The solid gray tom was the kit that died from greencough right before Cloudtail was brought to the Clan. And when Frostfur asks Birchface to take care of Cloudtail she says "I know he won't replace your son you just lost."

I think if they had lived, they'd probably have just been Rainwhisker and Sootfur-type characters. The insignificant "other siblings" of more important characters that just sat in the background most of the time and would have been killed off sooner or later.

I do wish though we could have at least seen at least a hint of their personalities.
