Has anyone else noticed that everyone who has thunder clan blood in modern thunder clan is descended from at least two of the same five families Squirrelwhisker x eagleflight Harepounce x stagleap Robinwing x fuzzypelt The unnamed parents of sweetbriar and fallowsong The unnamed parents of flashnose and daisytoe
for some reason this really bugs me

Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone has noticed at this point. Considering the warrior code forbids mating with cats from other Clans (up to the end of ALitM anyway) and taking in outsiders is seen as a rare occurrence, this really shouldn't be all that surprising. It's not even just ThunderClan either, but all the Clans. Assuming no one in SkyClan mates with an outsider, they'll be going down this route too in just a few generations.

I mean they're cats, I don't think they care unless it's like immediate inner circle family, like parent/child and siblings. And on top of that, there's only so much you can do with individual clans that are forbidden to have inter-clan relationships with one another.

At this point, I just don't care anymore. As long as they're not siblings or parent and child, it's fine. I don't even mine cousins or uncle/aunt with niece or nephew, when it's not explicitly stated in the story that they are related.

why am I laughing at this?? Anyway, with the restrictive nature of the clans culture prohibiting taking mates outside of their clans, or rogues or other outsiders, it’s common knowledge the clans are now pretty much one big sloppy family of inbreds. And all the smooching and tail brushing with relatives has inevitably weakened the genetics of their social group, which can be humorously used to explain all the deaths from Greencough and other such illnesses off-screen and so forth. And can explain why so my characters are one-dimensional with no personality’s and prone to be irritable, because many are undoubtedly suffering from inbreeding depression, and other associated congenital and genetic disorders due to this dilemma. At least the one comforting prospect, though not very much, is that they haven’t ever paired up any siblings, since that is something real cats will do being as they are indiscriminate creatures, though prefer not taking mates within their direct bloodline.

This is a big reason I miss the "queens don't have to say who the dad is" rule of the first series.

Funnily enough, this kind of makes interesting parallels toward clan and royalty culture in real life. Because of all the restrictions and wanting to keep the pure blood of the particular family line, it led to a loooot of inbreeding, which of course meant more genetic defects were passed down among other things. Going to other Clans for mates creates a 'mixed-blood' scenario which they try to avoid, but mixed blood is almost certainly healthier for the offspring.
This would be solved for sure if the Clans just finally did away with the honestly archaic structure that they have. Tradition is important to them, of course, but the structure mostly causes conflict of interest in various areas, this being one of them.

They are all superrelated (which I’m not sure if that is a real word but I read it in an article to describe how black footed ferrets have the mean kinship of siblings and 1st cousins, so I thought it definitely fits for the clans lol).

I don't care by this point as long as they aren't directly related lol. I can't be bothered to get worked up by it anymore lol.

Personally, I don't think I could get past it like that. I can understand taking that approach with how screwed up the family tree is, but it gets to me too much to simply overlook. They should've kept the rule of not naming parents.

As long as they aren't super duper related, I don't even care at this point
They killed off some of the Smoky/Daisy kits before they could reproduce and Stormcloud is chilling...despite also being unrelated to others
Heck, even the Spiderleg x Daisy kits did not get to reproduce. The writers have something against kittypet/loner blood that isn't Firestar

Fo anyone who said as long as there not super related What about ivy x fern and spark x lark both of these couples are related on every side of there family (including through non clan blood) Ivy x Fern is very distantly related genetically. People think they're more closely related than they are because of the prophecy. They're like...very separated cousins Leafpool and Cloudtail are cousins Making Lionblaze Cloudtail's second cousin Making Fernsong Cloudtail's THIRD cousin And their relationship gets even more distant with Whitewing and Ivypool. In the US, Fernsong and Ivypool could get married without any hassle because they're not closely enough related

And for an isolated clan forbidden to have interclan relationships, that's kinda one of the best things you can get.

Trust me, everyone knows by now. There's not much that can be done about it at this point.
Except, if the new writing team decided to do an overhaul of the families. Which I highly doubt they'll do.

No matter who's side of the bloodline you look at it from, that's my point. Compared to much more closely related couples in the clan, like SquirrelBramble, SnowLily, etc, Fern x Ivy got the better end of the stick and the gene pool. And this is under the circumstances of the clans "no interclan relationship" rules. So I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to debate here ? My guess is that you misinterpreted what I said, so let me be more specific, when I say they don't even share 1% of dna, that is true. They share less than 1% of dna, specifically 0.78%, so yeah, not 1%.

It's funny because even if they lifted the interclan rule, give it a few generations and the clans will just still end up inbred either way. As long as they're not so fond of allowing outsiders to join often, the gene pools will always overlap eventually.

They're barely related. So barely related that it wouldn't have any effect on their children. That's what Maple and I are saying. No one is saying they aren't - just that it's insignificant.
