You can pet the brown/purple part, although you need to be careful of the lightning bolt.
(Or you can just never evolve it. The baby will zap you a little, but not too much...)

The last couple of days have been a lot over here too.
Though on a bright note, I'm ... apparently getting feedback from many, many peer reviewers that my work is good enough to publish. I ... might actually start trying to do that. At least the edited stuff.
