I just finished re-reading both of the newest colored Graphic Novels A Shadow in RiverClan and Winds of Change for the probably tenth time and only had this thought now.
During WoC, Hawkfrost is seen to encourage Mudclaw's already not so great opinion about Firestar further by convincing him and cats from different Clans except for ThunderClan ones that Firestar is trying to take over WindClan and using Onewhisker as his pawn to achieve that goal by having lied about Tallstar appointing Onewhisker as the new deputy and thus leader of WindClan before he died, which was an event soely witnessed by Firestar, Brambleclaw and Onewhisker, thus making it conveniently easy for Hawkfrost to imply it was a complete lie, something that Mudclaw already suspected to be true but was then very sure of himself.
My point or rather question is if Hawkfrost truly believed all of those things as well or was simply aware of Mudclaw's anger over being replaced as deputy and while also having suspicions that something fishy might have been going on regarding Tallstar's final decision before dying. Which was obviouly not the case but also didn't need to be in order for Mudclaw to delude himself into thinking it to be what had happened instead of the truth. So perhaps Hawkfrost was really just using that to his own advantage without sharing this opinion in the slightest and just viewing Firestar as a weak leader not worthy of being in a position of power due to his former kittypet status like his father Tigerstar did even after dying and becoming a vengeful Dark Forest spirit.
Speaking of Tigerstar, similarly to this, he also let others think Firestar was up to no good on various occasions like during Tigerstar and Sasha where he portrays him to be a danger to the current peace in the forest towards Sasha as well as his own Novella Tigerclaw's Fury in which he makes the majority of ShadowClan believe that Firestar (Fireheart back then) killed Whitethroat.
Another example happens during Leopardstar's Honor where he says this to Leopardstar:
Then again, both Tigerstar and Hawkfrost are very cliche villains with not much room for interpretation in their canon roles so they both probably believed what they told everyone else in regards to Firestar themselves as is so often the case with villains or antagonists thinking they are the ones in the right while being paranoid about the intentions of their rivals who are usually the heroes of that story. Or perhaps it was both, Hawkfrost was using Mudclaw's bad opinion on Firestar against him and played into it while also believing it to be true himself. So, did I just potentially answer my own question? Probably. Oh well.

"We can't let cats like Fireheart and Graystripe call the shots. We must keep some pride, surely? It's humiliating to see the Clans being used by a kittypet. We are supposed to be warriors. We could be great. We could make the Clans so strong that no warrior ever goes hungry again. We can rise above petty battles, above borders, above prey. You can see that, can't you? You can see a day when there's enough prey for everyone. When the river and the moor and the forest provide enough for every cat, and no cat has to lift a claw against another. But that can't happen so long as Fireheart and Graystripe are using us. Our weakness is their strength, and they'll take advantage of it until we have enough pride to take back control. To bring true glory to the Clans—to make them what they were always meant to be."
