made a thread for this topic since it's been bothering me.
ever since the whole fading thing came into question, i've been comparing it to dia de los muertos. where u HAVE to remember family memebers or else they'll cease to exist because of you.
same with warriors now thanks to fading. they HAVE to find ways to keep memories of every cat alive or else they'll fade away thanks to them too.
but this makes me question how the heck history can be taught now. they can't talk about any of the bad guys who havent been double killed as ghosts. if they do, their spirits will continue to exist in the dark forest and will al ways be potential threats thanks to new developments in what the dark forest can accomplish and do to the physical realm.
they cant just NOT teach history. history is taught so the new gens dont repeat the mistake made in the past.
do they just need to find a way to double kill all dark forest cats now? like how else do they deal with this issue? do u think it'd be "cruel" to auto kill any cat spirit that ends up in the dark forest? like starclan monitors them, sees a cat who just die go to the dark forest, and they find a way to go down there and kill them before they have a chance to fester on their negativity and become a problem in the future for the living?
idk if any of this made sense, but this was just my thoughts i guess.

no youre making sense.
i think the hard part is that there's not really a given "rule" or clear parameters for the fading = nobody remembers you. because we have cats like mapleshade, maggottail, and gray wing who nobody really remembered by modern clan times, and yet they still exist in starclan.
also, wouldn't every starclan spirit continued to be remembered so long as they interact with medicine cats/leaders at the moonpool?

I never interpreted fading as a bad thing at all. StarClan isn't the final step spiritually, and there's good evidence that the Warriors universe has nested afterlives. Fading just means a particular cat loses contact with the living world entirely, which makes sense if no one remembers them; they have no reason to contact the living world. From there they either return to the living world (like Jay's Wing as Jayfeather) or go to whatever is post-StarClan.
