my favorite. There’s really no contest nowadays imo. Her friendships with both Cinderpelt and Sorreltail was really wholesome and memorable. I know some people called her a camera in TNP, but honestly I enjoyed her POV’s. She’s sweet and kindhearted, compassionate and humble, however, she can get stern when it’s required, and is by no means a pushover. And I really sympathized with her heartache of eventually breaking it off with Crowfeather, and part of me wanted to see her run away with him, but ultimately she made the right decision by ending their affair and returning to Thunderclan. And you really feel her anguish and disquietude from losing Cinderpelt, and how much she treasured her as both a mentor and friend, and how she admonishes herself for her death, and than to pile on top of her already insurmountable grief she’s forced to bequeath her kits to her sister, and distance herself from them and is obstructed from showering them with the love she earnestly wishes she could. And while both her and Squirrelflight definitely could/should of handled the situation with the 3 better, Leafpool’s resolute perseverance to correct her mistakes, and humility to accept punishment and learn from her past shortcomings and to grow along the way makes her such an endearing character and fantastic read about. And she could of been a less snappish with jaypaw as an apprentice, but I can let that slide.
I’m going to stop there otherwise I won’t be able to stop at all, plus it’s making me teary-eyed writing this.
Squirrelflight. Ohhhhh Squirrelflight, unfortunately the same can not be said about her character. from the beginning she’s a mischievous, energetic, defiant little spitfire, that could be really annoying back in TNP, though I still quite enjoyed this little ball of energy, and could mostly give her a pass on her behavior, because she’s just a teenager/young adult and would undoubtedly mellow out, become more humble and mature with age, right? Right??. Clearly not, because she’s just about as much of an incorrigible, intransigent wretch as an adult as she was as a teenager, and almost never reflects or seems to learn from past mistakes at all. And she’s still equally reckless and impulsive, obstinate and unyielding, and won’t ever admit when she’s wrong. Constantly gets in arguments for apparently nothing more than than necessity to be proven right, and to prove someone else wrong. Which is perfectly presented during Her and Brambleclaw’s argument over hawkfrost, which sure he ended up being evil, but at the time Squirrelflight had no evidence, and was just following some warning signs that Leafpool told her about, and that’s enough grounds to be irrefutably factual, and not even give your partner the light of day to listen, uhm hmm sure. And honestly she’s a pretty mediocre mother to the 3. She’s constantly scolding and admonishing them for getting into trouble, causing mischief(which she’s no stranger too) which usually is pretty harmless, and is even pointed out by other members of Thunderclan, albeit teasingly, that’s she’s being needlessly strict with them, over things she’s done countless times herself, like show some motherly compassion and support or sympathy maybe. Seriously, in PoT she only gives a actual compliment or praise like 2 times, when Jaypaw gives her Honey for her sore throat, and when they build a nest for her after the battle in Eclipse with all 4 clans, other than that she’s pretty callous. And her inability to admit fault after the secret is revealed, and her pleading with Lion, Jay and Holly to not tell the Brambleclaw and the rest of the clans, really showcases how selfish and concerned she is about her own reputation and doesn’t show any remorse for lying at all. I can sympathize a little bit with her pain and suffering afterwards, but not much because she essentially brought it on herself.
And she’s also quite the hypocrite, which is highlighted by her contrasting opinions and ideals in BrS and SqH. In Bramblestar’s Storm Squirrelflight gives him a plentiful of snide remarks, and admonishing words because he saves Jessy, Minty and Frankie and offers them shelter until the floods recede, constantly comparing him to her father, saying he’d put the safety and well-being of the clan first(because 3 disheveled kittypet’s is clearly a menacing threat) and even says Firestar wouldn’t have taken them in, and brings up concerns about what the other clans will think, which is a quite incredulous thing for her to say considering her ancestry, and since when does she care about what the other clans think???.
Than in Squirrelflight’s Hope she undermines, and goes behind Bramblestar’s back countless times to defend a group of Rogues, which have proven to be hostile and potentially pose a threat to the clans, and have maimed and permanently deafened one of Shadowclan’s Warriors. Than when Squirrelflight brings them to the camp to give medicine and aid to Sparrow(believe that’s the one?) for injuries sustained from a conflict the sisters instigated, when Bramblestar refuses to heal her, because he doesn’t want to provoke Tigerstar and stir up trouble, because Starclan wants the clans to be united and work together, Squirrelflight immediately gets indignant and blows off his worries and concerns like it’s hogwash(hypocrite much?) and says he shouldn’t care what the other clans think. Anyway, everyone knows the countless times Squirrelflight puts the safety of the sisters over her Clanmates and the other clans countless times throughout the whole book, and even stands back while what’s-her-name nearly rips her mates throat out because of her conflicted loyalties and fierce resolve to defend a group of cats she barely even knows.
Yet she was concerned and and has the audacity to get angered about Bramblestar sheltering 3 harmless kittypets, and gave him a hard time for it, talk about skewered priorities.
Note: what I find incredibly amusing is that in Squirrelflight’s Hope when Squirrelflight suggests skyclan moving to the territory outside ShC & TC border, it’s treated like it’s unexplored territory they haven’t stepped foot on yet, even though in Bramblestar’s Storm both Clans had hunted on it while their lower territory was flooded by the lake, inconsistency FTW.

I don't care for either.
There was a time I liked Squirrelflight but those day are long gone and I'm now just irritated by her presence.
Leafpool was alright during the new prophecy even if I found her a little boring but she became my my least favorite character only second to but the start of the omen of the stars and my distaste for her only grew. I didn't like her treatment of Crowfeather or his family in my opinion
I didn't like how she never told Crowfeather about the the three and I hated how she told Crowfeather she loved him in front of Breezepelt and Nightcloud. It left a bad taste in my mouth because I found her so selfish.

Squrrelflight imo. I've always found her more interesting, complex, releatable, and she's always been one of my favorite characters. I like Leafpool too, but not as much as her sister.

This is a pretty common poll
It usually ends up with them even or Squirrel slightly ahead
With that said, Leafpool is my fave (as anyone who has been around on this forum likely knows). I think she's a wonderful character. She's motherly, kind, patient, and still not afraid to stand up for what she believes is right (like when she told Bramble that she was treating Sunrise. I also enjoy CrowLeaf.
I do like both sisters though, and I like that it brings the complexities of adoption out - where Hollyleaf views both of them as her moms, as does Jayfeather, while Lionblaze very clearly sees BrambleSquirrel as his parents

I like leafpool because shes a weak character, she gives up easily and she stumbles and flails over hiccups madly. jayfeather(paw at the time) even gets mad at her and demands, "do you always give up so easily?" and hands down that was the moment i thought back and said to myself.. yeah, she does. and that isn't bad, rather it's crazy interesting, leafpool is a character that is more afraid of her instinct and her feelings associated outside of her being a medicine cat then she is about anything else. in short, leafpool is a little pathetic

Squirrelflight all the way <3. I think it's irritating how Leafpool acted while the people around her were arguably more affected by her actions. I don't hate her, but she has never been interesting to me and sometimes pretty annoying...
