Lionpaw stretched out his back before settling down to sit next to Hareleap. “You do look very warrior-like sitting here, fulfilling your duty.” His whiskers twitched in amusement. It was fun to see the tom he shared dens with a moon ago all serious-like and proud at his warrior duties. If Hareleap had no trouble becoming a warrior, he’d have nothing to worry about himself either. Not that he worried about it anyway. The two of them shared a similar sense of appreciation for relaxation and jokes, which wasn’t always sitting well with their peers. Sunpaw especially loved to lecture him - and Hareleap as well - about being more serious. He followed the tom’s gesture to the freshkill pile with his eyes and shrugged lightly. “Only a small squirrel but I hit it wrong and it screeched in alarm. The whole forest must’ve heard the little bugger because there was no prey left to be caught.” He rolled his amber gaze with a soft glimmer of annoyance at the loud creature. “Hopefully we’ll have more luck tomorrow.”

Hareleap hissed softly in sympathy, nodding his head. "Bad luck!" he said. "It'll be better tomorrow, no doubt, with newleaf on the way." He spoke confidently, but Hareleap was loathe to admit it was a confidence he didn't really feel. This leaf-bare hadn't spanned the entirety of his apprenticeship but it had certainly felt like it, with things as hard as they were. Even he, as upbeat and laughing as he tried to be, privately had doubts -- but they weren't doubts he'd ever let a clanmate see. They had enough worriers already. "The prey'll come back and start multiplying faster than we can catch them," he continued. "We'll be overrun with rabbits, just you watch. They'll practically be leaping into our mouths."

"They better be." Lionpaw gave an exaggerated sigh. Surely Lionpaw knew times had been hard this past leafbare but he knew it wasn't going to be like this forever. No reason to dwell on it. Prey would come back, he was sure of it. He wouldn't mind having a juicy rabbit right now though. His stomach had been half empty for a while now. "It'll make a lot of clanmates less crabby when their bellies are filled." He chuckled, there were a few cats that came to mind.

Hareleap laughed aloud. "The day Sunpaw gets less crabby, I'll eat my own tail!" he said. "Now that would be a sight to see." Remembering the calico she-cat, Hareleap sent a swift, paranoid glance at the camp's entrance, like the mere mention of her name could summon her. When a moment passed and Sunpaw didn't emerge, cross that he was joking about her, he relaxed. "I was actually talking to her earlier," he continued conversationally, like his moment of paranoia hadn't happened, "about how you'll probably be made warriors soon -- Bramblepaw too. Won't that be great? We'll all be in the same den again, and everything."

-- DawnmistRedstar watched Spottedtail leave, and turned his attention to Shadowheart. His ears pinned back for a moment, clearly the tom was upset. He released a sigh, and nodded, though he still felt steadfast in his beliefs. If they left to speak to Starclan now, then the clan would surely know that something was wrong. "Shadowheart." He greeted, wrapping his fox-like tail around his body. He was worried, as any leader would be. He loved his clan and wanted only the best for them after all. "Where is Finchpaw?" He asked, not scenting the apprentice nearby. He felt a knot in his chest- could he trust the young tom to keep quiet about what happened? -- kittyking2Sunpaw rolled her eyes, "I'll have you know that I have caught plenty." She told the cat, turning up her nose, "anyways, you shouldn't wander away from camp like that. Especially without a warrior." She scolded, used to having to do so to Hareleap and Lionpaw all of the time. She flicked her tail, "I'll protect you while we are here, but you have to be as quiet as a mouse. I promised Hareleap a good piece of prey, but if I bring him a scrawny mouse, he won't let me hear the end of it for moons." She told the younger cat, motioning with her tail for him to follow as she began walking again, keeping an eye out for any signs of prey. -- JademistDarkcloud purred, happy she was able to catch something, "I only caught a tiny hare." He told her, taking the chance to look around, trying to see if he could catch the scent of any predators. He couldn't smell anything, and he trusted that Spottedtail was right. After all, it wasn't uncommon for other animals to be spotted in the tundra- but leaving some remains of a hare was odd after the leaf-bare they had. "Let's head back towards camp, maybe we will have better luck up there." He told her; after all, Spottedleaf and Finchpaw racing around probably scared any prey, and it was better to be safe than sorry.

Finchpaw snorted, but kept silent, hoping not to scare off any more prey. He caught the scent of a vole, not that far off, on the wind. "Sunpaw, there's a vole over that way" he said, jerking his head to the left.

Lionpaw laughed with Hareleap. "At least you won't need anything from the pile then. I doubt Sunpaw's going to lighten up soon though." He loved both of his sisters dearly but the two of them really needed to relax sometimes. He hoped they'd get more loose when they became warriors but he wasn't counting on it. "Oh that would be great! I can't wait. But I'm not sure whether the warriors can handle the chaos of all of us together in the warriors den." A grin lingered on his face. He just knew Frogwhisker would hate it but that made everything 10 times funnier to him.
-----
Bramblepaw nodded at her mentor, picking up the small piece of prey from the ground. She quickly burried it under a small but thick bush. Padding back over to Darkcloud she glanced around, wondering what had happened to the rest of their patrol. "Shouldn't we wait for Spottedtail?" She glanced questioningly at the deputy.

--- kittyking2Sunpaw gave a flick of her tail to say her thanks, placing her attention on where Finchpaw had directed her. There she could see a vole, small, but not the scrawniest she had seen today. It would make for a fine piece in the fresh kill pile. Keeping her steps light, she stalked forward, being careful to avoid any movements that may scare off the rodent. After a few steps, she felt ready to pounce. Quickly, she jumped forward and stunned the prey with a swipe of her paw before finishing it. She turned to Finchpaw with the vole in her mouth, her head held high, "nice one." She purred thankfully. --- JademistDarkcloud shook his head, "no, she went ahead to the camp." He told her, starting to walk towards their next destination. After a bit of time to think, he decided that it was best to tell the she-cat. She was nearly a warrior at this point and if she wanted to return to camp, he would leave that decision up to her. "Finchpaw and her discovered evidence of a fox that passed through. The scent was old so it likely moved on already. If you would like, we can just return to camp." He told her, sitting down as he spoke. "I just ask that you don't say anything to anyone, even your littermates, the clan is still scared because of the fisher attack. I feel that you should have the right to decide if you feel uncomfortable with hunting now, especially after yesterday. You're nearly a warrior, you are old enough to make these choices."

Shadowheart shook his head a bit, Redstar was trying to avoid the situation. “I told him to go play so I can talk to you, come into the den.” He mewed, trying not to sound like he was making an order but he was. He padded into his den and and sat down, waiting for his leader to come into the den. He was worried that he would yet again deny his request to go to the Whispering Red Wood, but he would pester him until he agreed.

Bramblepaw silently walked next to her mentor, deciding not to ask further questions as to why Spottedtail left so suddenly. When Darkcloud elaborated after a short time her ears perked up in surprise. “Oh.” She meowed simply, taking a moment to process what had been said while she sat down in front of the tom. A fox roaming around the territory was bad news.. and she wasn’t very keen on becoming fox food. However, Darkcloud was right; she will be a warrior soon. It was about time she acted that way too. “Thank you for telling me. I think we should try to find more prey. The freshkill pile was quite low when we left this morning and I don’t feel satisfied walking into camp with only a scrawny vole to show for it.” The apprentice glanced over at her mentor, hoping he’d be okay with her plan. “I won’t tell anyone about the fox, I promise.”

"So my tail is safe, at least." Hareleap stood from his sitting position, giving a slow, luxurious stretch, paws spread in front of him. "I guess the other warriors will just have to get used to it, won't they? Although--" He briefly rolled his eyes. "I hate to admit it, but Sunpaw might have a point about needing to be taken seriously as warriors. So that probably means no hitting each other with moss balls in the middle of the night or trying to see who can bite Sunpaw's tail without her waking up."

Redstar sighed and followed the cat into the den, sitting down when they were inside. “Tell me what happened.” He told the cat, deciding it would be best to not comment on the tom’s obvious boldness. He knew that Shadowheart was just as worried about the clan as he was; but he felt that the medicine cat lack the ability to look at the bigger picture. He watched the cat carefully, his tail wrapped fighting across his paws as he waited for the tom to speak.
—
Darkcloud nodded and gave the younger cat a gentle smile, proud that she had made her choice in such a mature manner. Though he would never say it out loud, part of him was glad that he didn’t not have to return to the camp. He didn’t want to have to face Redstar again, especially if the dead hare really was a sign from Starclan. After all, he doubted that the red tom would even bother to listen. His paw pads itched with irritation at the thought, he didn’t know why Redstar was being so stubborn. Normally he would be eager to help the clan in anyway he could. Part of Darkcloud wondered if Redstar was worried that his leadership skills would be put into question, even though the lack of prey and fisher attack were completely out of his control. “Very well, we can go by the river then, hopefully we can find more prey there.” He told her, standing up and walking in that direction. He turned his head back to look at Bramblepaw, wanting to make sure she didn’t seem too nervous. “Make sure that you don’t fall in.”

Shadowheart sat down facing Redstar and let out a small sigh. He didn’t want to argue with the tom, but he had to make Redstar agree with him. “Finchpaw got frustrated with me and wanted a break, I let him take one and he ran into his mother. Then they both found the dead hare.” Shadowheart paused for a moment, rethinking what he wanted to say and how to say it. “I think it’s important that we remember that our ancestors are there for us for a reason. StarClan is there to guide us, who are we to ignore their signs when they are simply there for that purpose?” He asked the tom calmly, giving him a serious but solemn gaze.

"For now, yes." Lionpaw grinned and lowered onto his four paws, sitting more comfortably. He laughed thinking back at the things Hareleap mentioned; surely throwing mossballs around was a big no in the warriors den. They'd probably kick them out, was that even an option? They'd be the first ones ever to find out. "Aww, what a boring life though. Maybe you should go back to being an apprentice with me but then you'd have to face the wrath of Sunpaw again too." Sunpaw was often a good sport about the tireless joking, Lionpaw appreciated that about her.
-----
Bramblepaw followed after Darkcloud, glad that she seemed to have made the right decision. For some reason her mentor was noticably absent these past days. She wasn't sure how to handle that, normally she'd keep silent and she didn't want to poke her nose into his personal matters. Though, she did care for the tom. He'd been a good mentor to her and she hoped his troubles weren't too much to bear. But of course a deputy had more responsibilities and with that more worries. She walked next to Darkcloud, shooting him a quick glance before starting to talk. "So, um, is everything okay? I don't mean to pry into things not meant for my ears but.." She trailed off, not sure what to add.

--- DawnmistRedstar sighed, "why would this one be a sign from Starclan? We had that....thing say it had a message from Starclan then the next day, a dead hare? Could it not be that creature playing tricks? It doesn't make sense why Starclan would chose to give us signs in such an odd way." He told the tom, then he hunched his shoulders. "If we go now, the whole clan will assume that there is something wrong. Leaf-bare was hard on us this years, so many died from starvation and the cold, then the first signs of of new leaf bring a fisher with them." The tom straightened his back and gave Shadowheart a determined look. "My job is to protect my clan, and sometimes to do that, you must betray their trust." He stood, "if Starclan truly wanted us to know something, then they would make the signs more clear." He added, turning away. His stomach felt like a pit. Why was he being punished, why wouldn't Starclan just leave him and his clan alone. He never asked for this, any of it. He realized that he had allowed his fear to creep onto his face. He took a deep breath and forced his usual expression, hoping Shadowheart hadn't noticed. "I'm trusting you to keep this between us." He said quietly, glancing back to the cat. -- kittyking2 (Repost so you aren't searching) Sunpaw gave a flick of her tail to say her thanks, placing her attention on where Finchpaw had directed her. Those are good traits that many warriors lack." He told her, not bothered by her question, it was his fault for not hiding it better. "As the Taigaclan deputy, it's my job to help guide the clan, but sometimes, it can be rather difficult. These are troubling times for all of us, so I get bothered when it seems like all we can do is just wait for things to get better." He explained to her, looking at the direction towards the river. "We will make it through, we always do." He added, hoping that he hadn't made the she-cat nervous. New leaf had just begun, there was much to wait for. The waters will thaw, the forest will come alive with life, everything will return to how it should. Though he still worried about what the lynx had said. He worried that, whether it was because of fear, pride or denial, that Redstar would continue to ignore the threat. He just hoped that Shadowheart would be able to convince their leader that they needed to do something...anything.

Shadowheart stood up as Redstar began to leave, not understanding a word coming out his mouth. He put his ears back and took a step after the tom, “you know that signs and omens from StarClan are vague. You should think about the real reason your avoiding these signs,” he mewed before turning around towards the medicine cabinet. His ears still back, hoping the tom would keep leaving as he was. This was going to get bad, but maybe it has to for Redstar to understand.

Bramblepaw's ears grew hot at her mentor's compliments. She was never sure what to do when she received a compliment but she did really appreciate it. Listening to what he was saying she nodded understandingly. "I'm sure we'll make it." She meowed, more so to convince herself. Of course the current situation worried her but it gave her a little relief to know the fisher was dead. And the fox.. well, that would be sorted in time too. It didn't have to mean anything. "But it isn't always easy, especially when you have to take in all the clan's troubles like you. So, I guess what I meant to say is uh, if I can ever help you with something. You can always ask." She cast the tom a small smile but she quickly averted her gaze back to the forestfloor. Why did she always have to be so awkward? She cringed inwardly at herself.

-- DawnmistRedstar paused when the medicine cat spoke, turning his head to speak as he faced the entrance, "my clan." he said boldly, fully confident in his reasoning. He needed to guide his clan and that was what he was doing. If Starclan truly wanted to guide them, then he felt the way they were doing so was...foolish. Sending a predator in their stead after the famine his clan faced was almost a mockery. The red tom exited the den without another word, placing a happy, relaxed expression on his face as he looked out to his clan. -- kittyking2 (Heads up, Sunpaw is a goody goody so she won't be sneaky and would probably scold Finchpaw if he tells her) Sunpaw shushed the cat quickly, giving him a slightly annoyed look as she held the bird in her jaws, she wandered to a black berry bush and buried it to hide it. She glanced around again for more prey, catching the scent of a vole, she looked to Finchpaw and flicked her tail, signaling for him to be completely quiet as she focused on the trail, however, it led to a deep burrow that she had no hope of flushing the prey out of- trying would just alert everything else. She looked to the medicine apprentice, fully aware that there was no prey nearby, "hunting isn't time for gossiping." She scolded, her voice extremely quiet, her ears flicking as she tried to pin point the sounds of prey, and her mentor. -- JademistDarkcloud laughed slightly and smiled, "I'll keep that in mind." He told her, stopping at the waters edge, the water was now flowing, large pieces of ice remained though, some pieces drifting with the current. The black tom looked to his apprentice, "right now, the most important thing for you to do if try your best. I know it seems silly, but your contributions to the clan matter- no matter how small they seem. A single mouse could change the outcome for one of your clanmates." He told her, now glancing around. This area did seem a bit richer with life, hopefully there would find some prey here. "Anyways, let's hunt- I trust Shadowheart and Redstar to handle this situation."

Finchpaw opened his mouth to say something, but then remembered Sunpaw would probably scratch his face off for saying anything. He smelled a mouse somewhere in a bush, without asking Sunpaw, he leaped after it killing it and trotting back to Sunpaw. "Just cus' I'm a medicine apprentice, doesn't mean I can't hunt" he said.

(I’m sorry, I thought I replied ;-; Also could I take over Snowfoot? Since she’s Fallingsky’s mate and they have kits. )
Shadowheart shrugged at Redstar left, something will push the red tom to listen to him. He didn’t know what, but he’d do his best to find out. Once he felt like Redstar was far enough he exited the den himself, making his way over to his sister, Quietstream. “How are you?” He mewed, wanting to hear some other cats problems besides his own.
Quietstream was laying in the small bit of sunshine shining through the clouds when Shadowfoot approached her, “good, I went on morning hunting patrol. That went well, what about you?” She asked him while keeping her eyes closed.
——
Fallingsky trotted over to Sunpaw with a few pieces of prey hanging from his jaws, he set them down and looked to her, “how’s your hunt going?”

( That should be fine. I'll edit it later!)
Sunpaw opened her mouth to response, his tail swishing back and forth with irritation when Fallingsky emerged from the bushes, causing her to jump again. She was still on edge, the thought of a fisher coming out of nowhere and attacking her was always on her mind. She looked to her mentor with wide eyes, her ears pinned back. She gave Finchpaw a glance, which turned to a slight glare. Fallingsky had to come when she was being shown up by a younger apprentice, one that wasn't even trained to hunt. She snorted, maybe Starclan was being kind to the younger cat, that was the only thing she could think of. She had been positive that there was no prey nearby after all, yet he caught that mouse with ease. She looked back to Fallingsky, "I'll go gather my prey to show you." She said, a bit disheartened, hopefully he wasn't disappointed. She felt a sharp prick of anxiety at the thought. She walked past her mentor towards the prey she had hid, gathering it all as quickly as she could. She had hunted a decent amount, not great, but better than it had been the past few moons. She returned with the pieces in her mouth, taking a moment to set down the bird Finchpaw had spotted in front of the medicine cat apprentice. She wasn't intent on lying to her mentor, "he spotted that, not me." She admitted though the prey in her mouth, walking back to Fallingsky, she was sure her mentor had seen what had happened, hopefully this had not been a formal assessment. Oh Starclan what if it had been?

Bramblepaw's eyes followed the chunks of ice floating in the water as they stopped at the edge. The water looked as imposant as ever in the cold, especially with ice on it. But the fact that there were parts of the ice floating away gave her some hope that the weather would get warmer soon and with that more prey would hopefully return. Her ears flicked as she listened to Darkcloud, of course her mentor was right. They had to make do with whatever they could to feed the clan. She nodded, trusting Darkcloud's words. It wasn't like she could change anything about it anyway but that didn't stop her from worrying though. She glanced around the area, her nose lifted to catch any scents.
