I'm currently bored and stuck at home so anyone want to chat about the new book, it's all I've been able to think about as of late.

I'm down for it. Random thing to start off with, I loved how Bristlefrost was described as defending the DF cats like a mother protecting kits. It stands out as so empathetic and kind when compared to the snobbery from the Starclan cats. And it's not just talk either, a thing I didn't notice on my first read-through is that she actually saves Maggottail from falling into the dark water and tries to save Redwillow too. It's only after that that Maggottail goes out of his way to save her, and you really get the feeling that despite their cold exterior, they were genuinely impressed with Bristlefrost.

That's a really good perspective on her squad that I didn't think about. I really liked the 3 DF cats Bristlefrost teams up with, and I like how she uses their selfishness to somewhat unite them. Honesty if Bristlefrost had lived, give her an apprentice and a couple of moons and she could be an amazing deputy. I really liked how they showcased more of the early Bristlefrost, with her being more daring and brave yet still having a kind heart. This book really gave the best perspective on Bristlefrost and made me love her as a character again. + I almost cried out laughing when she finally free's berrynose from ashfur's grasp.

I agree, her leadership with the three DF cats and learning that she needs to play to their interests really gave me vibes she could have been a great deputy. Also yes, chokeslamming Berrynose was great for her as well. Another thing with regards to Bristlefrost's character, the fallen tree plan. That was genuinely smart of her and it's been a while since we've seen a scheme like that.

Also yes, chokeslamming Berrynose was great for her as well. Another thing with regards to Bristlefrost's character, the fallen tree plan. That was genuinely smart of her and it's been a while since we've seen a scheme like that. Yeah, I think it also showcased her bravery quite well also. It reminded me of the time she saved Rootpaw as an apprentice. I just really liked how she was a more important role as well, it really sold her death scene. And I feel that Bristlefrost was a good choice to take down ashfur, as he was the one who manipulated her into the destruction of her own clan. Why Bristlefrost was the best choice: 1. Bramblestar dying wouldn't have made sense as the entire arc was focused on the efforts to bring him back. 2. Squirrelflight shouldn't have to sacrifice herself for ashfur, plus I don't want either of these cats to get more spotlight than they already do. 3. Shadowsight has already survived being almost killed in VoS, and plus It would feel wrong for him to die with ashfur. Him finally starting to break away from ashfur's grip was a much better ending for him. 4. Rootspring still has a lot going for him, plus the scene where he is able to read bristlefrost last thoughts was sweet and wouldn't have worked if bristlefrost was the one mourning for him. 5. Firestar does not need to double die or take away the spotlight. I am really sad that she died, but I think they handled it as well as they could.

Bristlefrost's death was foreshadowed several times though out the arc. The first time was in Lost Stars, when she rescued Rootpaw from the lake after he had fallen in. The second time was in The Place of No Stars, when she jumpped into the Moonpool just after Rootspring had been dragged in by Willowshine. And the third time was in A Light in the Mist, with her death this time.

I think in ALITM her death was also foreshadowed with how often Rootspring told her to be careful of the dark water and how scared she was of letting it touch her. In the end she wasn’t scared of it anymore. It started with her saving Rootspring from drowning and ended with Bristlefrost drowning. And she nearly drowned multiple times in the arc (next arc im searching for these kinds of hints)
I also kinda hoped that at least her spirit survived (i wanted her to become something like a leader in the DF because she obviously had the influence and the quality. Would have been funny, just because it would mean that Ivypool‘s daughter would have been the leader of the place she fears and hates the most)
Poor Ivypool Poor Thriftear Poor Flipclaw Poor Fernsong Poor Shadowsight Poor Rootspring
Rest in peace my goddess

It was shocking to me. I was expecting Squirrelflight or Bramblestar or even Hollyleaf to kill him for good.

I read the Warriors series with my grandmother and she just got through ALITM and she was distraught that they killed off Bristlefrost. Straight up said "I have no idea what is up with these authors to destroy the one happy thing in this book".

Especially the ending when Rootspring reads Bristlefrost thoughts.
